Seth had been continuing his walks around the city, though nothing had happened to him since that annoying street kid had claimed he was someone he’d beaten up. Though he had gotten his bearings around most of the place, he avoided walking past the outskirts of the carnival that was in town. It was far too noisy for his liking, and more people than he’d like to admit had already mistaken him for some circus performer.

He’ tuck his head wings under some of his hair, at least amongst the crowds that surrounded the carnival, it would provide some cover for him. He’d never understand why mortals liked this so much, too many people, too much noise, and at those machine did was make them dizzy and sick.

Kayla was nearly sick with delight. So much noise, and bright colors, and shiny things, and yummy smells! Loki had given up on turning her mind to more scholarly pursuits, and let the girl have her taste of the wild life. Indeed, he was somewhat charmed by the mortals' festivities. There wasn't roast boar, or mead, but there was plenty of chaos. A much needed change from Kayla's sulk in her room. It had taken much coaxing and wheedling to raise the girl's courage to the bit of rebellion, but once started, she had proven eager to continue.

So, Kayla whirled from exhibit to exhibit, 'ooohed' and 'aaaahed' at the appropriate times, and, to Loki's delight, used her invisibility to sneak a bit of rock candy away from a vendor.

Sucking contentedly on her prize, Kayla felt a little guilty, but Loki praised her lavishly for taking the initiative, and she was soon skipping proudly along, heedless of her course through the teeming crowds.

That was it, Seth had reached the last straw, some dumb kid had tugged on his hair to get his attention amongst the all the noise. Once again someone had though him for some circus freak. Visiting this place wasn’t helping anything, there weren’t any other Godlings around, just annoying kids. It didn’t matter, Seth was soon off, the kid who’d tugged on his hair had now forgotten everything he’d been doing for the past few days.

He had been about ot leave, if where not for some girl he crashed into along the way. Knocking him and his skinny frame to the ground.

Kayla fell back from the impact, rock candy spinning off into a puddle. Not really hurt, Kayla nevertheless felt like crying. Her rock candy! Loki would be mad at her! Tears burned at the corners of her eyes as she looked to see who she'd bumped into.

"Oh!" Kayla stared for a second, and then looked away, remembering what her Mama had told her about staring. Loki, in the meantime, was rather surprised at Kayla's seemingly magical ability to run into Godlings, for the person she'd run into could be nothing except a Godling. He told Kayla as much, and she was suddenly very curious to see if he was at all like Mr. Doggie or Jubs.

Wiping the tears from her eyes, she got up and took the older Godlings hand, intending to help him to his feet, though he had a considerably longer way to go than she.

"I'm sorry I ran into you!" she apologized, sniffling a little bit, but smiling otherwise.

Seth would have other wise told the girl to watch where she was going and stop being so foolish. Though he wasn’t quite that heartless, especially seeing as she was crying. That, and she was far better dressed that the street kid from the other day, maybe she was one of those upper folk. As she stared at him he stared back, to hi, she didn’t look odd. Seth really hadn’t gotten sued to the real world yet.

He was a bit startled when the girl took his hand, being unsure what she was doing. Seth pick himself up, the girl holding his hand didn’t exactly help, but she was certainly scoring more brownie points than most.

“Erm, it’s okay” Seth said, still taken aback how nice she was. She was an angel by comparison to the other people he’d met. “Sorry…I knocked your candy away” he said that like it too ka great deal of effort.

Kayla smiled up at him.
"It's okay, Mister!" she replied to his apology. "I was nearly finished, anyway."

She noticed she was still holding his hand, and memories of her Papa doing business prompted her to shake his hand, rather vigorously, while she introduced herself. This was fun!

"I'm Kayla! Nice to meet you!" she grinned, trying to add a hearty laugh like her Papa. It was rather humorous sound coming from the small girl. Loki, in the meantime, was attempting to identify the kid's God/dess.

The kid seemed rather lethargic, as if doing things took a lot of energy. The clothing was odd, too. Heck, the entire kid was pretty darn odd, and wasn't ringing any bells. Loki settled to the back of Kayla's mind, and allowed her to handle the interaction. She might be able to get the kid to talk, and let something slip. Hopefully, she'd remember his advice on tact...

