There were two things at the moment that had his heart soaring; not only was his fur thick enough now to cut off most of the biting wind, but Ravii, his beautiful Ravii, was keeping pace at his side as he led her to his- no, there- new home.

And as they reached the crest of the mountain, with the world spread out in a white, perfect blanket beneath them, the black and orange-splattered wolf realized that nothing could make him happier than he was at that moment, with Ravii beside him.

Whining softly in his happiness, he nuzzled her neck, teeth nibbling lightly at her fur. "Welcome home," he murmured, tail wagging furiously behind him. He just hoped she liked it.

Life had changed again for the cream and violet wolfess. It seemed that no matter what she did, no matter how hard she tried, there was always something new lurking upon the horizon. Given, change was life, and it was something she had long since tried to become accustomed to. Thankfully, most of it was change for the better. . . . . But sometimes, sometimes changes wrought a sort of bittersweet pain.

This change was no different.

It had been time for Ravii to let her life in the woodlands go and to discover a new part of herself. The changes that had happened during her meeting with Eros were now but a page of her history. Her two glorious daughters whom she had faught tooth and nail and starvation for were now grown and parted from her side. Mayrii had always been distant and aloof, and Ravii could only hope that her mauve daughter would be blessed with happiness and joy. And Amarii had taken off after a black furred friend of hers, to join a new pack and begin a life of her own.

Oh, it wasn't easy to say good bye but a fond farewell didn't always mean forever. Though she wouldn't be so readily available to be near her daughters sides, the loneliness and new adjustment of living without them was replaced by something greater.

Though her daughters could never be replaced, there was a new love blossoming within her heart and a new life ahead of her. Sometimes it scared her to think about putting so much trust and faith in to Occam. Though Eros was nothing more than a nightmare of her past, sometimes her heart and confidence wavered. . . . But Occam, despite being covered in hearts, was far from being anything like the red furred playboy.

He had invested time with her, had taken care of her and her pups, and had now invited her away with him. Where Eros had failed, the black and red-furred male had succeeded and given her more than she could have asked for. Somehow, the wraith she had met on that fateful foggy evening had become something much more real than she could have ever hoped for or imagined.

It had scared her to admit her love for him. . . But he loved her, didn't he? He had to. And unlike Eros, this truly could be no joke.

So it was with a bittersweet heart she ran with the black and red male before her. How far they had run, Ravii had long since lost track. Her coat was already thickening thanks to winter's fast approach, and the snow covered mountains were already laced in snow. It was beautiful, truly it was. She remembered mountains from her puphood, but had never seen them like this. . . .

As she made her way to the crest of the mountain, Ravii's throat tightened and her breath hitched. So this was her beautiful new home, was it? Home. . . . . . For a long time home had been no where in particular, a place made up of dreams. Then, for awhile, home had been in a den with two loving daughters snuggled up close to her side. And now. . . . .

"This really is home, isn't it?" She whispered, deep blue eyes lighting with her joy. She glanced over at the dark furred male beside her, her own tail wagging faster and faster behind her. This snow white world was unlike anything she'd ever seen. . . .

And to think she got to share it with her beloved Occam. Tearing her gaze away from her winter wonderland, she couldn't keep her smile from her features. Burying her face against his neck unabashedly (it had taken a little work to get her to show her affections) she lovingly returned the little licks and nibbles. "I couldn't think of a more beautiful place," she admitted softly, keeping her body close to Occam.

Her daughters were forgotten for the moment, her anxiety over their well being temporarily replaced. She didn't want to spoil the moment with bittersweet tears - she wanted her happiness and love to shine. Within her heart of hearts, Ravii knew she had made the best choice.

Right now, upon the wintered crest, the femme was the luckiest wolf in the world.

"Only if you want it to be, dear Ravii," he murmured, voice gentle. The black and orange male wanted her to know that the choice was hers, though deep down, he knew he would be heart-broken, again, if she decided that she didn't want to live on the cold, unforgiving castle of stone.

He had finally found his place, both with the female at his side, and with the new lord of the mountain, his alpha Aion. The grizzled old male and his over-active son were his family now, and he didn't want to leave them. But if it came down to a choice between following Ravii, or staying here, he wasn't sure which path he would choose. It was a decision that would no doubt tear him apart, and he hoped beyond anything that the Fates would not see fit to toy with his heart again. If they did, he didn't think he would survive it this time.

