Having lost one of her sons on the move and then having lost the faith of Adolfo and Wazaam from earlier in their lives. Kattana was walking by herself in the new pack's territory that her family had joined. Head low as any omega, the lone female felt like that was the rank she truly deserved.

Thinking about the happy times that she had had in the den that Rome had secured in Bear land. It almost seemed as distant and her own happy life from youth. Never was she pleased with the way things went, and lately the black and tan femme had been restless.

With a sorrowful sigh, she collapsed down next to the water's edge on the shore. Her children were almost adolescents and she rarely saw any of her four remaining pups. A tear rolled down the femme's cheek. Oh, she hoped against hoped that no one would find her in this state.

The failure rate in her soul was just so high right now it was almost deadly. The sad gold eyes that looked back towards Kattana in the water were bitter and dreadful. The three year old wolf was still young, but she had already lived through so much.

That lynx dragging Rome away in the Arctic pack, then the war that broke out, Rome chasing her off before getting ambushed. Algoma telling her that everyone was dead but just the three of them, after all the lynx had fought with Rome in that time. Then the search that had came in hearing he was alive again after almost 6 months of loss. After all that life had picked up again and everything was good, up to the point that her sons thought she favored her daughters and became a lair.

Another tear rolled down the long snout. FAILURE! That is all you are good at Kattana! she told herself with a bitter tone in her mind. Dipping her nose into the cool sea water, her eyes slid closed and she just laid there for a bit. The water moved out from under her nose in the undertow of the sea and then sometime almost splashing right up into the deep mask of the she-wolf's face.

Alas had been digging up the sand down near the cliffs in search of the shelled creatures that she so enjoyed eating, one she had figured out how to get them out of their shells. She was manging to get quite a little cache of the creatures when she spotted something black and tan down the shore.

For a moment Alas feared she had spotted it too late, what if it was dead? She ran down and skidded in the sand moving to push the muzzle out of the water.

Kattana kept snorting out the water whenever it recessed but then again would inhale the bitter salt water when it came into her nostrils. The black and tan female just was laying there, but something lifted her muzzle out of the nonjudgmental water.

Blinking her eyes open, Kattana squinted up towards something bright and pink. Blue eyes that seemed concerned made the mother of five shrink back. "Don't," was all she said.

If life was to end for her, it wouldn't be just yet, the femme knew that by heart. Though the thought of this 'suicide attempt' getting back to Rome or her offspring might make them never leave her be...well at least Rome. He sons hated her more then their father, or so she believed and her daughters were under their father's paws all the time. Kattana had served her time. She had given Rome three...er...two healthy sons and two daughters.

Whatever happened to Anaru, Kattana would find out in her next life and there she would be able to watch over her offspring better. Maybe be a better mother in death then in this awful life.

Alas quickly grabbed the she wolf by the scuff of her neck and yanked her out of the water with a frown.
"Whats the matter with you!? You can drown like that!" She huffed and gently licked the she wolfs nose clear of salt water before nudging her muzzle.

She blinked at the scent and sniffed again. "Your the mother that joined...with her mate and pups? I met one of your sons the other day..."
Alas wondered why this mother and mate was so deeply depressed and laying here as if ready to die. She had everything going for her a family and yet...what was wrong?

Instantly Alas mind traveled to the source of the pack's problems, The lynx!

Kattana looked at the pink and white laced wolf, once her neck was free, and wrinkled her nose at the licking of it's tip. The older female was generally a kindhearted soul, but right now she felt numb to everything!

"It only drowns you if your aware of the water," Kattana tried to state, though even to her the words were completely insane. Who would have thought that a year and a half ago this beaten loner was as hyper and carefree as her daughters now.

However, the mention of this female meeting one of her nearly teenage sons, perked the sopping wet ears up. "I'm going to assume Wazaam, for his brother seems to be training in stealth attacks." She was proud of her sons. They had came a long way and having only lost one pup on the travel over, it was good to still hear of them doing well.

Resting her head on her paws, Kattana looked back up to the healer, "And yes, I am one of the mothers to recently join. I heard there was another family entering the pack as well," the black and tan wolfess was speaking in a weak tone, and one that was slightly raspy from the salt intake in her throat.

Alas gently nudged her side and shook off with a huff. This poor mother needed to get out of the cold and dry off, not to mention have something for her throat. She didn't like to see what should ahve been a healthy, happy packmember laying out here like this.

"Aware or not you'll drown, don't be foolish..." She huffed before her tone softened and she nodded.

"Yes Wazzaam, the orange one. He's growing up rather well, but I was concerned over the lack of time he had with his family...you should really all spend more time together, especially within the pack."

She gently nosed Kattana again and licked her muzzle. "Come along, you need something for your throat or you'll get sick."

