Noyana had been out all day again, though for now she lounged on a rock in the shade, watching the horizon for some preybeast. Her thoughts, however, were far from the hunt. She wanted nothing more than to find out what had happened to Mat. He kinda... dropped off the face of the planet. Noyana was getting concerned, she had seen the royal family, (to her, this meant Taka's line. Mufasa's was as good as dirt) but Mat wasn't with them. She was conflicted, because no matter where the yellow female looked, he was nowhere to be found. So her thoughts were whether or not she thought he would meander out into the roguelands for any reason whatsoever. So deep in thought she was that she wasn't paying any attention to her surroundings...

Siri loped easily near the borders of the pridelands, her stride long and relaxed. She'd spent the early hours hunting and now her legs and back ached from the strain of stalking and sprinting. She stretched as she ran, her mind not on the failed hunt (where admittedly they SHOULD have been) but rather on her friend, Camulos.

The purple lioness broke down into a trot, paws bringing up faint clouds of dust as they pounded the dry earth. Cam was always so sweet, so caring... but he never really talked about himself. She didn't even know who his parents were, much less where he was from or why he didn't live in the pridelands!

She sighed, head low, eyes focused on something she couldn't see. She wanted to know. To be able to share his problems! The wind drifted through the grass and past her, whispering across her face. Siri breathed in deeply, savoring the scent of the plains --

-- Another lioness! Her head jerked up, ears flickering uncertainly as she searched for the other female. Her blue eyes fell on the lioness's golden form lounging in the shade nearby. For a moment only Siri hesitated.

"... hello?" She called, wary of intruding on the other's private thoughts.

Noyana was pulled out of her thoughts by the sound of a tentative voice. She jerked her head towards the stranger. She wasn't aggrivated, in fact, a second opinion was what she felt she needed, if the other wouldn't mind.

The first thing, though, that jumped out at Noyana about this lioness is that she was... purple. Almost as rare as Noy's bright yellow and lime-green swirly combo. She was glad to see she wasn't the only one out here with a different colored coat. She didn't move other than turning her head, she was already in a pretty good position. "Hi! I haven't seen you around, I don't think. I'm Noyana," she introduced happily, awaiting a response.

The happy greeting was all the invitation the young lioness needed. She slipped into the shade near the yellow and green female, grateful to be out of the blistering sun.

Siri followed the other's green gaze and she grinned impishly. "Yeah, purple. Makes it kinda hard to hunt." She eyes the other's coat and her smile grew wry. "Bet you can blend in well with all that golden grass!" There wasn't any bitterness in her voice though - she'd learn to compensate for her odd coat color. It was just another challenge!

... even if it did leave her with an empty stomach a lot. Maybe she just needed more practice or... something.

"I'm Siri, by the way." She chirped, smiling. "Nice to meet you, Noyana!"

"Nice to meet you too, Siri," Noyana said happily, glad that the lioness wasn't a gold-coat. The odds of her being related to Mufasa were slim, in Noyana's mind, and with that, she was delighted. She hated making friends only to find soon after that they were blood relatives of the traitor.

"Yeah, I hunt pretty easily, the swirls actually help, I think," she added, not in a tone of bragging just as Siri's hadn't been bitter.

"So what're you up to today, Siri?" Noyana asked, always looking for something fun to do.

"Yeah, they DO look like they would help!" She peered at them closely for a moment, then nodded sagely to herself. "Yes." Too bad SHE didn't have any! ... granted, she probably needed more than a few swirls to help her hunt.

"Oh! Um... I was just practicing hunting, for when I get my own family someday!" The lioness beamed at the thought, picturing Ruffian's little ones scrambling all over their den. They were so cute! For now, she could just play with them. But someday...

"What are you doing? You look so lost in thought!"

... hopefully Noyana didn't mind such a question. Siri didn't want another accident like the one with the cheetah!

"I haven't seen a friend of mine in a while, I'm not sure what happened to him. I was wondering if possibly he went out into the roguelands, but I doubt it..." she said, her voice turning into her thoughts again. That would be sooo... un-Mat like. She couldn't picture him meandering out into the roguelands for no reason at all... Unless.... he was tricked...

She shook the thought out of her head, she'd deal with it later. Mat was strong, despite the fact that he had been smaller than her last time she'd seen him. He could handle himself.

"I could go hunting with you, two lionesses are always stronger than one," Noyana said with a twinkle in her eye. Hunting was the lioness' specialty, and she always was willing to teach anyone some tips.

"Oh... I'm sorry! If you want we could look for him!" She hadn't seen any other lions out here recently, but she certainly hadn't ventured far into the roguelands.

