Also known as Armitage The Third, this short series was one of the best cyberpunk anime I've ever seen. It only had four OVAs and two movies. Here's a short description of the plot.
The year is 2046. The overpopulation of Earth has led to the colonization of Mars - with the aid of the "first type" androids, men were able to begin terraforming the unfriendly environment of Mars and build the city of Saint Lowell. Seventy years after the start of colonisation, the city is completed and inhabited by great numbers of people and "second type" robots, much improved versions of the "first types".
However, a cop named Ross Sybilus will soon be mixed in an interplanetary conflict, as he arrives to Mars, and thanks to the discovery of a highly advanced "Third Type" class of androids, which can't be easily told apart from normal humans. Things escalate when the news are unveiled to the public, along with a list of Third Types, who've been living amongst the humans in both the Earth and Mars. Coincidentially, Naomi Armitage, Ross' new partner in the Mars Police Department, is one of them. Or, to put it simple, the best of them.
Someone is purposefully trying to exterminate all Thirds, and it may be up to Ross and his cyborg partner to stop them.
The first movie was a retelling of the four OVAs, but the second, Armitage: Dual Matrix, was better than the series itself (something I didn't quite believe until I saw it) and took place around ten years later.
Now, let's take in consideration what the Thirds are. They're androids with self-awareness and feelings, and they're strong enough to resist a few gunshots, or to bend metal girders easily. What else could they do? Naomi herself did something no other Third ever did, as she and Ross (now her husband) had a child, Yoko, who was completely human.
But when someone tries to get Naomi to replicate her combat abilities (and whatever allowed her to bear a child,) she is forced to leave her home, and to face a greedy human CEO who won't stop at nothing to get Armitage's secret.
And in the end, Armitage will have to face two replicas of herself to save her child and her husband... But she's got a secret not even Ross knows about, and that secret may just save the day for them.
My final comments: If you like shows with action and blood, or you like shows with kick-a** main female characters, watch this. It's a classic, and a very good one.

I have both of the Armitage the third DVD's and they rock. It was one of the earliest animes I ever watched. Both Armitage the third: Polymatrix and Armitage the third: Dual matrix with her and her daughter.
