Walking in his usual and sluggish manner, the stallion shook some hair out of his eyes and trudged through the cold grass. The so called 'Fall and Winter' were apparently approaching, and the stallion wasn't completely sure how he thought about the idea of 'cold'. He didn't like being hot.. and he wasn't sure if cold was better yet. So as usual, he was conflicted with such a stupid future.
Letting himself then yawn, Dante flicked his tail and cringed at a cool breeze. "Stupid weather.. so friggan unpredictable." Everything else in his life was easily predictable, but now this weather was just adding on to his anxieties!
But when he really broke it down, he realized some things in his life were not as hand picked as he thought. The stallion was still alive and walking, and would probably be alive to see snow! Maybe the cold was bringing luck to his ridiculous family timeline? That in itself was crazy when he thought about it.
Shifting his mind on another chilly breeze against his back, he grunted while trudging through a pile of newly fallen leaves. Things were beginning to become unpredictable when he REALLY thought about it.. and he wasn't sure how he thought about that! The only friend who had ever preached a 'going with the flow attitude' to him was a bright and colorful mare.. one who he had not seen in quite some time. Maybe this was her doing? He couldn't tell at this point in time!

It was cold; there was no mistaking that fact. But while some Soquilis might look on that fact as something to be depressed about, Amary chose to look on it as a delightful new adventure. Besides, she had her secret weapon; the mountain hotsprings. If she got cold, she'd simply go boil for a bit, and she'd be good as new! Besides, the minerals were good for her hair.
Though right now, swimming was one of the last things on the brightly colored mare's mind. Taking advantage of the plethora of new-fallen leaves, she was in full filly-caper mode, racing and rolling and wading merrily through the leaves, her mane and tail dotted with those stirred up by her antics. Throwing back her head, the mare laughed merrily, then dove into a big pile, flinging even more of them up into the air.
This season was awesome!

The stallion's ears twitched at a strange noise behind him, and Dante curiously turned his head to examine the quiet area that he had come from. How did he not notice the laughing and leaf crunching before? He really was terrible at paying attention to little noises around him...
Letting out a tired sigh, he sneaked his way through the crunchy leaves, and decided to remain hidden for the moment. Luckily there were trees around him to be used for his own hiding advantage, and until he knew what was behind he, he most certainly didn't want to get caught red handed!
After a few more dodges around trees, the stallion stopped in mid movement, only to recognize a familiar color of pink that was molded against the many yellows and reds of the leaves. Was it seriously.. Amary?!
The stallion decided to watch for a moment, since it didn't seem as though the mare had spotted him yet. Amary looked as though she was off in her own world.. and having a hell of a time! That was definitely the mare he remember, and he smiled while watching the silly mare.

Perhaps it was because she was used to being stared at (and even expected it) that the feeling of be watched was old news. If so, that would certainly explain why for several minutes after Dante started observing, Amary simply carried on as she was doing, kicking and skipping and rolling about like an energetic child.
However, she soon collapsed into a large pile of leaves, breathing hard but beaming happily. This sort of thing was so fun!
Blowing her forelock out of her face, Amary proceded to toss a few more leaves up into the air, then finally lay still, working on getting her breath back. But as she did so, her gaze flicked over to the trees, then grinned. "Gonna come out at some point, or skulk back there forever?" She might not know WHO was back there, but someone certainly was, or she was a ferrt!

Dante backed up instinctively at the female's words, but then realized that he had been found! "It seems you have better eyes then I thought, Amary." Hm.. his voice was so mellow and bland, and he wondered if she would remember him by that alone. Compared to others, he WAS usually pretty boring in speech and motion, and he also tended to be more quiet then others.
Despite his usual inner-processing, he brought himself from behind the tree and made his way to where Amary was resting. "I didn't want to interrupt your fun, you know." He then commented, since he usually did that for others. "But its nice to see you again, Amary." He never thought he'd actually say that to someone, since he didn't even respond like that to his family members! Oh well.. once Dante was satisfied with his pounding thoughts, he brought his eyes back on Amary and grinned. "Nothings changed, has it?" Well.. maybe the weather..