PostPosted: Thu Dec 06, 2007 10:42 pm

Ah, but the fates were kind to both their hearts. Where Occam feared her decision to stay and what it might do to him, Ravii wasn't sure she could leave the black and orange male for anything. Not even her daughters. . . . Sometimes she didn't want to blink out of fear within that moment he might disappear. . . .

She wasn't blinded by love as she had been with Eros and his deceiving words. What she had with the black and orange wolf before her was something real and genuine. It wasn't lustful, it wasn't built out of deception and selfishness, it was. . . it was something unlike Ravii had ever had before. It was a fragile start of something great, but Ravii was hesitant to believe so deeply again.

She didn't doubt Occam, no, but she did doubt that shadows that lingered in her heart. Somewhere she believed she had been at fault when Eros left - had she not loved strong enough, had she not been devoted enough? Somehow she feared that the same might happen with what she had with Occam . . . . What if he changed his mind on wanting to be with her, just as Eros had? What if decided not to stay. . . ?

Oh, he couldn't - WOULDN'T - do that! No, not to her. . .he was better than that, wasn't he? He had helped care for her and her pups, and Amarii often referred to him as the father in her life. But the poor cream and violet wolf couldn't help but secretly fear. . . .

She wanted to be perfect for her shadow of a companion. Especially since he'd taken her all this way.

"Oh I do, I do," she breathed, practically begging as she kept her face buried within his neck and fur. Finally, she lifted her head and let her cool, blue eyes capture the wolf's gaze before her, giving a soft whine in wistfulness. "It's lovely. . . . " She glanced around, moving a few steps away to give the surroundings a second peek. Tail taip moving back and forth, she whirled around to face Occam, blue eyes light with joy. "Just so long as I get to be with . . . with you."

Her words dropped to a murmur, almost as if she were shy to say such things. And in a way she was. Though she was long over Eros and could almost hate the red and white furred male. . . . His wounds ran deep and occasionally showed face within the femme.

Occam quietly watched the myriad of emotions that played across Ravii's features and through her eyes. He grinned finally, at the wistfullness in her voice, and then his heart melted all over again when she said that she just wanted to be with him. His tail started to steadily wag, happiness infusing his heart.

He felt as light as a feather, and warmed utterly by the love he felt for her. Stepping forward until their noses touched, he murmured, "Believe me, sweet Ravii. Hungry bears couldn't scare me away now. I'm with you now, and forever."

Sure, it sounded corny, but he meant every word of it with all the fierce love in his heart. He wouldn't leave Ravii. Not unless she herself chased him away with fangs bared, and even then, she would be hard pressed to ever truly get rid of him.

"Do you want to explore?"

Ravii didn't understand where she had been so blessed to have received such affections from the male. The black and heart-faced male had been an unusual discovery within her life, but had found a place deeply embedded in her heart fast after meeting. He had been night to her day, a different sort of canine that she had never met before - his trials and tribulations, though even now they alluded her knowledge, were many, and she had found a wolf with a broken spirit.

Strange how life changed things - her happy optimism and his broken heart had fast traded places. With Eros gone and two puppies to raise, the cream and violet touched female knew that she wouldn't have made it without the quiet resolution and assistance of Occam. The male had taken it upon himself to help her hunt, to make sure she was red, and had been there to attend her every need, albeit in relative secrecy.

Strange how she misplaced love from one heart-coated wolf only to find it had transformed and fallen truly on that of another.

But oh, how she wouldn't have ever changed anything for the world. Even out of Eros' flaw, she had been blessed with two beloved daughters of her own. Two girls that had grown well and strong despite circumstances, and who had finally allowed her to run free with the captor of her heart. Sure, it hadn't been easy to admit her affections for the male, but after all was said and done. . . oh. . . how Ravii was so pleased.

Never had her eyes shone so blue, never had she felt so loved and protected before. Nose to nose, she gazed fondly up at the wolf as he spoke, her breath all but stolen as he spoke. Now an forever. . . . . And deep down, she knew his words were true. He had given her so much and been so kind and sweet, she couldn't possibly believe his words to not be so.

