"Lord Sesshomaru, what’s wrong?”
Sesshomaru came out of his reverie to find Rin looking at him with a genuine concerned expression. “It’s nothing.” I heard something moving through the trees behind you. I’m positive it wasn’t a woodland animal. “What is it?” she asked again as his gaze turned colder than ice. I do not recognize the scent of its blood. It is a Creature I have not encountered in a century, he thought while making an effort to pry his eyes away from the firelight.
Rin moved closer to her friend and protector, Master Jaken. I don’t like the look of that. I’ve never seen Lord Sesshomaru seem so...
“Rin, take Ah-Un and come with me,” the imp whispered as to not disturb his master while he went to pursue the strange scent. “It’s not safe here.” She hastily mounted the two headed demon and gathered up the reins. Footsteps told her that her lord was approaching her.
“Keep this with you.” Sesshomaru drew his Tenseiga and laid the sheath across Rin’s lap. “It will protect you when I cannot.”
“Make sure that you don’t die.”
Don’t be ridiculous, Rin. I will come back for you. I promise. She reached out to him to gently touch his striped cheek. As she leaned forward, she lost her balance in the saddle and nearly fell off. His arm instinctively reached out to steady her and she seemed to regain her sense of stability. He stepped closer and embraced her tightly, as if he would never let go. Rin blushed and responded likewise, entwining her fingers in his silver tresses. Sesshomaru had never held her before, not even seemed like he wanted to, and here she was, in his arms. “Um… my lord, you can let go now.” He reluctantly complied and smiled before he turned and hurried through the dense foliage.
“Are you coming? Yoo-hoo! Earth to Rin... Duck!!!!!!!” Jaken poised his staff to completely fry a couple of Naraku’s poisonous insects. He had just barely lowered it when what seemed like a thousand more of them came towards him.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Sesshomaru stopped at the edge of a small clearing, hoping to catch a scent of his traveling companions. It was there, although it wasn’t comforting. Why did I do that? I have always been wary of my actions towards her when Jaken is around. What was it that made me act in such a way? I have absolutely every right to stop myself before it goes too far. Of course, then I would be implying that I did not want it. I do want it, and she doesn’t know that yet. It is best if I keep it that way for now. He scanned the tree line until his amber eyes met those of a demoness not unlike himself. Her clothing consisted of a kimono the same dark hue as the leaves surrounding her. “So, Sesshomaru, we meet for the first time in two years. I have always wanted to see you with my own eyes. You are so much like your father. Or, should I say, our father.” She stood, revealing a sword that Sesshomaru knew to be the Sou’unga.
“What do you mean by that, woman? Never mind. You’re lying. You will regret you ever spoke this blasphemy... after you’re dead!!!!” He drew his Toukijin and charged at her, just barely missing her kimono by a centimeter. They sparred off for almost two hours that way, each one determined to win his own by subduing the other. Sesshomaru finally managed to force her on the ground at sword point. “You’re surprisingly agile, woman. What do you call yourself? I wish to know before I kill you and take your sword. Or should I say my father’s sword. How did you get hold of that anyways? Did you steal it?”
She raised her chin and stared at him coldly. “My name is Kamari. I came in pursuit of the one who can handle this sword in exchange for his Tenseiga.”
“Get up, then. I will not hand it over, because it has saved my life more than once of its own accord. You are foolish to think that you can possibly destroy me, and leave with my, excuse me, our father’s fang.” He sheathed his Toukijin and held out his hand to help her stand, but she ignored it. What will Rin think when I return? I can just hear her now: “Lord Sesshomaru!!! You sent us into hiding for a WOMAN???!!!!!!!” She would be furious. Oh, well, I should at least get around to introducing them one time when she’s not so outraged. “Kamari, there is someone I would like you to be acquainted with, if we do meet again.” She would be shocked that I have a mortal girl with me almost 24/7!!!! He walked back to the edge of the clearing and said, “Good night, little sister,” before rushing through the forest.
Kamari smiled to herself. Good night to you, too, big brother. You are so strong and so…so handsome.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Rin was silent all the way back to the fire. Why had he smiled? Lord Sesshomaru never smiles, even when something is hysterically funny, like Master Jaken being thrown off of Ah-Un every once in a while for being a complete idiot. I remember the feeling of his hair…so silky. Like it was created by angels. Rin tightened her hold on the two-headed demon’s reins. She sighed and guided him to where Jaken was sleeping, his staff still clutched in his hands. It had reached the midnight hour already; she hypothesized, observing the sky, its starlit endlessness totally encasing the world in darkness. Lord Sesshomaru hasn’t returned yet, and it’s a little creepy here. “Jaken, I’m starting to get a little worried. It doesn’t sound like there’s a fight going on anywhere nearby. Are you sure that his lordship said he was going to be involved in a dangerous investigation?”
“I think so,” the imp replied, rubbing his eyes and stretching out as far as his short limbs would let him. “There’s nothing to be frightened of, Rin. Go to sleep. I will keep watch until he comes back.” He stood, sniffing the air to catch the scent of his master. "His smell is stronger than usual. Maybe his mother decided to pay him a visit, or maybe he has a twin sibling. Or maybe he transformed. Or maybe-“
“Jaken.” A deep voice spoke directly into the demon’s ear, startling him.
