As for looks and stuff, the car doesn't look bad in my opinion. I mean even though its a Neon and theres no getting around that, its really not all that bad. I wouldn't mind having one, despite the fact thats its a Plymouth. Now when it comes to comparing them to Evo's and STi's I think it has a good chance, not stock, but it has potential. All a srt is, is like a cousin to a Eclipse GSX without the all wheel drive.
But the Eclipse GSX is much slower, isn't it? I know they're quick cars, but let's analyze the hierarchy.
Back in the day when they sold the Eclipse GSX, the next level up in the Mitsubishi line was the 3000GT VR4, which was, while much heavier, quicker because it has the 6G72 3.0 Turbo.
Now, the 3KGT, performance wise, is about identical to my car, stock for stock. So, if the Eclipse GSX and SRT4 are cousins, wouldn't that mean that the Eclipse GSX is just as fast as, if not faster than my car and the 3KGT?
I know that's not true. The GSX, back in '94, was tested by Motor Trend who clocked a 0-60 time of 6.6 seconds. Even if we seriously curve it and say it can do it in 6, it's much slower than a stock 350Z.
So, I don't think they're truly cousins... If that were true, then in theory, the GSX would be faster because it's a coupe, therefore lighter, plus it has AWD.
Also, Car & Driver tested the SRT-4 and clocked a 0-60 time of 5.6 seconds. They also tested the '03 350Z and clocked it at 5.4 seconds.
So... Doesn't that mean that stock for stock, the 350Z is faster? That'd explain my victories, especially considering mine's an '06 and not an '03.
I've gotta have someone clock my 0-60 times one of these days. The gauge cluster in my car includes a stopwatch, and I've tried to use that to clock it, but it's difficult to concentrate on getting the best time and having to stop the stopwatch at the same time. The last time I TRIED it, I left it in auto mode (obviously, because I want one hand on the wheel at least) and clocked a 5.8. Disappointing, but auto mode just sucks. It's so much quicker when you shift it yourself with the tiptronic - you gain a couple hundred RPM that way, plus harder shifts.
I'll have someone come with me for a ride with a stopwatch soon.
