This thread is necessary because all the other threads featuring Jacob Black set him up on a pedestal for the Edward vs. Jacob debate.
I, a Jacob Black fanatic, am also not liking the fact that this guild has become a central hub for all the Edward fans. Last time I checked, this wasn't the Edward Cullen guild.
Also, we Jacob lovers need to have one place, once and for all, where we can duke it out with debate but also a safehaven to let us fan over who we like.
But, wait. Let me start with a few quotes from some Jacob/Bella LJ communities. Otherwise we would all be arguing over the same thing over and over again because some people don't take the time to read over previous pages to see what points have already been stated. Let me lay some key things out on the table.

Because, I think, love is not only about the person of your desire (life is not as easy as that! We all wish), it's about the circumstances as well, meaning: the kind of life you would lead with this person, and giving up your entire family and friends? Hell no! I know that Edward is the dreamy-thing and I would totally choose him if he was a normal boy against Jacob, but the things that Bella has to give up are too high.
Maybe it's a cultural thing: how much family means to the people, and the friends as well. I'm not saying that E/B shippers are against family values, but... hmmm, how could I explain myself? I would choose Jacob because of the whole package he offers being Bella's partner, not because he's better than Edward or something like that (as if they were THINGS to compare, that's silly, everybody is different), but because... yeah, being a vampire, in a way, isolates you from the world and... getting trapped at age eighteen-nineteen?! HELL NO! I would die if I had to go to school over and over again. Growing up is the greatest thing ever. Not only mentally, but also physically.
This whole fight about Edward vs Jacob is getting incredibly stupid. Comparing Edward and Jacob is like putting oranges against apples. They are completely different things! But the beautiful thing about Jacob is that Bella's world would not be just about him.
Edward said already (and I found it very funny while reading it, but now I think it's a bit creepy) that life gets "easier" because all the people you love DIE and the problem is solved. OK, it sounded funny... but seriously, what would happen after all the people you care about is DEAD? Bella is not the kind of character who is eager to gain immortality because of all the cultural knowledgement she could win (that way, she would have all my respect, but oh no... she doesn't think about those things), but just because of Edward. What kind of life would she lead, just living with the Cullens and not being able to "change" life-stages? Going to a university is really a GREAT thing and she wouldn't know that. She would not even want to send a bloody application! Having kids would be great too, and getting older, wiser... blaaaaargh, she's so wrong, but OK, it's romance in books, and they do not reflect what life really is.
In the perfect world, Edward would not be a vampire and they could actually live happily ever after.
In the perfect world, Edward and Bella would have met many years later, when she was smarter, wiser, more mature, and she would ALSO want to archieve inmortality because of all the places she could visit, all the music, books, and things she could absorb and learn ---I mean, having so much time in her hands.
In the perfect world, Edward would be over seventeen (you know what I mean). He would be in the sweet age of 20-30-something (at least, to be able to work properly!), and Bella wouldn't have to fight with the fact that she would look funny having a younger partner.
In the perfect world, the Twilight fandom would not be just seeing Edward and Jacob alone, but also the circumstances they have attached to them.
In the perfect world, the crazy Edward fangirls would not see me as the weirdest thing for thinking beyond.

I think just about all Jacob/Bella fans liked Edward/Bella at some point, because otherwise they would never have bothered to read on to the second book. I really don't dislike Edward at all and just definitely prefer Jacob personally because he's more my "type," but that kind of preference is completely insignificant in regards to arguing for the ship because obviously Bella is attracted to both of them. Much more importantly, I ship J/B because I just think it's the more responsible, more moral, healthier choice for her to make.
I've been writing a lot of post-Eclipse fics about Bella being a vampire, and the more I play with the idea to try to come to terms with how Steph Meyer could possibly mean to make it work and seem at all like a good idea, the more I actually realize just how ******** up and wrong it is. It's just not a cost that is worth being with the person you love, especially when you really don't have to do it; Bella is insecure and afraid of aging and that's why she's in such an insane hurry to get it done with, but she doesn't even have to do it at all to stay with Edward. I think even after everything she realized throughout Eclipse, she still doesn't have a complete comprehension of what she's giving up. The idea that love is all she needs in her life is absolutely prehistoric and not exactly feminist. In fairy tales it might work that way, but not in real life.
I think the person you love should complete your life, not BE your life. Love should be good for you. It should be sun and air, not just a passionate fire that consumes and destroys everything else in your life. Isn't it kind of curious that the quote from Romeo and Juliet at the beginning of New Moon is a very pessimistic one that's not describing true love at all, but the kind of intense passion that dies as fast it starts? Just look at the way SparkNotes has it translated into modern English and it makes it even more WTF-worthy:
"These sudden joys have sudden endings. They burn up in victory like fire and gunpowder. When they meet, as in a kiss, they explode. Too much honey is delicious, but it makes you sick to your stomach. Therefore, love each other in moderation. That is the key to long-lasting love. Too fast is as bad as too slow.