“Yes, Rin?”
YOU IDIOT!!!!! YOU THOUGHT I WAS HUMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sesshomaru stepped out from behind the tree where they were resting. His fist slammed into the side of Jaken’s head, knocking him unconscious. “Rin, are you unharmed?”
“I’m fine, my lord.”
“Very well. Is there anything you need before I go look for dinner?” He knelt beside her and gazed questioningly into her chestnut brown eyes, his hand resting delicately on her shoulder.
“No, but thank you for asking anyways.” Rin smiled, and then she said without thinking, “Why did you hurt Master Jaken?”
Amazed, and embarrassed, Sesshomaru stood without saying a word and turned to go, but she was not done talking. “You shouldn’t abuse him like that!”
“It’s none of your business, child.”
“But-“
“I’m leaving.”
“My lord-…”
“What?!!” he asked in frustration.
I’m scared when you leave. “It’s nothing. Never mind. May I come with you?”
“This is not for little girls to witness. I thought you knew that. Stay here.”
Rin felt shocked. He knew of her fears, didn’t he? “Oh, I get it. You’re just trying to make my life more miserable, aren’t you?” She was so close to tears. “The point is, do you remember when I told you that I’m uncomfortable when a person is harming another person for no reason?”
Sesshomaru controlled himself enough to say, “I remember that well. But I must ask: how is that relevant to what has occurred here?!”
“You’re harming an innocent person-I mean demon-and Master Jaken wasn’t fully awake when you said his name to get his attention. He thought I was still talking to him. Please, Lord Sesshomaru. Don’t get angry.”
The assailant flicked a stray piece of silver hair behind him and replied with cold civility, “I am not one to apologize, but if it matters that much to you, I will attempt to refrain from striking him.” He turned once more to go and search for food.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Jaken sat up, rubbing the rather large bump on his head. “He’s never completely knocked me out before. The nerve of him!!!!! YOU UNGRATEFUL MUTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oof,” he grunted as a pebble hit him on the other side. “I thought it might help even out the pain,” Rin explained sarcastically, her arms folded across her chest and her back turned on him. “Speaking of having no gratitude or compassion!!!!”
“You brazen child!” The toad demon raised his staff to hit her, but a thin strip of light blocked his attack, announcing the arrival of his master.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Another hour had passed in peace. Jaken was gently snoring beneath the tree, and Rin was resting her head on his shoulder. I should have known that something like this would come to taunt me later. She is barely awake. “Rin.”
“Hmm?” she asked sleepily.
“Come here. I have a small favor to ask of you.” Sesshomaru sat cross-legged so that he could look her in the eye.
“What is it, Lord Sesshomaru?” Rin stood uncertainly in front of him, her hands clasped behind her back in a respectful fashion.
He hesitated for a moment. “Will you comb out my hair? I cannot seem to reach it all tonight, and it needs to be done.” Plus, I’m well aware of the fact that you’ve wanted to do that al your life. Surprisingly, she took the comb from his outstretched hand and began to untangle the knots. That was a relief. At least I did not have any trouble with persuading her to do it. Her scent… so overwhelming, and yet so sweet. And the comb never pulls too hard, or maybe I am imagining things… I wonder if I should ask her to apologize or not for being impertinent. Perhaps now is the time to make a move. “I would like to enlighten you of my current uncertainty. You seem to have no obligation whatsoever to stay with us, and yet you do. I hold nothing against that, but I wish to know why.”
Rin stared at her comb. “I need someone to protect me, and you are the only one who is strong enough to accomplish that.” She ran it through his parted bangs and started to walk away, but he caught her hand.
“Stay here a while longer. I- …I desire your company.”
“But I thought I was being punished for what I said earlier. I’m sorry.” She tried to pull away, but he would not let go.
Sesshomaru drew her closer and fixed his golden eyes on hers. “I am not keeping you awake for an apology. I simply wanted someone to be with, if that is fine with you.”
“Are you lonely, my lord?” Rin sat next to him and tried to look as though she was comfortable doing so. “Is that why you want me here now? Or is there another reason, and I’m too young to understand,” she added as his eyes widened in pure shock. Have I said something? Oh, no! He thinks I’m being ridiculous! What should I say? “I said too much, didn’t I? I’m really sorry about it. I won’t-“
“Rin, I-…”
She sounded so nervous that he stopped there and didn’t say anything for a long time. Finally she spoke up: “Lord Sesshomaru, do I really mean that much to you?” He looked down, blushed, and saw that his hand had somehow slid up her arm and was now stroking her shaking shoulder. Rin buried her head in his kimono and wept until her whole body ached. “You’re the first person who’s ever cared about me that much. I appreciate that.” So thoroughly moved by her words of praise, Sesshomaru placed his other arm under her and lifted her into his lap.
