Vanilla had her snout in a bush, and her face was rustling to find any kind of berry that she could munch on. The chilly breeze was reminding the female that a new and colder season was fast approaching, and that in itself was scary when she thought about it! Soon all of the berries and plants she loved would vanish, and snow would surround the entire area she called home. Vanilla actually loved the snow, but she hated having to rummage for food! Everything was always hit or miss, and she would have to figure things out when the weather really started getting cold.
After pulling her head from out of the bush, Vanilla shook herself a few times before glancing up at the cloudy sky. The day looked as though it was kinda dreary, but that wouldn't bring her down! With a confident nod, Vanilla moved herself into a light trot, and she was back to bouncing around in her usual and cheery manner.

Telikos had told her to patrol the forest so patrol the forest she would do! It had been quite some time since she'd trotted off on her own anyways and it wouldn't hurt one bit to get out and about again. She had to do something to keep in shape, afterall.
The leaves crunched beneath her hooves as she made her way along the path that had been worn through the forest by larger Soquili. She was making a bit more noise than she should have been... But at least others would know that she was coming and they wouldn't be caught off guard.
Now... As long as she wasn't caught off guard everything would be well.

A crunching nose became very noticeable in Vanilla's ears, and she stopped herself so she could listen in on what was approaching. How strange.. it wasn't THAT loud, but it was apparent enough for the mare to notice. What could that possible mean? Maybe a foal was rummaging around as well? Or maybe.. it was another Usdia! The sound sounded too familiar to her own, and she suddenly became very excited!
Vanilla then darted into a quicker trot, hoping to soon see the source of the noise. Before she could think about who and what was approaching, a white figure appeared in the distance, and its size was very recognizable. The tan mare stopped herself into a slow walk, until finally realizing that another Usdia was in front of her.
"Hello there!" she then called out, while holding a warm grin. She had only met one other Usdia before, so she was honored to finally meet another.

She paused quickly, eyes wide as the sound of a greeting touched her ears. She really should pay more attention to things. How on earth was she ever going to impress Telikos if she kept missing things that were right in front of her?
A smile soon replaced her look of startle as her eyes settled on the other small mare. "Salutations! Are you new this part of the forest?" The other had to be... She'd never seen her before.

... Salu..what?
Vanilla blinked for a moment before catching herself back into a friendly grin. Even though she had no idea to what salutations meant, the other mare seemed friendly enough, so she just assumed the word was also meant to be friendly! "I um.. have always wandered these parts." She then said, with a slight confusion in her voice. "I like to move around everywhere, but I always find wonderful berries in this forest especially."
Vanilla then moved herself a few steps closer to get a better look at the female. She wasn't quite sure what was on her back, but the colors were so pretty, and Vanilla couldn't help but stare! "What is that your wearing? Its very beautiful!" She flicked her tail happily and gleamed at the female. "I'm Vanilla! And I am sorry again if I startled you.. I tend to always get too excited."

"Berries? I haven't had berries in such a long time..." She said wistfully, head tilting slightly to the side. She snapped out of her daze as the other female approached her, questioning her attire.
"It's..." She had never put all that much thought into it before. It was something that had been put on her at one point in time before she'd wandered off and she'd never gone back to have it taken off. "... My armor. It protects my back... And the blanket keeps me warm." That sounded like as good a reason as any to be wearing it.
"I am Chalcedony! It is a pleasure to meet you." She beamed brightly.

Wiggling her body over to the side of Chalcedony, Vanilla continued to examine the pretty saddle for many moments, but the other mare's voice brought her out of her inner-fascination. "Armor? So are you like a warrior and stuff? That would be really neat!" Realizing that a blanket would also be a handy tool for the winter, Vanilla kept her awe in tact, and moved over to face the female again, since for a moment she felt sort of impolite.
"Well, either way, that thing is neat! Maybe I should think about finding one soon." With a slight head bob, she gleamed with happiness and was glad the other female was so friendly. "Its nice, since I don't feel so small talking to you.. usually when I find other horses I can only keep up with the size of their children! Not that I am complaining or anything, but it really is nice to talk to someone of my own size." With lowered eyes, she realized that might have sounded a bit babyish, but it was the truth.

