My mom and I have been thinking about getting a dog. We already have a couple of breeds picked out, like a Dachshund or a Shetland Sheepdog. My mom likes bulldogs.
We need a dog who can easily fit under an airplane seat. We were thinking of using this carrier: Carrier.
I was just wondering if anyone has any other breed suggestions. Also, if anyone has had any experience with Shetlands, Dachshunds or bulldogs, or what other dogs you may suggest, please post some info on their temperament and such.
We will not be getting a new pet for the next two months, though, so we have a lot of time to think about it and decide.
Thanks!

I would suggest going to an animal shelter. Millions of animals are killed every year because there are no homes for them.

I would do some serious research on the breed first. I actually recommend saving a dogs life by going to a rescue or a shelter. As far as animal care goes be sure you are up to it. Having a dog should be like having a kid. If you can't make that commitment then get a goldfish. As for the three breeds you picked out I would probably go with a wire-haired or short haired mini dachsund. They may have a hard time with potty training but they are healthy dogs and their upkeep is minimal. The only main issue might be their backs. Bulldogs are great, I love them but not their skin problems and breathing issues. Shetlands are great too but you need to learn about maintaining a healthy coat first. Don't be the kind of owner who never looks at their dog to realize the mats on its butt are preventing poop from falling and instead getting caught in the coat and causing infection. You would not believe how many people do that.