“Did I make that much of an impact?” he asked himself while holding back an urge to cling to her. She needed her distance. “Go back to sleep, now. And stop those useless tears. It’s ok. I’m right here.” Rin slowly, almost reluctantly sat up and tried to smile. They did not realize they were so intimate until Sesshomaru was crushed by her scent and she felt a delicate touch of his soft lips on hers. Both faces were bright pink with sheer embarrassment, and she pulled away, her breath shaky and her heart pounding. He moved towards her to kiss her again and this time she didn’t resist his silent request. Her hands found his hair and she couldn’t resist the urge to run her fingers through it. This continued until Rin noticed he was loosening her belt. Oh, no!!! He’s going to…!!!
Why am I doing this? I should be refraining, and yet I submit to the powers of affection. Her body is shaking in my arms, and I cannot let go, even though my mind tells me I must. I have no business doing this!!!!! He released his hold on her and gazed longingly into her eyes before she stood and ran off in the direction of the line of trees. I’m sorry, Rin. I was not supposed to be doing such a lecherous thing like that.. . . . . . . . . . . .
2 hours later…………………………
Rin wandered to the edge of a quiet pool. He kissed me. Just what I had always imagined, but somehow, it was different. Like he wanted it to be more than it was, but he resigned from doing so at the last second. Who knows how far he would have taken it? That sort of scares me. I wonder if he’s… But that’s impossible. I’m only 15 years old. How could a demon love a human? A twig snapped behind her. “What was that,” she wondered as she undressed to bathe.
Jaken timidly inched forward, but stopped when he spotted her in the water. “Rin!!!! Where are you?!” He peered out from under a sheltering bough of an oak tree nearby. “Oh, there you are, bathing. His Lordship is looking for you.”
“Don’t tell him where I am, stupid. Just say you know and you aren’t supposed to tell.”
“Why not? What’s wrong with telling him?”
She sighed. “Just go away!” You would never understand. He’s not looking for me just to know where I am. He wants to know my reaction to what just happened. Don’t worry, Lord Sesshomaru. You will get one. Another voice called out: “Rin!” This time it sounded strangely female.
Her hands clutched at her naked body. “Who’s there?” She snatched her towel from where it had been lying on a low bush and wrapped it around herself just as she heard Jaken leaving, his back turned to give her some privacy.
“It’s me, his sister, Kamari. Don’t you remember?” The demoness suddenly emerged from her hiding place in the bushes. “I saw what happened. He’s still there if you would like to apologize. Or maybe not. I might have something for you that will cheer you up.” She brought out a delicate blossom from her kimono and tucked it behind Rin’s ear. “So, he finally went too far, did he? I knew he would from the way he stared at you. He didn’t mean it, I’m sure. He’ll come to regret it, and perhaps he will forgive you. He may never forgive himself, though.
“Why’s that?”
“Demons do not usually have an obligation to travel with humans, let alone fall in love with them. I have often seen other youkai eating humans for their own health. And yet my brother chooses to make physical contact with you. I wonder if it will continue if you decide to stay. You must decide between staying and leaving; loving and abandoning for his own good. I just hope you’re prepared to do it.”
“Yes, at least, I think so. I have everything I need.”
“I mean emotionally.”
Rin bit her lip to keep a sob locked inside of her. I don’t want to, but I have no choice. He’s too sensitive. We need to be separated. “I want to tell him good bye.”
. . . . . . . . . . . .
“You’re leaving? Ok. I’ll tell him that I’m going with you.”
“You will do no such thing, Jaken. This time it’s forever. I’ve made my decision. Do not tell him where I’m headed, or he will follow me. He probably will end up tracking my scent anyways, the poor guy. I hate leaving.” She gathered her bundle and ran to the edge of the clearing. “Good bye, Jaken. Tell him I said I will always remember him. And tell him I… Oh, never mind.” “I understand if you wish to distance yourself from me.” Rin saw Sesshomaru walking towards her with a hurt countenance. A single tear ran down his cheek and dropped onto the white rose he held in his hand. She couldn’t take it another minute. His desperate tone was enough to bring her to her senses for only a minute. “I should have stayed away. My apologies.” He tucked the rose into her bundle. “Do not come back if you have no desire to do so.”
With a cry, she turned and darted blindly, not having a single clue in which direction, into the forest. He did not follow her.

Mm... well, Sesshoumaru was very OOC. You might want to consider re-working his character a bit more. He's not exactly the most loving person in the world. Hell, he's even worse than Inuyasha when it come to expressing how he feels. Therefore the part where he handed Rin Tenseiga's sheathe was completely unbelieveable. It's something Inuyasha would have done to Kagome. Sesshoumaru just runs off and leaves her under the watchful eye of Jaken. Speaking of the which, Jaken was pretty much in character, so he wasn't too much of a problem.
Even if you were talking about an older Rin, she was still OOC as well. Rin believes in Sesshoumaru's strength with all her heart and soul. Not once had she ever been lead to believe that he'd actually die. Therefore a more appropriate reaction would be, "yes" or a quick nod of her head.
Also, the story's content is a bit cliche. It's difficult for me to count the number of times where I've seen an extra sibling pop out even with all my fingers and toes. Consider finding another kind of character. The overall content of the story is okay, but the appearance of a random sister, Naraku's saimyoushuu, and the suddenness of an encounter really ruined it.