A small whimper emitted from her throat, and she offered him an affectionate kiss on his muzzle as she grudgingly broke away. "I would be thrilled to explore, my love. This is our new home, and I would most certainly love to get acquainted." Rounding one final time, she shoved herself affectionately underneath his muzzles, rubbing against his chest if only to enjoy his touch and scent before trotting a few paces away.

Now. . where to begin such a tour. . . ?

Grinning, he danced around in a quick circle, then glanced up at the summit of the mountain stretching out above and behind them. The trees started to thin out at this altitude, and the ones that remained where enormous, ancient sentinels that had stood against time in a crown around the mountain's top.

He could just see the slight darkness of the mouth of the den, still so very high up. Taking one last look at the world spread out, so small and still beneath them, he smiled at Ravii, then led her around their new home.

~~~~~
"Aion and his son, Petbe, are out wandering the perimeter of the territory. They should be back in a few days," Occam murmured, licking the blood from his muzzle and paws. After showing Ravii around, he had taken her back to the base of the mountain where he flushed a pair of fat rabbits from their warren. Now he lay stretched out beside the femme on a patch of ground bare of snow, staring at the distant horizon as it started to glow orange through the trees.
Turning his head only slightly, he watched as Ravii ate, not even noticing the lazy, happy grin spreading across his jaws. It was still hard to believe that the purple stained femme was even there, let alone with him.
Had the Fates finally had enough of ruining his life?
It seemed so . . .
PostPosted: Sun Jan 20, 2008 7:01 pm
Ravii listened while she ate, ripping in to the rabbits with a fierceness that surprised even her. She hadn't realized how hungry she'd been until the two rabbits had been fetched, and she would have thanked Occam properly had her stomach nodded demand she focus on ingesting the rabbits right this moment! Still, despite her feast - her first meal within her new home and territory - the cream and lavender femme kept her ears perked. She listened to what Occam had to say, and did her best to make note of names.
Aion and Petbe. . . . The wolfess had captured their scent upon arrival on the territory, and though she knew she would recognize them through smell, she couldn't help but wonder what they looked like. One was obviously old enough to be a father, but the son? Was he aged too or perhaps young and spritely? Were they wolves dusted only in snow, or perhaps they were stained dark in night, like Occam. Blue eyes sparkeled in delight as she imagined the pair while she ate, coming up with her own splashes of colour as her imagination was set free.
Logic told her she could ask - but what fun would that be!?
Finishing up the rabbit, Ravii allowed her tongue to sneak out and wipe away the blood from her stained muzzle. Coyly her blue gaze settled directly upon the wolf before her, and naturally her expression lightened, her violet stained tail tip wagging gently behind her. Though she missed her daughters, she had someone new in her life. . . someone who would be there forever should she be so lucky.
Never again would she be alone. Not only did she have the protection and love from her most beloved, but now she was in a pack. Or. . . well. . would be. She'd have to meet this Aion and his son, and it occurred to her that there was a chance they might not be so agreeable with Occam's choice. It was obvious they approved of her mate - that was what they were now, wasn't it? Or at least her beloved friend - but would they be so receptive to her presence within the pack? Her gaze darkened slightly, her smile suddenly falling in to a neutral, almost gave expression. Her ears twitched, and she dipped her head, suddenly unsure.
"Do you think they'll . . . they'll approve of me?" She questioned softly, the cogs of her mind working. "I haven't been in a real pack since. . . well. . . since ever." She finally admitted the source of her concern and her sudden unease. Yes, she had raised two pups, but besides Occam's frequent visits it was just them. And the small family wasn't so much a pack as it was a mother and two daughters - there were no others to contend with, no rules save her own. And now that she was with Occam, there would be others to rule above her.
No, it wasn't a problem for her - she wasn't a proud female, and she certainly wasn't aggressively dominant. But it would be a change to suddenly find others in her life. It was a change she'd wanted since she'd been a puppy, to have a pack and family all her own. . . but now that she was here, now that she had Occam in her life and a pack to call her own, it felt . . . different.
It wasn't a bad sort of different, but it was a change she'd have to adjust to. After so many years of being on her own, the wolfess suddenly wasn't sure what to expect. And it almost scared her.
When Ravii looked at him, Occam melted all over again. The way her features softened and brightened at simply looking upon him made the broken hearted male soar with love.
