"Daddy! Daddy look! Look!" Vega shouted, angrily waving two ribbons about. He was tired of the silly man ignoring him for strange women, he was much more interesting. Stephan was busy at one of the picnic tables, talking to a girl around college age. Vega groaned, tossing his scarf back over his shoulder. The arts festival was plenty pretty, but it was annoying to have everyone ignoring him. He flailed his ribbons about, making a pastel whirlwind about the grass.

An escape. A day without Ivan was a day of relaxation. A much needed day. Today was Ivan's turn to take care of Grand Mama, so Evie basked in her own amusement for her twin brother. It was his turn to get the constant nagging. It was his turn to be the failure. Ha. Ivan was a failure everyday. A failure and a house destroyer, but that was beside the point. Today was the day to do something fun.
An arts festival sounded fun, right? Sure. Evie thought it sounded a lot of fun. Festivals were generally fun, and art was nice. It just depended on Elisa's reception. The toddler was generally very finicky when it came to certain things, but she was lady and in public. Evie just had to constantly remind the girl that. Those types of comments usually got the girl to settle down and act proper. Ladies never cause a scene.
Elisa was actually quite enamored with several aspects of festival. It was pretty and colorful, two major pluses in the girl's book. She loved pretty things. She was even more enamored with a small child sitting in the grasses twirling pretty ribbons around.
Pretty.
Since she was pretty too, she should introduce herself to a fellow pretty.
"We go." Elisa chimed softly, pointing in the direction of the boy and his guardian. Before Evie could actually respond, Elisa skipped her way over, her long red curls swaying in the wind.

"Daddy!" Vega shrieked one last time, stomping his feet in frustration. His father simply waved him off, adding an annoyed, "Go play." Sighing he tugged off his shoes and socks and set them down next to a tree, tying the ribbons to his wrists. Maybe he'd get more attention if he was jumping. He tried again, this time doing a strange leaps similar to graceless ballet.

Sighing, Evie watched Elisa skip over to whatever caught her eye and followed closely behind. Well...as close as she could get. Elisa was pretty fast, at least faster than Evie. Despite being rather slender, Evie was not really in shape, so when Elisa decided to skip, run, or whatever else Evie sometimes had a hard time keeping up.
And Elisa was going a little faster than usual. Pretties excited her, you know.
Coming upon Vega's graceful and beautiful, or at least Elisa thought they were pretty, leaps, Elisa stopped a few feet away from the other toddler. Grinning, she curtsied and did a little twirl of her own.
"Elisa," she started by introducing herself, "Pretty. You. Pretty."

Vega paused, peering at the other girl while his mental gears clicked into understanding. When they did he leapt up into the air with a scream, nearing tackling her. "You real pretty," he told her, confirming what she already seemed to know. "I'm Vega," he announced, then squeezed her tight around the shoulders before backing off, "Play?"

Vega, huh? That was an acceptable name for a fellow Pretty. At least it wasn't Ivan. Now, Ivan was an icky name, especially since it was Icky's name, but that was beside the point. Ickies and Prettys don't associate with each other, so just thinking about it made Elisa's mind...well...icky.
Elisa was a little taken back by Vega sudden gesture but accepted it since this Vega was pretty. Yes...Very pretty. He seemed fun too, and he liked playing like Elisa. This Vega also knew that Elisa was pretty.
Excellent.
Snapping out of her though process, Elisa gleefully nodded her head in agreement at Vega's question. "Yes. Yes. We play. Elisa loves playing!"

Vega nodded cheerfully, untying one of his sets of ribbons. He held the bundle out to Elisa, asking in his own little timbre, "Dance?" Smiling, he pointed over to the table, where his father sat beside a black tote bag, "Dolls?"

Bringing her hands together with a loud clap, Elisa grinned from ear to ear. Who was this Vega, and how come she waited until now to meet him? Ribbons, dancing, and dolls? No one ever wanted to play dolls with her. Not until him. This Vega was just pure love!
Love. Love. Love~!
Suddenly realization set in. Maybe he would want to play tea party with her too! Elisa always made Ivan play, but he was no fun. This Vega could be tons of fun!
"Yes. Yes. Dolls. Tea party?" Elisa replied adding in her own hopes. If he played tea party, this Vega was going to be her new best friend.