Hopefully.

"So, um..." Kayla started, unsure what to ask the "Mister". "Do you like carnivals? I do! This is my first one! I wonder why they don't have carnivals all the time? It would be nifty to have all the lights and music everywhere you go."

Okay, maybe she was a little bit too friendly.

Something was odd about her, Seth couldn’t be sure. Hypnos hadn’t taught him how to identify Godlings, he hadn’t even realised that Jubs was one. It was something Hypnos had mentally noted down for when Seth took his next nap.

“Seth” He said, keeping his straight face as par usual, despite his increasing hesitancy towards her overbearing friendliness.

“Seth she’ s another player” Hypnos finally piped up in the back of his head. “Be careful okay, I won’t want a repeat of yesterday, okay?”

“Yes father”

“Not really, I was going to leave actually” Seth hoped maybe she’d want to walk along wit him, maybe get something out of her while he left. Kill two birds with one stone. Hypnos was proud, he was finally starting to think ahead.

((Gah! I'm so sorry I left you hanging for so long!))

Kayla didn't really seem to notice Seth's increasing discomfort with her friendly attitude. She did find it odd that he didn't like carnivals. But maybe he was like Ms. Copper. She was an old lady who never left home, and smelled kind of funny. Papa made Kayla deliver pastries to her on occasion, and Ms. Copper always chided Kayla to stand up straighter and brush her hair even if it had been brushed just that morning.

Kayla really hoped Seth wasn't like Ms. Copper, though his clothing said otherwise.

"Oh." she said, a little crestfallen, and finally released his hand. She proceeded to dig one of her shoes into the street, feeling suddenly shy.

What's the matter? Loki asked, bewildered by Kayla's sudden change in mood.

"Would you mind staying with me for a while?" she asked Seth, ignoring Loki for the moment. Loki wasn't pleased, but refrained from doing anything that might give himself away.

Kayla gave Seth her best innocent 'please buy me that expensive toy' look.
"I'm sure you'll find something to like!"

((Ack, same here >_<)

He would have liked to tell her “No” at this point, but kids had that effect on anyone. That and he did sort of owe her one for that candy, even if she was the one who bumped into him. Still, the carnival wasn’t too his liking, too any disorientating lights, and his ears where already starting to ring from the overly loud music.

But, if it was what Father wanted, he wouldn’t have much choice in the matter.

“…alright” he finally piped up, his voice sort of hoarse from having to talk over the various background noise, Seth wasn’t used to talking normally, let alone loudly.

He was rewarded by the biggest grin that could possibly fit on the younger girl's face as she ran forward, but stopped just short of, giving him a hug. It was a rather eerie moment of perception for Kayla, but based on his earlier reactions to her holding his hand, she guessed that he wasn't a hugging type. So, instead she took a proprietary hold of his hand, and continued to smile sweetly up at her new, sleepy looking friend.

Once she was sure she'd conveyed her joy at his agreeing to accompany her, Kayla looked about to see the potential places they could go. There were gaming stalls nearby, a few food vendors, but the attraction that immediately caught and held Kayla's bedazzled young mind was an abandoned-house-turned-fun-house. In awe, she tugged Seth along with her for a closer look.

It was a two story house, slightly run-down, but whomever had turned it into a fun house had run with the look, creating a dark stone edifice out of which colored lights played upon the street, and disembodied laughter and a jangling, discordant music was piped over the crowd outside it. Faces peered out of the windows, mostly laughing, some making faces at those down below. Sprayed outside the entrance in neon pink graffiti were the words "Strathius' Impromptu House of Fun: Watch your step".

Kayla took this all in with wide-eyed wonderment. She looked up at Seth, with mismatched eyes begging for his approval.

He felt rather awkward, and a little guilty, Kayla was beaming at him, and he was barely giving any effort to at the least sound pleasant. Maybe he should perk up, for her sake. He let her take his hand, returning the grip on hers, and actually managing to force his mouth away from a frown. Seth naturally sleepy aura subsided so none would be effected by it.