But as he watched her, the brightness dimmed. He could almost hear the inner workings of her brain moving, assessing things. At her question, his ears flickered back briefly, before shooting forward again. He crawled closer, until he could clean her muzzle and lick her ears.
"They have no reason not to, my love. Petbe will probably wiggle right out of his fur in excitement, and Aion is a kind old coot. Livia though . . . "
Occam frowned, pondering. He wasn't even sure about the situation with Livia. She was just . . . there. Not in the pack, yet not chased off the lands. Blinking, he looked back at Ravii, smiling softly.
"Are you worried?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 20, 2008 7:43 pm
There was comfort in the touch of the male wolf, and it allowed Ravii to breathe a little easier. Her concern that had twisted her stomach and planted a seed of anxiety was almost forgotten, and her tail tip wagged a bit faster. Offering the softest of whines, she crawled just a little forward upon her belly so as to be easier to reach. She tangled her paws within his own, taking comfort in his close proximity, wondering about this Livia. . . .
Petbe sounded sweet, from what Occam had told her about the wolf, but that still didn't mean much of anything. That wasn't a guarantee, and the cream wolfess knew that the only way she'd truly be accepted was to meet the alpha first hand. Ah, but she shouldn't worry. . . . She had nothing to hide, and it wasn't as if she were a complete stranger. No, Occam could vouch for her - still. . .
It had been a long time since she'd been in a pack. So long she could remember no life besides being on her own. Somewhere she remembered a den, she remembered a family, but she also remembered a flood. . . near drowning. . . cold. That was the root of her beginnings, and if she had family she knew they had long since forgotten about her. So what was the life of a pack member like?
"I . . . " She hesitated, unsure what to say. Reaching up, she nuzzled the dark furred male and gave a small sigh in defeat. Ears pinned, the wolfess gave a small nod, ". . . yes. I am. It's been so long that I've dealt with others besides my own pups that. . . well. . . . I fear I may have little to contribute." She could hunt, but she'd never hunted in the slopes. She was fast, but not the fastest, nor the strongest or brightest female in the world. And though Occam might vouch for her ability to survive on her own, deep in her heart she knew she hadn't been able to properly care for her pups and it was only through him and his sacrifices to her, Amarii and Mayrii that the little family had managed to survive.
He started nibbling on her ears, then nudged her once with his muzzle. "No one will fault you for never being in a pack. And we are a pack that has barely started, so we all have little to contribute at first. We are all getting to know each other, and we will all need to learn how to work together."
Smiling, he nodded, almost to himself. "You aren't alone in this, love."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 20, 2008 8:25 pm
It made sense. Thankfully, for better or worse, it was true that the pack wasn't readily established. It was new, it was young, and that at least saved her from the humiliation of being picked upon by more seasoned or aggressive members. But despite his kind words, the anxiety didn't quite wane, even if it had been temporarily displaced. She was here now, and had Occam. . . . even if she knew none, she had him, and all would be well.
For once in her life, she truly could believe that she wasn't alone. For once she could look around and find that the black and heart-stained wolf was indeed beside her. Unlike Eros, he wouldn't leave - or so she was trying so very hard to believe! Unlike her first mistake, Occam's loyalties remained true. And even if her worst fears were realized, even if this Aion and Petbe thought little of her, it didn't matter. . . .
She had children, her two pups back within the lowlands. And, most importantly, she had a black wolf named Occam. He had mended her broken heart without fear of consequence; he had loved her when no one else had been present, and she knew that she was indeed the luckiest female within the world. Did he know how much she adored him. . . .?
Had she uttered such words recently? Shyness often kept her mute, but she knew she had to learn to get over her fears. He wouldn't laugh at her, he wouldn't disregard her affections or misplace them so purposely. He WASN'T Eros. . . . .
He was hers.
"You're right, you're right," she murmured, reaching up to lick affectionately at his muzzle. "I'm being silly," she quietly murmured, doing her best to forget her earlier inhibitions. "No matter though, darling - I have you. And regardless of what the future brings, that's the only thing that matters to me."
Feeling practically giddy, Occam wiggled until he was stretched out beside her again, his tail resting over hers. He lay his head over her back, hoping to keep her warm. Being in this cold place had its perks; he could snuggle next to Ravii as often as he wanted under the pretense of making sure she was warm.