"Well, when you're as used to being admired as I am, you sorta come to know when you're being watched." Winking, Amary rose to her feet, coming up out of the leaves like a forest Soquili version of the birth of Venus. Granted, the leaves weren't quite as accomodating as water, and a few stayed firmly tangled in her mane as she gave the stallion a bright grin of greeting. "And who says you'd be interrupting? Maybe I could have gotten you to join me; nothing says autumn quite as wonderfully as dancing in the leaves!"
That said, she deftly kicked towards Dante, the gesture sending a flurry of leaves his way. "Or at the very least, enjoying them." Hopefully some would get tangled in his mane, or at least make him react somehow. Though she was already pleased by the animation in his expression; just think, an actual grin! "But we can always work on that. In the meantime, it's so nice to see you!"
With that, Amary, in her usual demonstrative way, stepped up to Dante and gave him a lingering nuzzle of greeting. No such thing as personal space or distance here, not when they were already friends! Or even if they weren't friends, she just loved to nuzzle. "I was wondering if I was going to have to hunt you down and get fierce with you for forgetting about me!" Grinning, she nuzzled him once more, then stepped back and gave him a bright wink. "And I dunno...I'd say things have changed a lot! You don't look all pouty and depressed, which is a very GOOD change."

Dante remained quiet and calm as the leaves went past him, and he was unaware that some lazily rested on his ever-falling mane. As usual, he was silent as Amary spoke, since she was better at speaking anyhow.
He was surprised though to see and witness her happy reaction to his visit, and he remained static as she nuzzled him. There were some things he just couldn't get used to, but his biggest step and accomplishment was holding a smile as Amary nuzzled him. "Like I would forget about you." he then mustered, with a raised brow. "That seems highly unlikely, now doesn't it? I don't incorporate myself with others.. ever.." he then mused, while shaking his mane. "You, my family, and another mare are the only friends or whatever that I hold myself with." And with that, he gracefully nodded, feeling more then accomplished in his speech. "But anyways.."
There he went again, being as bland as ever. "Changed? Well, I suppose that is a nice thing to hear. I'm afraid I can't say the same about you, but I don't think anyone would ever want you to change." His words were truthful and punctuated, and if said from another stallion, Amary might have felt them to be worthy of compliment. But, since Dante was so stark in his speech.. the words came out as harshly as a brick. But he meant them well, which was all that mattered in the end!

The fact that Dante didn't react or return the nuzzle or ANYTHING made no difference to Amary; one advantage of having such an exhuberant personality was that she was enthusiastic enough for everyone around. Besides, he was smiling! Honestly, really SMILING! That had to mean that somewhere on an internal level, he'd been affected in a positive way by her advice from last time, and how could she not be delighted with that knowledge?
So she merely stood and beamed at him as he downplayed his own 'social contacts', shaking her head at him by the time he'd finished speaking. "Dante, you ought to know by now that you can know ONE person and still be a total twit and snub them. You remembered, and that's a good thing!"
Laughing, Amary pirouetted again, unable to remain immobile for too long without the need to move taking her over. Besides, she'd been complimented! "And I'm glad you like me the way I am, cause I think I'd suck at being someone else. But I have to say, YOU have changed in a good way, Dante. Just look at that grin!" Giggling, Amary placed a wing tip at each corner of his mouth, then pulled them away in an ostensible measurement. "See? Ear to ear, almost...and you just TRY to tell me you don't like that feeling." And then she'd tell him he was lying, because he WOULD be!

Changed? Was change really such a good thing? From Amary's reaction, the stallion assumed yes.. but was he that bad before? Ah well.. once again he was flooding himself with possibilities, but the stallion quickly shrugged the thoughts off and returned to watching the mare.
"I can't really say that I enjoy this feeling. But I enjoy making other's smile from doing something that is so easy for myself." Ah, wasn't it the truth. Dante realized after speaking, that he sounded awfully blunt... but Amary never seemed to care! "But anyways, what has been going on with you, Amary?"
Walking a few spots passed the mare, Dante adjusted himself in a softer patch of ground, and let his hooves stand in an area that wasn't crunchy and full of leaves. "I see you are enjoying this autumn atmosphere. My sister loves this weather as well. I think it is alright.. but I am personally looking forward to snow."

