My daughter was due by ultrasound prediction on August 8th. The Wednesday she was due passed and I hadn't gone into labor yet. That weekend, I began to experience a lack of movement from the baby. I checked in to the hospital on Friday and they kept me overnight. I was being monitored to make sure the baby's heart was beating okay. The heart beat was fine, and my doctor came in to examine me. She didn't like the lack of movement and was worried my placenta may have been starting to turn. Since I was already post due, and ewas experiencing these problems, she requested an induction. I was sent back home and was due back on Sunday for more monitoring, and again on Monday for the induction.
My husband Shawn was with me the whole time, my Aunt Palmina was once again present and helping with everything (she is a maternity ward nurse at the hospital I gave birth at both times)
I refused the epidural and stuck to my guns. I had it the first time when I gave birth to Dominic and it actually left a bad "feeling" in my lower back where it went in. Sometimes I feel some pain from it and am afraid it gave me some nerve damage. I did NOT want to risk making it worse. So no epidural the whole way through.
Obviously it was a very different feeling from the last time. Supposedly induced labor gives stronger contractions, and since there was no epidural this time, the pain was very intense. Labor lasted 7 hours and 13 minuets.
My daughter was born on August 13th, 2007, at 4:43PM, at 7 pounds and 10 ounces, 20 inches long. We named her Roxane.
We had a great recovery and all went back home together about 2 days and a half later.
Here's some pictures, our first son, Dominic, is in some of them, who's now 20 months old.
