Much had happened in the past few weeks in the life of the humble mare. Well, perhaps not as much as she had liked. But at least she could help one of her sons with his own little problems.

Yiska had returned to her after his long journey. The icy chill of winter hot on his heels. It was his first winter, but it seemed he still felt a bit...what was the word she was looking for. Anxious? Yes, that sounded right. About being on his own during the snowy times. Eventually he would need to learn to take care of himself, but it made Chu'mana's heart ache to just cast him out on his own when he was not ready nor had he had any experience dealing with snow and ice. Plus with him around she would have the warmth of another while her mate was missing.

Lounging beneath a tree who's leaves had turned brown. Bright green eyes gazed out upon the browning filed in which her son stood. A small happy smile parting her dark lips as she let out a little nicker to him.

It was silly for him to be here. But still, the time of winter sent chills up his spine. Not for the fact that any wind that whipped across the lands but om the sense that he would spend it alone. Scraping for food and warmth wherever he could find it. It just, wasn't the ideal way of living. Perhaps next year.

Although, his siblings had left. They at least had the comfort of others. Not like his mother was something not to be appreciated. He just figured more or less, his brother would probably tease him for sticking around so long. Bah! At least he was being smart!

Giving his curly tail a quick flick back and forth, an ear twisted backwards as the sound of his mother's nicker caught in his ear. His head soon following suit. A smile of appreciation and love spread across his pale face as he began to slowly trot over to where she rested.

Ohh she could feel it, the bitter chill in the air that dappled across her golden flanks and sent waves of child-like eagerness thrumming through her heart--winter was coming hard and fast and the unicorn mare desperately awaited its arrival. Such a blissful time it was, signaling the start of the endless cycle of rebirth that gripped all lands she'd ventured to, even her home up on the jagged peaks of the mountains. The wintery mare was trotting lightly across the terrain, a peal of bells emitting from the gold chain looped around her neck, the saddle slung against her sides seemingly dressing her up in preparation for Jack Frost himself.

Her frozen eyes were quick to pick out the iridescent coils of green wrapped around dark forelegs on both sets of horses, and, mildly tossing her head with surprise and pleasure at having encountered not one but two someones. A warm-hearted nicker of greeting emerged from the normally distant mare as she moved closer, sides expanding lightly from the brief exercise. "It feels lovely out today, doesn't it?" She called shyly, her thicker coat finally proving its use now that the heat of summer was beginning to ebb. "Winter'll be here soon..." Feryal let out a contented sort of sound, having missed the snow and chill of the mountains so terribly as of late. It would be a welcomed change.

Chu'mana had stretched out her neck to touch noses with Yiska. But before she could make contact, a voice broke through the moment. Both ears perked as her head turned to gaze at the gold colored mare. She was a pretty one, with quite an interesting set of markings and accessories.

Nodding her head with a warm smile, she lifted her small body off of the ground so that she could welcome the new comer. "It does beat the heat of summer. Especially for one such as myself who has a dark coat." Her own curly tail gave a few cheery flicks back and forth as she moved slowly towards the stranger. Lowering her head in greeting. A small breeze tousling her equally curly mane, in turn causing the rainbow ribbon nestled tightly behind her ear to flutter. "Shouldn't be too long till the first snow falls. It sounds like you yourself are pretty excited for it. My name is Chu'mana. And this is my son Yiska. And you are?"

Yiska wasn't as fast to approach the new mare as his mother was. Standing back just a few feet, he watched as his mother moved forward. She was always quite open to strangers. Which perhaps he could learn a bit from. Normally it would take the other to gain much interaction from him. But sometimes it was quite the opposite.

Lowering his head when his mother spoke his name. Curly pieces of mane cast a small shadow over his pale face. His ear twitching in quiet contemplation rustled the feathers that were attached to it. His pale green eyes took in everything about her. It was not like he himself had not met interesting looking mares, but this one screamed of the winter yet to come with the little winter scene she had adorned to her. "A pleasure." His voice was a deep rumble in his chest as he lifted his head once again. Regaining his full hight that nearly towered over his own mother.

"I can only imagine." Feryal said sympathetically, a faint smile touching her grey muzzle as she took in the other mare with open, admiring curiosity, from the curled locks of silver that blanketed her ebony neck to the swirling green that spread almost entirely across her hide. And that colorful ribbon tied to one slender ear...simply marvelous. The unicorn found herself rather enchanted by the blend of colors. "I used to dwell in the mountains--I'm afraid I've yet to learn to stop loving the snow." She laughed, bowing her head in polite greeting at their names. "I am Feryal."