"Excuses excuses; but it's very flattering to know that you're doing it for my benefit, Dante you charmer." Giving Dante and roguish grin, Amary proceded to blow him a kiss of acknowledgement. Though she had a pretty strong hunch that he'd meant no such thing, she couldn't resist taking advantage of this newfound sense of humor/happiness/whatever the hell it was. Besides, give and take were what life was about. Their last meeting she'd really had to work, she deserved a little playtime as well.
Shuffling at the leaves underfoot, Amary remained silent long enough to hear Dante's question and comments, then dove right in, in the spirit of seizing the day. "Well, I've just been wandering around, mostly; met up with my brother a couple times, done a bit of socializing, taken advantage of these great winds we've been having lately to have some truly epic flights, stuff like that. And of course I'm enjoying it; if I was mopey a whole season, that'd be a total waste of time."
Grinning, Amary gave Dante a playful grin. "Unlike SOME people, I don't like to waste time moping. But since you're not mopey, I guess you really aren't anti-autumn; dunno why you like winter so much, though, as it's all cold and clammy and you're always wet." At that, Amary wrinkled her nose; she wasn't that fond of cold or snow, and had spent most of the previous winter being too cold to truly enjoy herself. Bleh.

With a light shrug, Dante was still reluctant to pay attention to many of Amary's little motions. If anything, he found them as a motive to express high energy.. which was something that Amary did constantly. "I am sure that the word 'charmer' is the farthest thing away from my personality." he then said, with a light head-shake. "I believe that I dwell on the opposite end of that spectrum." And yes, he had no problem with that!
"It sounds like you've been busy, so that's good." With a light head-shake, he brushed some of the hair out of his eyes. "And I am not moping for once.. well, sorta. I am better. I don't mope nearly as much as I used to, thanks to you." He realized how lame that sounded.. "But you did teach me that its ok to spend your time enjoying simple pleasures and emotions.. but moping still makes me happy on cloudy days." With a finishing head-nod, he shuffled his hoof and glanced at the mare once again.
"Winter is beautiful. I can't wait to vanish in the color of the white everywhere.. that's like, and ideal atmosphere for me. I can understand why this bright and beaming leaf-like look fits you. There are so many colors everywhere, and that seems like it would fit your taste." Since for Dante.. clashing was not his thing. Hiding and vanishing was much better!

"A liar as well as a charmer; that's a dangerous combination that bodes badly for whatever unknowing mare crosses your path, Dante. And to think, you've come this far only since our last conversation!"
Laughing, Amary crossed over to stand beside Dante, either unwilling or unable to keep herself isolated for any longer; coming to stand at his side, she proceded to lean comfortably against his side, preferring contact when in conversation to anything else. Being by herself was just so BORING! Or cold, or lonely, or just whatever. Besides, he couldn't see her as feel or notice her gratitude for his continuously flattering words from all the way over here!
The very idea that she was responsible for his lack of moping made Amary puff up a bit with pride, and that showed in her expression. "Aw, really? Well, I'm glad to hear that, cause it means you were paying attention. I like to hear myself talk and I talk a lot, but that DOESN'T mean I don't like to know that the people that I'm talking to are paying attention!" Finishing up that little tongue twister, Amary then proceded to continue on, not really giving Dante a chance to respond without interrupting. "And if it makes you happy, it's not really moping, but you can call it whatever you want."
Moving on, she nodded her head thoughtfully at Dante's breakdown of the seasons, then laughed at his rather frank comment on her fall-favoritism. Colors were great, but she herself didn't stand out NEARLY so well in fall as she did in other seasons when one non-similar color (be it winter white or summer green) were king. "Hey, if we're talking standing out, then winter IS my season, Dante. But while I like standing out, I like being warm and comfortable a lot better. Winter is all wet and cold and I always feel soggy and WHO would find a soggy cold mare attractive, Dante? Hrm? Who? No one, because she'd look depressed and mopey, and that's contagious. So contagious that you're lucky I didn't get all depressed and mopey last time; just think of how boring THAT would have been!"
To punt that point home, Amary went into a dramatically exaggerated impersonation of herself moping; her ears drooped, her mouth drooped, her whole spirt seemed to droop and she adopted an expression of extreme unhappiness. Attractive, indeed!