The golden orbs scanned the other with odd skeptics. Being friendly was Kattana's thing, wanting only the best for her babies and mate was second nature, but how could a lying mother be so optimistic. Yes, she had heard that Wazaam and Adolfo looked at her with hate at times, more so then with love. She had wonderful actors as offspring, must have got that trait from Rome, she thought. She had to be the world's worst mother and with all that training her mother had given her, she was just an utter disgrace.

A long and low huff snorted more salty water out of the black snout, Kattana looked at this strange pack mate. It had been too long since actually working with another besides Rome, and hearing this pink wolf telling her about Wazaam didn't help the dark mood.

"I would spend more time with my children, but it seems that Wazaam and Adolfo despise me more then rancid meat! And as for packs, the last pack I was in..." she cut herself off with a growl, this young female didn't know anything about her or the way that life had been handed to her pups. Would they be better off left with Rome in this pack to live under that teenage "mother" Twist. The lip curled up over one fang, but dropped quickly, fighting was not her strong point and the dark she-wolf knew that.

The words 'get sick' oi, that was all she needed to do. Explain to her mate why she sounded so horrible and why her strength was ones again drained with the very life in her. The dull eyes hid behind the black lids, then slowly Kattana got to her feet.

"I'm sorry, I'm not normally a mean wolf. Or for that matter one to stick my nose in the cold sea water. Just life isn't doing what it should be." was all her explanation held. "I'm Kattana, by the way."

"I'm Alas...the pack healer...and it's alright." Alas glanced at the female before her and gently nosed her, sometimes the best remedy was just another touch, to show you that you were alive.
"Life...it's hard, things in the pack..." She shrugged and held back, Kattana could be an enemy, or a friend. Alas wanted to trust the sad looking mother.

"Somethings going wrong in the pack, pups against their own parents, that lynx keeping prisoners...its all wrong." She sighed and moved to lead Kattana down to a shallow pool of freshwater deeper in the trees within a small clearing.

Alas dug into a shallow hole at the base of a tree and scattered some roots and leaves. With a carefull sniff she picked one and walked over to Kattana.

"Chew this and then drink up some water, it'll clear out the salt...and everything else. Ignore the bitter taste." She sat down beside the she wolf and watched her wondering if she had been right to trust her with her opinion.

The nudging was abit comforting, but looking at the other...Alas, Kattana's ears flickered about. "Don't I know that definition to a 't'." she muttered as the pink hued she-wolf talked.

However the moment that Alas continued after her hesitation, Kattana's head tilted to one side. "Lynx keeping a prisoner?" the tone was skeptical and then again calculative even with the raspy-ness. The pups turning against their mother wasn't a surprise. In fact after the first meeting with Twist, Kattana didn't like the young 'alpha' at all.

"The lynx, it wouldn't happen to be a flower freckled ivory blood lusting pest would it?" Why would Algoma come down off her high horse in the mountains? What besides the detestable wolves that reined here, the best reason for the lynx to stay in the snowy bloody mountains, bring her here? Kattana might have depression and could be slow, but she wasn't stupid, and hearing about the lynx made her blood run hot.

Following the healer down to a shallow pool, she looked at the root that was set aside. Looking at the younger female, the dark lone mate wondered if this wolf was of higher rank then entry level to most packs.

"Are you the Beta? If not then this pack is messed up, or there has to be someone with a greater healing skill then yours." Kattana stated and did as the wolfess stated. Maybe, maybe, she would be able to bring her family together. It would be good to see them all growing up and hear about their experiences in the pack so far... that was before she did a disappearing act if Algoma was around, maybe the lynx would help her out one last time. Just out of the mutual hatred the two shared for one another.

Alas frowned and nodded slowly warry of Kattana, if she knew Algoma then maybe she was in league with her.

"Yes...thats the one." She growled softly. "She's been making trouble for the pack, but theres something else too, some reason that everyone is...turning on each other. It's like were all fodder for something." She sighed and looked at Kattana once more.

"I'm sorry I know it sounds crazy, but..." As she heard the question Alas frowned and shook her head.
"No...Twist likes having a puppy as a Beta...I told her it would be better to put someone with more experience, but she won't listen. She's young and she needs encouragment."

Alas watched the mother carefully, she felt sorry for her, being caught up in all this grief. She wished she could make things right for the female, but the only advice she could give made her feel like a traitor Take your family and leave, before it gets worse. Alas would never say the words outloud nor would she heed the advice that echoed in her head.

"There are no other healers in the pack...I wish I could learn form someone with more skill. I have found no shamans near, they would know better then I, but I try." She hoped Kattana didn't doubt her, Alas had tested just about every remedy she knew on herself from the time she was a pup.

Listening to Alas as Kattana chewed the root and drank from the fresh water, the dead gold eyes seemed to spark. Confirmation that Algoma was in the area, though with her plot, wasn't a good thing. The mother instinctively wanted to go find her pups and make sure they were not in any danger with that feline near by. It took a fool not to know the lynx's hatred for wolves and their offspring.

