Maury Yeston's musical Phantom was performed in 2004 by the Cosmos Troupe of the Takarazuka Revue, a Japanese all-female musical theatre troupe. Youka Wao played Erik and Mari Hanafusa played Christine.

It was also performed in 2006 by the Flower Troupe and starred Sumire Haruno and Ayane Sakurano.

If you've never heard of this version I think it is just amazing, particularly the Cosmos version. Wao is one of my new favorite Phantoms. She has such a great voice. I really like her mask, too. xD

I didn't get to see it live, unfortunately. But that's what we have YouTube for.

Home The duet Christine and Erik sing when Christine first arrives at the Opera.
You Are Music Another beautiful duet between Christine and Erik.
You Are Music The Flower Troupe version.
Christine's Debut Christine gets her time to shine and shows up Carlotta.

Here, have some posters.[x][x][x][x][x]

Tell me what you think of this version of Phantom pl0x.

Look at them squirm like worms in mud,
Blaming a ghost who's flesh and blood.
Crossing the line, tossing the dice,
Making decisions and paying the price.

Wow. O_O They picked EXACTLY the right ranges for those people... at first I couldn't tell Erik was female (or, shall we say, Erika) until I looked at her up close! Oh how I now wish I were a contralto, so I could play FEMALE ERIK at laaaaaast!

...The most astonishing thing about this production is definitely the ranges.

If I were really a ghost, my dear,
I'd find a better Hell than here!

Hallo, Arsenic! mrgreen

Wao Youka's Phantom proved that even cross-dressing Japanese women are not exempt from attracting rabid phangirls.

I love that woman so.

Hey Arsenic, Phanatica mentioned you:
Quote:

Something amazing happened. English-speaking phans tracked down YouTube videos, photographs and even the full cast recording of Youka as the Phantom... and fell in love. Even the most stalwartly heterosexual of female phans have confessed to being "a little bit gay" for Wao Youka.