"Would you really?" Siri's heart lept at the thought. Maybe she could pick up a few tips from this girl! She seemed like she would know what she was doing. Siri sure as hell didn't. Even after Ruffian had spent so long trying to teach her...

Well, hopefully Cam could hunt well! Maybe he could help out, even if it was technically her job...

"Just so you know, I'm not that great." She grinned wryly.

"Ah, my friend's tough, he can handle himself if he's out there, he can wait for a little bit." Right now, he was asleep in the roguelands, unaware of a danger that lurked out there. Neither he nor Noyana knew this at the time, though, and so she thought a hunt would be much more appropriate. He'd react badly to her coming out to find him (Assuming he was out there) anyway. "That's alright," She said to Siri's warning. "I'm sure we'll do fine. All you gotta do is keep your claws in when you're stalking, and out when you're in the chase. Keep your body low when you're getting close. You in particular, because purple is an unnatural color." At least to her, yellow was close to gold, and on a bright day she fit in almost perfectly.

"Let's just try to find some first," Noyana said as she started off in one direction. She was a pro hunter, she was confident that she could at least teach Siri something

(( Sorry for the short reply! ;; ))

Siri's expression grew serious and she nodded at Noyana's warning. Her claws dug into the soft earth bebeath her feet and then relaxed again. It all made sense... but she already did most of that! Ah well. Maybe Noyana could help her out anyways. She eyed the golden yellow lioness hopefully, ready to do whatever she had to do to learn.

"I know how to identify good prey though! Ruf-- ... a friend taught me how to!" Siri declared, a smile once more spreading across her jaws.

"What should we hunt?"

"That's a good skill to have," Noyana said honestly. "Many have a hard time learning it," She said with a smile and a nod. She started to pad forward, going in no direction in particular until she could pick up the scent of some preybeast. "I think we ought to hunt whatever we run into," she said after not detecting a single scent on the wind. In the meanwhile, a little conversation couldn't hurt. "So what do you think you're worst at?" Noyana hadn't ever taught anyone how to hunt before, but felt she could do something. She kept her voice low so they could both listen for prey over her voice and so the prey wouldn't hear them, if it was nearby.

"Honestly... I think I'm worst at the killing part." She cast a wry, slightly ashamed look towards the grass at her feet. "I mean, I can pick out the prey, I'm fast enough to catch up, but then when it comes to biting and killing... "

She sighed. Man, this was embarrassing! Noya would think she was a real idiot.

"Um, I guess I just always hesitate. I know, I know, the circle of life, but..." Well, that was it. It was hard to take another life, even if it was to protect and continue her own.

"Ah, yes, that can be the most difficult part for many..." Noyana said as they padded along. Noyana hadn't ever had the problem herself, but this wasn't the first lion she'd heard of who had a hard time killing. "I'm not sure what I can tell you that you haven't heard before," Noyana said thoughtfully. "I could tell you that it's for your own survival, but you know that, I'm more than certain. I could tell you that it's nature's way, but you know that too." The yellow lioness shot a glance to the purple one beside her.

"I always just... kind of lose myself. It's not like me to kill another living thing, but... I dunno. Instinct, I guess. Maybe try not thinking about it?" Noyana offered with a little shrug, not really sure of how else to explain it.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 10, 2008 5:09 pm

Siri nodded, acknowledging Noyana's guesses. "Yeah, I know all that. I'm just too weak to do it, I guess." She laughed shortly, rising her shoulders up in a shrug. "So I was hoping maybe if I practiced more, I could get, I dunno... used to it."

After all, she couldn't have a family until she learned how to hunt! It was a rather vital part of the whole system. Cam would be disappointed if he knew all this, she was sure. Siri would prove to him she could be a good huntress!

"I'll... I'll try just not thinking about it." Isn't that what Ruffian had said too? "I normally run on instinct right until I have to kill. Then I see the animal beneath me, and my mind just... well, you know."

Noyana nodded as Siri spoke. What she said made some sense... It was just that Noy'd always heard of that sort of problem with hunting go away in the early hunts someone had. Certainly this wasn't one of her first, could it be? Noyana wouldn't ask, though, she liked to think everyone had started hunting around the same time as her in their lives whether they did or not.

And then a scent crossed her nose. Without thinking Noyana dropped herself down at least a foot until she was below the grassline. They weren't too close yet, but the scent was unmistakable. Antelope. She looked over to the purple lioness and then slowly raised herself, realizing that they weren't anywhere within vision and it would be safe to do so. "You smell that?" Noyana whispered to her hunting partner.