He still had no idea why she kept referring to him as a charmer, and he continued to plant himself firmly on the ground as she walked over and brushed up next to him. Her movements were beginning to feel less strange, since he was starting to get used to her physical decisions and movements. "Ah well, I'd rather be a liar then a charmer." Since.. males that were 'charming' were so exhausting and stupid.
"I like listening." He then commented, while glancing at a pair of red leaves on the ground. "Plus most people pay attention, don't they? I think it would be really weird to be staring at someone and not listening to anything they are saying." With a pause, he shook his head mildly and glanced back at Amary. "Just kidding, my sister does that all the time. It is very frustrating."
That was what made his sister.. his sister! But anyway, his thought was soon interrupted when Amary was acting out how someone would mope. She looked so funny and he wondered if he looked that funny when he moped! "I think your movements would be more believable if you were actually depressed, so I am sorry but I'm not buying it, Amary. As someone who has moped for years, I can tell you that it is a much more complex thing." His statement was both true, and humorous! That at least felt good to the stallion.
"I don't really understand why being soggy means you are unattractive. Is that really how mares think? I don't understand mares at all.. they find the simplest things unattractive. They must judge males backwards and forwards..but I suppose I have seen males do that too." With a pause, Dante then shook his heas again. "What a twisted world!"

As she wasn't feeling the least bit mopey, it wasn't long before Amary was once again sporting her usual grin, stifcking her tongue out playfully at Dante. "Well, I wouldn't want to be good at moping, anyway; it makes my muzzle hurt, and it's SOOOOO depressing to frown like that! Honestly, I'm surprised you hadn't withered away and died ages ago, frowning like that all the time. But now don't you appreciate what I did for you? You were quite the sight, pouting like a surly child."
She was more teasing than anything, a fact evidenced by her grinning countenance, but there was a kernal of truth in that statement. Being around the depressed made more depressed people, and that was a fact!
"And yes, people DO actually stare vacantly when someone is talking, or even not pay attention at all. It really says something for the stamina of we talkers that we manage, but there you go. I've always prided myself on my stamina, besides." Grinning, Amary nuzzled into Dante's mane, a slight smile on her face as she considered the other aspects of that phrase. Lots of stamina, if she did say so herself!
And a nice segway, considering the soggy topic. After all, she'd already made so much progress with Dante; she just needed to nudge him along a bit more, and he'd see the light completely! Right now, he was close...but in some ways, it was like talking to a foal. A big, handsome, well-built foal...but a foal.
"Well, it works both ways, Dante; trust me, males can be fussy about what they like in a mare, just like mares can be fussy about what they like in a stallion. It's complicated, I'll grant, but it's also VERY simple, in some ways. Seriously, Dante; don't you think I'd look weird if I was all wet and draggled? My beautiful curls all flat and draggled, sticking flat to my head, my wings bogged down...I'd look ridiculous!"

"Frowning isn't that big of an issue when smiling was never enforced in the first place." His words were gloomy, but the stallion shrugged them off casually. "You have to remember that some are just brought up that way, so I always assumed it was how I could and should act. Emotions aren't that important to me.." And they would never be that important to him. At least he didn't find them as a waste of time like he used to, and he was slowly growing on the concept of thoughts and feelings.
It was ironic that Amary was speaking of others listening to her, because at that moment, Dante found himself not listening to her at all! Once again the mare was touching him somehow, and his eyes watched her with utter confusion. Either way, once she was done nuzzling him, he was able to return back on subject for whatever Amary was talking about.
"I still don't understand what the problem is. If your hair is all wet, then it is only enforcing a natural reaction. I was always taught that natural should be beautiful, since it is what we are I guess. So if someone fell in the water or something, I don't think that should steer away from the beauty they have." With a light shake of his hoof, he kicked some leaves off his leg after he spoke, and tilted his head at the mare. "Judgments are ridiculous.. one should never judge someone else's worth, be it beauty or whatever, on how they look or how they were born.."
The subject was passionate to him for many reasons, and he rolled his eyes away before sighing to himself. His father was such a b*****d, and he really hated being judged by silly things on his body. He could only imagine what other's went through, and he hoped Amary never dealt with such a fate.
