What an odd time it's been, recently. While Noyana was accustomed to giving many of her kills to others, she hadn't ever given them to just one lion over and over. She hadn't minded, but it was just different. As Matisho had told her, Noyana stayed largely out of his way. Recently, though, she'd been feeling a touch under the weather... And had a strange urge to hunt more than she needed. She'd left littler kills- rabbits and klipspringers mainly- just outside the den, hidden as well as she could hide them. All of them were fresh from today. Yes, she was acting odd today indeed. And since Noyana was... well, herself, she couldn't tell that she smelled funny.
She looked impatient for something as she went out to get another hare to stash away for... the gods knew what reason. She checked to make sure Mat's dad wasn't lurking, as she had gotten in the habit of, and left, quickly returning with a dead rabbit in her mouth.

Mat looked down at the drips of tainted dirt, all over the ground around the den's entrance. Something was strange was going on, the scent clung to the air, it was Noy's. She was here just recently and then she was off again. Sniffing the air, he followed her scent stopped short from the den's entrance before it became something completely different. He paused, looking around, taking frequent steps back to the den, sniffing up her scent again, before going up to where he had stopped. The scent changed to something else again and not only that, it went out in almost every direction from the den. Emerald eyes were not so much focused on the chance of his father's watching, but more where the hell the female went. The den was scattered with pieces of meat here and there, blood stained dirt, and the scent of this... other was around. What was going on here? Where was Noyana?
He growled. "I did not get myself almost kicked by a damn male to learn something about females to find the very female that it was about to disappear on me."

Noyana's stomach ached, but it wasn't anything she couldn't push through. She was having cramps, she knew that's what they were called, but she refused to acknowledge it. She came just to the den's mouth and dropped the rabbit, seeing Mat. "Hey, don't eat these yet, ok? I've been hunting all day," she said. "I've got a feeling we'll be hungry, and we shouldn't eat them yet... Do you think that's enough?" She asked looking down at them. She hadn't even eaten a bite, simply killed and dropped. She didn't know why they'd be needing them, just that they would. She didn't know that she probably wouldn't leave the cave for 14 days... But now she was done with her hunting, she felt. "I think that's enough," she said without giving Mat a chance to speak as she sat down in front of him. "So how are you?" She asked with a smile.

Mat narrowed his eyes. A new scent lingered in the air as soon as he entered his temporary home. Just like Trigger had said. Her scent was still lingering around the den but when Noyana herself came... the strange scent only became stronger and the scent of her old scent was being overwhelmed. It was strange... his nose flared as he took it in. It seemed strange but when he did, his fur seemed to stand on end and his cheek-no, body heated up gradually. Crescendoed, his body became warm, but it was a nice change to the cold nights he has had. Emerald eyes glanced around too all the things she had caught.. why was she... "Feeling we'll be hungry"? "Shouldn't eat them yet"? "Enough"? he looked at her and narrowed his eyes. A slight growl passed his maw as he moved quickly to her before planting his muzzle against her neck, taking a rather enlongated sniff. His eyes shot opened as it was confirmed. .. Lots of food, the new scent, and the strange feeling...
She was in heat.
Slowly he pulled from her, staring directly in the eyes. Did she know? Was she playing with him? Was she even aware of his presence missing? Did she even think it was weird to go off hunting like this? Mat growled and sat himself down.
"Besides the new scent, the sur... sur... sur... the overload of food, and me being warm, I am Damn fine. Now how about you? Tired? Hot? Cramped?" a smirk crossed his maw as he looked at her, waiting for her reply. She was in heat, he was positive. But what he wasn't sure about but he felt like this could be another dirty trick by Tahka. "So, Noy... how do you feel about me?" he questioned, puffing his muscled chest in confidence.

It was his behavior that she found odd. She wondered why, exactly, he had waanted a sniff, and what he was talking about. "New scent?" she asked aloud with a puzzled look on her face. What was he talking about. "And you mean surplus," Noyana said, hoping he'd remember it.
"And how do you know what I feel like?" she asked, more baffled. Was she curling over from the stomach ache? She straightened up... How did he know she was hot, tired and cramped? She didn't say anything more on the topic. "What do you mean, how do I feel about you?" she asked, her voice trailing off towards the end of her sentence. She rose to her feet and took a step forward... then another until she had her muzzle by his ear. "You know how I feel about you," she said softly, in a whisper. She didn't move, she rather liked things like this.

The sudden movement just made the scent even stronger for him, the constant breathing made his nose flare more and more he breathed. He purred at the touch before catching him. What was that for!? he thought, looking at her, raising his head to look over her. He smirked to himself for being taller than her. That is one slight plus in this relationship. His cheeks turned a rather bright color, sighing softly.
"Yeah... surplus..."
Shaking his head, he scowled at her. Mat thought for a second before smirking, turning his eyes back at her. Perhaps Trigger was right about it; if she was faking this whole "I love you" bit. If this worked out, she should say no... He put on the most compassionate expression he could... well, it wasn't much of a change, but it was a try. A slight smirk and it wasn't so much of a scowl either. What a change!
"Noyana... would you have my cubs?"

Noyana sat back to look at him. That was an odd question. She had expected it to come up sooner or later, but it was odd. She had the answer prepared though, and she could say it without a doubt. "Of course I'd have your cubs, Mat, if you'd let me have them," she responded, blushing just a little bit, barely to be seen through her coat. She looked him directly in the eye when she said it, and she truly meant it. She gave him a lick and headed deeper into the den. If he followed her or not was up to him.