How he loved this wolf.
As soon as he thought it, he wondered if he had ever told her aloud. Lifting his muzzle, he whispered in her ear, filling his words and his voice with as much love as he possibly could.
"Ravii, my heart . . . my soul. I will follow you to the ends of the earth. You complete me. You've made me see that not everything in this world is cold and cruel, but that warmth and love still exist. Ravii . . . I love you."
Carried by his words, he moved again, laying in front of her so that he could stare into those beautiful eyes, like the most beautiful crystals, and touch his nose to hers. "I love you. Will . . . will you . . . " he seemed to pause, and if he could blush, he would have. Clearing his throat, he shifted nervously and his words tumbled out in a rush. "Will you share a family with me?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 20, 2008 9:02 pm
If she could have melted, she very well might have. Cuddled close, underneath the black male, the young lady had never felt so adored. Even though sometimes, every now and then, she had her doubts - baggage carried over from the disaster with Eros, surely, how could she not believe? Through the worst time of her life, while the world had upset her and abandoned her to its neglect, she had found purpose from two puppies, and a shadowed figure she'd met in the mist. It amazed her how the male had become so important to her and how quickly it had happened!
Since she had met him at the lakes edge, he had touched her life. He had been kind and she had been able to ease, at the very least, a night of his pain. Though she couldn't have known it then, she had given him her heart. He was to become more than just a mere friend, more than an acquaintance, and while Eros had thrown her for a loop, it was Occam who was considered the father to her pups.
She knew that he cared, but it scared her to love so deeply. He wouldn't hurt her, not intentionally, but the irrational uncertain still whispered doubt. But thankfully, for now, such fears were brushed aside as he spoke. Her ears twitched, turning to make sure she caught every nuance of ever word. Her throat tightened, a surge of adoring emotion causing her to go breathless. . . .
How did he expect her to respond to such adoration? To be so loved, to be so well thought of, it was almost too much for her to be able to bear. Whining softly, she could hardly find the words to speak. "Oh Occam I . . . " Her words were hardly audible, and she tried hard to find the vocabulary to best sum up the feelings within her. "I love - - I love you so much, I . . . I don't know what might have happened had I not met you. I am too lucky, too blessed. . .I don't deserve such love, and yet I couldn't imagine living with out it. Without you. " As he moved, she moved too, scrambling forwards to throw herself against him, burying her face within the thick ruff around his neck. As if being apart might be fatal, as if she couldn't live without his touch.
And in a way, she couldn't. To be apart was something she wished not, as if he might run away on a moments notice. And then, only then with herself buried close to him, did she understand his last words. . .
A family?
With her?
Gasping, blue eyes going wide, she stared up at him. Was he serious? Was that truly something he wished? A family. . . . did he mean. . .could he mean. . . . puppies? Did he desire such a thing? ". . . . . you - you w-w-wouldn't leave if such was the case?" The words slipped out before she had time to think, and she quickly averted her gaze, abashed and ashamed to place him on such a level as Eros.
But it couldn't be helped. She had feared to admit her love to him before, and only now was getting over such a fear. But puppies. . . Pregnancy was what had scared off her past love, or what she had thought was her love. And deep down, it had struck deep. As muc has she wanted a family with Occam, she feared his reaction - what if she did wind up pregnant again? Right now he asked it. . . or at least hoped for it. . . .
Could he mean it? Oh, he was her world, and she wouldn't leave him for anything. "You know I would," she finally admitted, voice soft but ever adoring hoping upon hope he might forgive her slight.
Occam hadn't given any thought to that flea bitten Eros, but at her question, he flattened his ears to his skull as memories of how torn up Ravii had been because of that mongrel returned to him.
"I love you Ravii. I want us to have a family. That means puppies," he added with a chuckle, assuaging her worries with adoring licks and nuzzles to her purple stained fur. "I would never leave . . . You're stuck with me, love. For as long as you want me, and then some."
He pulled back enough to look her in the eye, a worry of his own gnawing it him. Did she even want puppies? Would the memories Eros had left with Ravii keep her from wanting puppies ever again? If that bag of bones and matted fur had hurt his Ravii that much, he would hunt him down and make him pay. "Do . . . Do you want puppies with me, Ravii?" he asked quietly, hoping she knew that she had a choice. If she wasn't ready . . . Even if she never would be, he wouldn't love her any less.