It was then that her eyes flickered to the stallion as he was introduced as the Chu'mana's son, drawn to the odd splash of color on his face to what resembled leaves dancing down his strong legs. She was surprised by how low his voice was, for she certainly had not expected it. "For I as well." She replied politely to him, her smile somehow warmer. A mother and son, together to confront the vexing cold of winter...Oh, how her heart longed to somehow be able to take part in such a relationship, but she was patient.

"You must be very proud." She remarked quietly to Chu'mana, bowing her head slightly to smile almost fondly at the ground. It was easy to see where the stallion had gained his striking looks, and together, they made a perfect image of what she'd always imagined a family to be. "Are the winters cruel down this far?" Feryal questioned, having no experience of what to expect in a land that was not usually covered with ice and sleet.

"The mountains? Oh! That must be exciting. I've only watched them from afar, never really had much thought to visiting them. Some say some unsavory characters like to dwell there so I suppose I could just be a big scaredy cat when I think of that." Laughing lightly, she shook her head in amusement. Small wrinkles formed around the corners of her eyes as she laughed. Chu'mana may have looked young, but she herself was still getting up there in age. But that was besides the point. Just because the outside aged didn't change the fact that she was still wild spirited inside.

Nodding her head, she glanced back at Yiska for a second. Motioning for him to come forward a bit before her attention turned back to the mare. "That's understandable. Its something you are used to and are comfortable with. Most others like to stick with their comfort zones. But its nice that you took that step to come down from the mountains. I would figure it would get quite lonely after a while."

Another warm expression spread across her face as the mare gave her name. "Feryal. Thats a lovely name." This time, a grin spread across her lips at the mention of her being proud. "Of course. I am proud of all my children. I don't think I would understand why any mother would not be proud of their own. Do you have any children Feryal?"

Her head turned to the side momentarily as she thought. "The winters can be quite trying. But many seem to pull through it just fine. This will be Yiska's first winter as a matter of fact."

Moving a few steps forward as his mother motioned him to, he cast a genuine smile towards the mare, Feryal. Blowing a few strands of hair out of his eyes.

As she mentioned this being his first winter, he bit his bottom lip slightly. Nipping at her tail quietly. "Geez mother. You don't have to run around telling everyone." His voice had gained a quite sheepish tone to it. It was still kind of emberassing to not be ready to face the winter on his own. And her certainly didn't need his own mother spreading it around like great big news. Especially not to any mares. He just...didn't really need that kind of reputation. Besides. Him staying with her wasn't just for him.

Turning his gaze back to Feryal, he gave a curious look. "I would figure winters up in the mountains would be even more fierce than they are down here on the plains and in the forests. Though I've merely traveled along the mountain's base during the summer. So I don't really have any input as to how the winters differ."

"Ohh, I don't suppose I'll ever stop thinking of them as my true home. And I suppose there could be some less than virtuous souls that drift there, but I've never seen them." Feryal chuckled, somehow feeling more at ease with the other mare than she might have with some of the younger ones. "Of course, I never strayed too much and stayed where I knew it was safe..." A wry, almost mischevious look flashed through her eyes, nodding with agreement about comfort zones and the like. "Indeed...Why, I imagine I'd still be up there if my curiosity hadn't gotten the better of me." She laughed.

Her frozen eyes drifted to Yiska as he stepped closer, returning his smile with a small grin of her own before her attention flickered back to Chu'mana. "Ohh, it was. I suppose one grows to deal with loneliness--I only realized it when I met others and saw how they interacted with one another, to trust and even love...but listen to me." She snorted softly with amusement at her daydreams, pricking her ears at the question and statement alike.

"How many other children do you have? I take it they're all either lovely ladies or gentlemen just like you, mm?" She offered the last bit to Yiska with another soft chuckle before giving her head a quiet shake. "No. I hope to, one day, but I've yet to meet one who I'd feel as though I could raise children with." The unicorn smiled fondly at the though, huffing a quiet sigh. "I have patience, and am in no rush, though that does not keep me from hoping."

Chu'mana's words of first winter brought a sparkle to those blue eyes, nickering her amusement as he nipped as though in reprimand to her words. "Who better to tell than a social recluse?" His words too brought her pause, nodding faintly with understanding. "Cold and fierce and hungry...It feels like the mountains wish to swallow you whole. I suppose the heats of summer here took me aback--I'd thought nothing could be quite as cruel as the stinging wind, but I found a new enemy in the sun!" She laughed, tossing her head with a light jingle of chains. "It was a silly question."