Vega nearly screamed, quickly sprinting toward the picnic table. He extracted his sippy cup from the bag and then frowned. There was only one. Thinking quickly he pulled himself up onto the seat and grabbed the cup from in front of his father, ignoring the shouts as he ran back to Elisa with it. "Got cups," he chirped, sniffing daddy's. The orangey stuff it contained smelled icky, so with a scowl he dumped it out on the ground. Stephan had followed the child to retrieve his beer, but seeing it was already gone, simply sank his shoulders and went back to the girl whose number he had just about gotten. "Which you want?" Vega asked, holding both cups out to her. One was a pretty Barbie sippy cup, the other a plain clear plastic.

Okay. This just proved it. This Vega was now Elisa's best friend, and Elisa could barely contain her excitement. Not only did he want to play tea party as well, but he got the cups and showed the same amount of enthusiasm she had for tea parties. This Vega was no longer "this Vega", but rather he was now just Vega and will be referred to as Vega from now on.
Beaming, Elisa bounced a little while she placed her dainty index finger to her lips. Which cup indeed? The Barbie one was certainly pretty, but would she want to leave her new best friend with the icky clear plastic one.
Decisions. Decisions...
This called for...
"Eeny... meeny...miny...moe…" Elisa started and finally landed on the plastic cup. Oh well. Vega was worthy of the pretty pink Barbie cup.

"We gotta find tea," Vega told her once the all important decision had been made, "Or else it's gotta be 'maginary." He wiped the sippy cup off with the inside of his shirt, not wanting any Daddy cooties that happened to be in it. He seemed to be looking around for something, though he wasn't sure what. The only things he could see on the surrounding tables were cups of the nasty smelling stuff Daddy had had, and he was mostly sure that someone pretty wouldn't want that junk. "Whatchoo think?" he asked, showing a rare moment of respect for what someone else wanted.

All this decision making was seriously making her head hurt. Elisa didn't remember the last time she thought this much. Maybe never...Regardless, she didn't like all this thinking. Someone else should do the thinking for her. That made more sense in her mind. Why should she do the thinking when there were others to do it for her? But thinking with Vega wasn't too bad. She'd think for her new best friend.
A tea party is never fun when there isn’t any tea to drink, so imaginary tea was out of the question. "Elisa look for tea? Where look?"

"We can ask Daddy," He decided, not wanting to make her look all by her self. Waving a hand to ask her to follow he sprinted toward the scruffy man, screaming as he went. "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Da-Dee!" He shouted, recieving only a groan in answer. "Me an my friend Ee-lisa need tea. Find tea Daddy." he ordered, standing with his hands on his hips.
Stephan pushed his hair out of his face, giving the boy a tired look. "There's kool-aid over by the playground, why don't you use some of that?" he ofered, not sure where he would find such a strange request. Besides, they probably woulnd't even like real tea.a

Horrified, Elisa quickly gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. Kool-aid? Kool-aid! What was Vega's daddy thinking? Who would possibly substitute kool-aid for tea? How barbaric! Real ladies and gentleman drink tea! Vega's daddy must be like Ivan. He doesn't understand REAL tea parties. Maybe Vega's daddy didn’t understand them either.
Overcoming her horror, Elisa glared at the man and stamped her foot. "No. Tea!" Despite it not being very lady-like, she was getting her point across. She refused to play tea party without tea.
Honestly, where was Ivan when you needed him. Elisa could have blackmailed him into getting them tea already. This was upsetting...

Steps sighed, looking at the girl across the table. She shrugged, taking a sip of her beet. He thought for a moment, staring around the festival, then paused. With a smile he pulled out his wallet, handing a five dollar bill to Vega. "One of the people walking around is selling iced tea," he explained, "Now go find her and have fun."
Vega grinned triumphantly, waving the bill at Elisa. "No we get tea," he proclaimed, stuffing the bill into his pocket for safekeeping. He wasn't sure if he could get more from Stephan if he tried, but he didn't want Elisa to get bored, so he would leave that for later.