Mat looked dumbfounded as he was answered. Not exactly as he had planned... was she kidding? Was she serious? His eyes glanced back at her as her rear end disappeared down below. As alluring as that... WHAT AM I THINKING!?. He roared to himself and looked back at the den. She seemed so sure of it! She looked directly at him, she said those words with almost utter confidence that it was eerie... With a deep breath he followed her down into the den... perhaps that breath of her scent was not the best thing to do...
He nudged her to get her attention, "Noy, you're in heat. Are you sure you know what you are saying? I mean, when you are in heat, you can't think straight, you're thoughts are clouded with only one thought and that's..." he cut off. "But it lasts for fourteen days and we don't hunt and... and..."
He looked at her as if she weren't even listening to him... He did ask... she did agree... was it wrong to follow through this? With a grim expression, he sighed. Remembering what Trigger had told him prior to his return... if he was not going to raise any cubs, he would be just like his father. If he loved someone, he should stick with her. But, so soon? Why did he even ask!? But the first thing on his mind was; he would never be like his father.
"Are you..." he sighed, taking a breath. "Sure?"

Curled up in a ball, Noyana shivered in the cold. "I know I'm in heat," she said, agitated. She did not like it... not yet. Right now it was just cramps and odd behaviors, such as hunting and not wanting to eat it.
"I know what I'm saying, Mat. I love you, and if you'll let me have your cubs, I would be the happiest lioness in the world." Aside from her instinctual urge to mass up some food, she was in her normal mind. "I'm certain, Mat." She said, her voice soft in the darkness. She uncurled and layed on her back- the typical stance for doing the backstroke if she had been swimming, but she just found it more comfortable to stretch right now... Being on her back helped her stomach ache a bit, too.

Mat took a few steps toward her, placing a paw lightly on her stomach, his claws touching it lightly. Ever since his fight with Tahka and then with his father... it was hard for him to take his claws back in... it seemed like it was just too hard to do it that it became habitual. His eyes fell back on her, wandering what was wrong with her. She was too... too powder-puffy girly.... it was almost sickening. This wasn't the same Noyana that he "liked" and met before... then again, this was her heat. Estrus made everyone around the female act... differently.
He sighed and dipped a little to lick her ear before sitting beside her.
"Noy, if you are really into this..." he started to rub the back of his head, something he was told that his father did too when he was nervious. "Fine." he agreed. "But if we are going to do this, we are doin' it my way. With fourteen days for us to use, I am going to make sure to get you what you want." with another breath as he slowly tries to convince himself what he was doing was right for him. "Fourteen days together... here... alone... I'll admit that mating with you is a little weird.. but if you really want this..."

"I guess I saw it coming, whether I thought I did or not," Noyana said, thinking about her stockpiled kills and lifting her head to look at them. Something in her must've felt that he'd want more than just once or twice... instincts-Noyana knew they were highly useful. Fourteen days? That seemed like a long time to be cooped up in a den, but it was with good company, so she didn't mind.
Weird? He thought it weird? Whatever, she just pushed the thought off. She sat up again, growing restless from her stomach. Not that it was killing her, it was just annoying. If she didn't know any better, she'd say Mat didn't want to mate with her... she didn't want to make him. Her ears dropped a bit. "I want it," she said honestly, her emerald eyes meeting his.

Mat took a deep breath and watched her move. He was slowly growing overwhelmed by the smell, it being cramped in such a small area. But his heart was telling him to suck it up, swallow his pride, and just get it over with. He had a female waiting for him, one who catered to him, one who cared about him. But females were so annoying and weak... but Noy proved... well, half of that wrong. She was a strong willed female with a very persistant attitude and she was a very good hunter. Able to catch fourteen days worth of food... it was evident. He nudged her softly.
"Fourteen days of heat, only you and me." he smirked a bit. "You want my cubs... you will get them and I promise you that you will, trust me, I have fourteen give my mate what she wants," he chuckled rather playfully before stepping away from her, waiting for her response.

Noyana would've blushed... if she'd have had the time. With his playful step Noyana quickly absorbed it and accepted it as fact, which boosted her mood even more. She now had a mate... A mate! Not any mate, a male who didn't underestimate her, and treated her as an equal, not as a female that needed to be tended to. Noy was quickly on her paws and she mimicked his playful step with one of her own. She smiled at him, but it wasn't just a typical smile. She was determined to outdo him, or at least fail having given her all. A race, or whatever else he was planning on doing, she was sure the next two weeks would be more than enjoyable. She smirked as if to challenge him.

Mat smirked back and nudged her. He knew that smirk... he knew it well because he gave it all the time. With a quick snap of his jaws he let out a deep purr roll in his chest, flipping the mane out of his face for a clear view of his target. He stepped forward, nuzzling her roughly and conflicted with a soft lick as a paw cupped her cheek... the same place he had hit her before.
"Challenging me... will only end up having you lose..." with a rather feral purr, he pressed her down and continued. These next fourteen days were only a bridge, between his life of cruelty and the place where he did not fit anywhere to a life where he actually had someone beside his family. His heart knew what he was doing. He knew what he was doing.
For once; he did something his father could never do.