"A warrior?" She shook her head slowly. "No... I don't go out and do battle... I am..." She paused for a moment, thinking of the perfect word to use. "A protector! I protect the various things in the forest." When she could. "And... I'm a guide of sorts. I know my way to almost everywhere and I help people when they're lost!" She had helped Telikos, afterall... And Alysida...
"It is nice." She hadn't really thought of it before even though she was completely dwarfed by Telikos. Tapanga was her size every now and then but the flutter was strange and she didn't spend that much time with her. "I... was starting to think that there wasn't anyone like me roaming around."

Vanilla's eyes widened at the female's new information, and she bounced her head up and down happily before responding. "My, that's even more amazing! You get to help people out, and that's an remarkable thing. I've tried to help others out before, but they didn't seem very interested. Maybe if I become more direction smart.. I'll be able to offer help just as you do." With a hopeful grin, she gleamed at her own revelation and was thankful for the other mare's words. "What other areas have you been to before? Besides the forest and the plains.. I have never really ventured out that much." Now all she wanted to do was explore more!
"No one like you?" She then blurted out, before tilting her head. "Oh my, there are lots of us-sized roaming about. There are lots of shapes and sizes, colors and combinations.. just the other day I met this male pony with bright fireworks on his back! I didn't know what to think, and he had an accent and everything."

"It's such a wonderful feeling to help others... Especially bigger others because then they don't seem to say much about being small." She smiled brightly. "I've been... Everywhere in the forest. Down to the beach once or twice... I know how to get to the mountains but Telikos says I shouldn't wander too close to them by myself..."
She could probably ramble on forever about 'adventures' of one kind or another so it was probably a good thing that the other petite mare changed the subject. "Not one... Telikos is as big as a giant and Lady Alysida is twice my size... This is wonderful! I don't have to tilt my head up too high to see who I'm talking to!"

Vanilla gleamed at the other Usdia's response to her, and she instantly felt comfortable in the situation. FINALLY, someone who was both kind, and fun to talk to! "Telikos? Whos that?" she then asked, before realizing that was sort of pushy. "I don't mean to be so nosey, but I've heard you mention them a lot! Are they a friend of yours?" With a grin, she wiggled her tail and wondered what else the other could share to her.
"Lady Alsida? You must have lots of friends!" Hmm.. Vanilla needed to work on that. She had only met some others before, but she didn't have anybody she could call her friend. Sometimes she wondered if that was weird.. but she tried to shrug it off whenever she could! Negativity wasn't her thing, anyhow. "Are those some of the friends you help?"

"Telikos is... A unicorn. A very large unicorn with a tail like a mountain lion. I was able to help Lady Alysida find him. He isn't hard to miss, afterall and I do know the forest very well." She smiled brightly, her own short tail flickering against her hindquarters. "I know the two of them... And Lady Luck... And Tapanga, who is a strange little flutter-thing. She's smaller than we are!"

Everything the other Usdia said was probably very normal for her, but Vanilla was wide eyed in confusion! "I've never seen any horses like that.. a unicorn or a flutter.. that sounds so cool.." she then said, while her voice trailed. This other Usdia lived a much crazier life then she did! "I'm gonna need to venture out more, so I can meet more individuals. I don't know anyone besides another Usdia." Now she just sounded pathetic!
"So are they like brothers and sisters for you? Or do you have any real siblings as well?" Vanilla then wiggled her tail as she awaited the other female's response.

"Not like brothers and sisters... But very good friends." She nodded slowly. Telikos was, in a strange way, like the 'father' of the 'family'. He was a good strong leader... Of course, that would make Lady Alysia the 'mother' and that seemed... Strange.
"I don't have any real siblings... I always thought it would have been nice to though. What about you? Do you have a family?"

"Well, very good friends can sometimes be better then real family." she then added, while slowly nodding her head. "And no, I don't have any family myself. I just sorta.. do my own thing, I suppose." The thought of having parents seemed nice, but it didn't phase Vanilla since she didn't have any family background.
"So were you supposed to be helping someone out today, or doing an important job? I hope I am not interrupting a solemn duty or something." The mare then crinkled her nose in an embarrassed way, but glanced at the other mare with hopeful eyes. "If you were busy with a task, I understand!" She really was such a terrible liar..