"If Algoma is any where nearby, your assumption maybe correct. That lynx is vile to the very core of her dead heart," the dark female growled lowly and looked at Alas. "I know Algoma from in the mountains where my last pack had lived, she wasn't well liked and our alphas, before they fell ill, banned her from the lands. That feline is one that you don't want to turn your back on, otherwise she may be playing with you exposed spine before you know it."

A very deep frown crossed the dark maw, a PUPPY, a little unseasoned pup was the beta! Kattana shook her head sorrowfully. "This pack is very poorly set up. Though I've never been more then a gamma in a pack, my old one at least has an adult in the beta slot and of course my old alphas were wise as well."

Kattana sighed, "Youth is one thing, but once you're in charge of others, you lose it. Being an alpha isn't for everyone and...." she hesitated, "I don't know if I like being here. I only agreed to join because Wazaam seemed so attached to that...grrr...our alpha." Yes, contrary to popular believes Kattana did have a mind and even though she was going to break her family's hearts, maybe. The idea of still leaving was high on her list this land had no good feeling to it.

Being dragged out of her rollercoaster of a mind, the sound of doubt filled in Alas' voice made the older female give a reassuring smile. "For being the only healer in this pack. I wish you luck and I give you my sympathy. For that means you have a major tie in the members and you won't be able to leave easily."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 08, 2007 11:49 am

As Alas felt her suspicions slowly click into place she felt as well her heart sink, she had not wanted to voice her thought, but in Kattana she had found one who was too kind to suffer this fate.

"What I have to say, may sound...traitorous. It sounds wrong even to my own ears, but I fear that Algoma and Twist are working together. Manipulating the pack for some scheme of theirs." She watched Kattana uncertain if her trust had been placed correctly, she hoped so. Alas looked at the poor mother and wished she could do more to help, she could heal the body in many ways, but never had her skills allowed her to mend a mind or heart.

"I would tell you to take your family and get away before it's too late, but I fear for your son that point has passed." She looked down sadly at the memory of the cold cruel eyes in the face of what should have been an innocent untainted pup.

The golden orbs moved over the other's bright face, the older female could tell that this pink healer had both a good heart and mind. Listening to the words that came from Alas, Kattana couldn't help but give a soft pained smile.

"It's only traitorous talk if you speak to someone like my son. Someone that plans on staying here for a while," Kattana muttered, but then spoke more clearly, "IF Algoma is working with your alpha, I hate to tell you this, then she has just as dark of a soul as the feline. Knowing that wretched creature, she only aligns herself with those that are craving massive power."

The black ears flickered about, if someone in the pack heard this conversation both females were as good as dead. Though Rome would help her until his death, that was why she had to leave. Give her family hope where she clouded the sun in her dark depression.

"You're probably right about Waz, he, sadly to say, was the most gullible of my offspring. My girls are a bit rambunctious and to proud to do anything besides what their father encourages. My other son, Adolfo, however, just likes to stick in the shadows and is close to Wazaam." Looking down and out to the sea, Kattana hated what she was about to say.

"I'm thinking of leaving this pack; I don't know what Rome, my mate, will say, but if I can't get atleast my daughters to leave...He will have to stay." The gold eyes shifted back up towards Alas, "This land isn't friendly and if your right, I would say for you to heed your own words and leave, that is if you have somewhere else to go."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 08, 2007 1:28 pm

Alas moved closer to the other female and gently licked her muzzle. "You must take care of yourself, not just your body, but your mind. You cannot loose hope even when everything seems to be going wrong."

She sighed and looked around paranoid as ever. "Go, and try and take as much of your family as you can. I...I must stay, I have a place to go, but things here arent settled for me, if I can still help to fix things...I must stay."

She turned and looked at Kattana smiling softly. "If you ever need me for anything, I will always be willing to give you my aid. You don't deserve what's happened to make you feel so bad."

Alas felt her mind calm, for in Kattana she had found a true innocent and while there was still one pure heart she had hope that the others could be helped.

Kattana looked at the most friendliest wolf she had came across since leaving the mountains. With a soft friendly nuzzle to the other's neck Kattana responded. "Dear Alas, you can only imagine what I've seen in my seasons. I can smell that you're still a young adult, don't take your youth for advantage. I've had alot of hope slip through my paws, but since losing everything that I had ever loved, besides my mate and at least two offspring, I'm lucky to still be here now."

Kattana shook her head solemnly at the healer, "I'll first try and speak with my family. I'm not the best mother, in fact I'm pretty close to those that have abandoned their pups, but whether or not my pups know it. I'll always love them like a mother could."

The thinning dark female turned her head towards the direction of the main pack cliffs. With a shudder the gold eyes looked back at the smiling Alas, "I appreciate the offer, maybe once we both leave this land, we can speak again. However, something doesn't smell right in the air and it isn't the salt."
