"Catacombs in Los Angelos?" you ask. Why certainly. Let me take you back to a time when Vampires were few and far between, and where many a mortal believed in them. Much of this has changed; the stories of vampiriacal viciousness, faded into the sands of time. Many people are unaware of the horrible and bloody wars between mortal and the undead. The occurances are so fantastical, that there could be no way that they are true. We live in a world where science can prove everything, and anything that is a mystery must not be true until it is proven to be so. Vampires have faded from existence, though you can find a few lirking in the shadows. During the early 19th century, vampires were like this as well, but due to the vampire craze and increasing numbers of slayings, the few vampires were driven to find new ways to hide their dark secret. Taking from the Christian idea, a great intricate passageway was built under the city. It was highly successful and the mortals slowly forgot about the monsters, only adding the many stories to the list of other legends. Like the witch and the werewolf before them, vampires had disapeared from the minds of their prey. 2 centuries later, The city of Los Angelos is thriving with human life, but unbeknownst to them, beneath their subway stations and sewers lie the great Catacombs of long ago. There, the very creatures that went into hiding, live. Most of the newer vampires, changed after the beginning of the 20th century do not know of this archetectural wonder. You will be the first of many to see it... ... ...

Gabriel stood, in the central hall of the empty catacombs as he listened to the sounds of life above him. He could hear the buzz of music and traffic as people moved on with their lives. But more then the electric synthesisers, or the high-pitched sounds of angry drivers, Gabriel enjoyed to listen to the natural, less audible sounds of the human. If he zoned in enough, he could here the snores of the sleeping, the heavy breathing of the intoxicated, and if he paid enough attention he could hear heartbeats. Steady, strong, as if they were beating in time to the ballad of life. He almost felt the oxiginated blood as if it flowed through his very being.
Gabriel stiffened as he stepped out of oblivion. The world was a horrible place. Not anything like the world he grew up in. There was a war raging. He could feel the stress seeping through the ground. This wasn't just any war. Before it would be a small dispute between the vamps and the demons, or the vampires and the Lycanthropes, etc. There would be two parties, but now, with all of this comotion and killing, Nobody knew who to trust anymore.
Gabriel passed through one of the many thresholds leading to one of the many twisting passageways, this one leading west. He ran his sensitive fingers down the damp, cold stones, that were layered so close together. The passageway was dark, but because of his enhanced senses, Gabriel had no trouble navigating the tunnels. The only sounds were his footsteps and the occaisional drip of water.
He walked down the passages as he noted the differances in the one hallway. As he was going farther, he reached the older parts of the passage. These passages had been built after the very first passages, but nobody got around to renovating these tunnels because they led deaper into the earth. Gabriel continued at the same pace until he reached a stone wall of a varying color. It was more hastily built then the others because of a breach. A breach that could have ended more severely if it hadn't been responded to, as quickly as it had. At one point(18th century) a vampire had stumbled across a decaying body that had belonged to a vampire. It was butchered, and hardly recognizable because of it. After investigation and other tragic deaths, they soon solved the problem by blocking it at it's source.
Why did I even come here? he wondered in silence. He thought back to the many years before. Gabriel had been angered by one infamous vampire and went out intending to kill it. Before completing his mission, however, he ran across a group of passive vampires. Intrigued by this he was soon introduced to a lifestyle secluded from the human part of it. Every once in a while, if he heard of a particularly violent attack on society, Gabriel would take it into his hands to see to the application of justice. Gabriel sighed. "It's too crazy, to do anything now..."

Gabriel paced in the central hall as his thoughts danced through his head. What was going on in the real world. He knew that the many races were slaughtering one another, but he wanted more information; he wanted to know why. Gabriel hadn't been out in a while, a fact he much regretted. He slowly wrestled over the idea of whether he should stay or leave his stronghold. What if he was overwhelmed by his animal hunger. It wouldn't be obvious, and he wouldn't go so far as to killing someone, but he would still regret losing control. He finally reached a decision and headed towards the noise of the city. Information was much more appealing. Gabriel ducked his head as he cleared a low archway and, by shoving a large boulder out of the way, revealed the intrance to one of Los Angelos' many sewers. Scaling a moldy ladder, Gabriel stepped out into a crowded noisy world, unfamiliar to him. [how long has it been since I first locked myself away from this life?