“I’ll look like her big brother like this…” Still, he felt odd about all this. All the mortal folk around him where giving looks at the both of them now. But she was smiling, that was a sure sign she was happy, he thought. Still, all his best efforts to think positively probably wouldn’t help him enjoy some of the things the carnival had on offer. He just couldn’t understand why mortals enjoy this so much.

“Okay…Kayla” He said, looking between her and the funhouse, and saying her name for the first time. It was hard to say no to her stare

For the first time, Seth wished his own powers could work on him, he’d greatly prefer to forget the discomfort he was feeling.

Kayla misunderstood Seth's attempts at perking up for her sake as a sign that she had succeeded in finding the one ride he would like. Giggling, and feeling not just a little proud of herself, she returned the squeeze of his grip, and led him to the back of the line leading into the Fun House.

At the back of her mind, Loki sighed, resigning himself to an evening of underwhelming carnival tricks, but kept an eye open for opportunities.

Kayla smiled up at Seth as the line fed them into the entrance of the Fun House. The Front hallway had been painted, rather poorly, in concentric bands of red and yellow, spiraling off to one corner of the room. The floor was also tilted to an obscene angle, making it appear that the person was slated to fall into the center of the swirl. The effect was dizzying, and Kayla found herself gripping tightly onto Seth's hand even as she giggled with glee at the illusion.

Kayla’s constant smiles at him kept Seth feeling like he wasn’t doing what he was supposed to. He tried to return it, but it was one of those things he couldn’t muster. He could, however force his face so he didn’t’ look quite so depressed looking as usual.

When Hypnos had told him to try and be careful with this player, this really what he had in mind. Taking her on carnival rides defiantly wasn’t going to get him anywhere. He prodded Seth mentally.

“She doesn’t look like much of a player Seth, why are you doing this?”

“…She’s just rather hard to say no to Father”

Hypnos sighed, even when he was trying to mould Seth and get rid of his old weakness’ they still shone through.

If Seth had thought the carnival was dizzying, he should have asked Kayla what the fun house was first. Between the haphazard colours and the sideways floors, just looking around inside hurt the senses. Kayla would have been better off gripping to the wall than Seth, as he wasn’t going much of a god job standing up straight himself.

He fell over towards the corner of the tilted room, still holding onto Kayla's hand. “Sorry Kayla…” He mutter gloomy, whilst he tried to pick himself up off the skewered floor. Somehow, he felt guilty that he wasn't having fun.

Kayla felt when Seth began to lose his balance, and Loki jumped to the fore of her mind, sensing an opportunity.

Now! Trip him up while he's off guard!

However, it was Kayla who was caught off guard. She hesitated, and instead of following Loki's order, fell into the corner with Seth. Distracted and upset, she almost missed her new friends' gloomy apology. Reflexively, she smiled at the older boy.

"It's alright!" she assured him, thinking he was worried he'd hurt her. "I'm fine! Are you okay?"

Inwardly, Loki was fuming, but rather than reply to Kayla's protests of "Why? Seth is my friend! I don't want to hurt him.", Loki retreated until he was only a baleful pair of glowing eyes in the recesses of her mind. Confused, Kayla tried to reach him, but received no reply.

Confused, but determined nonetheless to help Seth have a good time at the carnival, Kayla picked herself off the floor, and offered Seth her hand once more to aid him.

Someone the in the depths of the cosmos, there was a good chance Hypnos had his face buried in his hands. he really needed to have a chat with Thantos, he owed him, big time.

Pain wasn't something Seth was used to, leading the sheltered life that he had, he was wincing in pain just after a slight fall like this. "I'm...I'm fine" rubbing at the place where his knee had met the floor while he looked in every direction Kayla wasn't.

He took her had and pulled his weak body up with a little help. Quickly trying to adjust himself to the slanted floor lest he fall over again. "Where's the way out supposed to be?" He said, not really understanding the point of the ride.
