Helloooo, everybody! So, I’ve had lots of time to reflect and watch this episode OVER and OVER and OVER, due to the deliciousness of it, so this week’s summary/discussion will be a little bit less random.
First off, the obligatory: BAHAHAHA, NEGI. Tooookka, Toooookka, Tooooooka! Lovely lovely scene, really, simply wonderful. I mean, short of them kissing, that was the best Tokka scene that could be hoped for at this point in time… Well, no, there could be discussion of Yue/Suki with blushing and hinting that Sokka likes another girl now, THAT’S the best Tokka scene that could be hoped for. But, y’know, this one is pretty high up on the list. I mean, okay. Let’s analyze this. (I can almost feel Negi twitching, it’s delicious.) They both opened up to each other A LOT. Both aren’t exactly the touchy-feely types. Toph CRIED, for Pete’s sakes, and Sokka told Toph something that he’d never told anyone else before… ending with a Tokka-typical punch and threat. (This is something that I particularly like about the coupling, because I show my affection through punching/threatening/teasing, lol.) It’s just… it’s nice to see them bonding, at least, not factoring in romance or anything. They’re a great duo, if only friends. They have great chemistry. Even if you don’t like the concept of a romance between them (COUGHNEGICOUGH), you have to admit they make a great team.
Okay, so moving on from my personal favourite scene of the episode…
Who else freaked out at the opening scene of the episode? I was like, “OH, KATARA, YOU WHORE. There better be a rational explanation for this or I AM HUNTING YOU DOWN.”
No Zucrew! I don’t know if this is a good thing or bad thing. I mean, on one hand, the Zucrew fascinates me ENDLESSLY. On the other hand, I really missed the Gaang during The Beach.
MUD-WRESTLING! WOOOO! Hahahahaha. Fan-service, hoooo! It’s good to see that the guys are getting more fan-service now. Season 1 and 2, it was mainly shirtless guys. (See: The Southern Air Temple. *drool*) I don’t really mind the fan-service much, it makes me laugh.
Hehe, Toph scamming EVERYONE. Hilarious. The innocent little blind girl act is so funny…
Hawkyyyy~ xD Has anyone here seen the pilot of Avatar? If not… its essential viewing, go watch it. You can find it on YouTube. ANYWAYS. Zuko was originally supposed to have a messenger hawk as his pet, and he and Momo would be enemies, right? So, I think this was sort of a montage to that original hawk.
Also, speaking of Hawky, Toph sent a letter to her parents! Gasp! What does this mean? Weeell, there are two options: 1. Happy-happy-fun-acceptance, or 2. DISASTER. Seeing as how it’s a television show, I’m going to go with door #2. I’m betting on Toph’s parents using the hawk to find the Gaang, and trying to take Toph back. HOWEVER. This theory, obviously, runs into a couple of obstacles. 1. They’re Earth Kingdom, how the heck are they going to get into the Fire Nation? Well, I’d say ‘the same way the Gaang got in’, but I somehow doubt that they’re that clever. I’d say they get captured, which leads to an episode of Toph trying to bust them out of prison. This act of power from Toph will convince them that she can take care of herself, and she really isn’t helpless. THERE’S MY PREDICTION. Down in writing.
Mom-Katara. Hm. I’m not quiiiite sure what implications this has. I’m wondering if this was just to solidify her role in the Gaang, or if it has certain consequences down the road. I’m on the fence about this.
What else…
Hehe, I want the poster of Toph up in my room. ^^ “I have a wanted poster? COOL! Is there a picture? Do I look good?” “…Actually, it does look pretty good.”
Bahaha, Aang and Sokka are so dumb… As soon as Sokka said, “Hey, Aang!” I thought, “…Toph can’t read or write.” Like, I SENSED the idea coming. xD
Reappearance of Combustion Man/Sparky-Sparky-Boom Man! xD Turns out, he can be defeated with a pebble. Huzzah. -_-; I don’t think this is the last we’ll be seeing of him, though, because if so… DAMN, that’s the shortest-lived villain ever. I think the pebble merely made him temporarily ‘blind’. He couldn’t fire straight, y’know? It’s like throwing sand in someone’s eyes.
Additionally, couldn’t Toph use Katara’s armlets to bust them outta there? They’re made of metal. -_-; But noooo, we had to introduce the concept of bending bodily fluids for the next episode…
…I just got a really, really, REALLY perverted idea concerning ‘bending bodily fluids’. Oh my. D: Oh, the hentai pictures are going to SKYROCKET. Oh… GAH! Oh, wow, the possibilities keep flowing… D:
Uh… what else… Nothing I can think of. *shrug*
Overall, great episode. I really enjoyed it. Some good comedy, some good romantic development (for MY ship anyways, bahaha), some good character development, and some good set-up. Out of the three episodes that’ve been released, I’d say this one is in the middle-ground for general mood. 308 is really dark and 309 is really lighthearted. This one is funny but has some good depth too.

XFD I watched it earier on Veoh and again tonight.
I loved it. 'Specially Toph.
Mother was watching it with us tonight... 'Twas odd. When Toph was all "How can I play; I'm blind?" gonk She was "Is she really blind?"
And nekkid bathing emo Katara. When she came on I was all "Naked! Naked. Naked?"
Mud-wrestling is Rumbling Roses all over again.
XFD Why'd you say that? "Bending bodily fluids"=automatic wrong thinking.

I LOVED this episode. In case somebody doesn't know Toph, in my book, is the cutest little munchkin in munchkin town (of course I wouldn't tell her that. I don't have a death-by-rock-avalanche wish) xd
Is it just me or Toph is starting to get boobs? I have 2 cousins and a sister around Toph's age and they came to mind (plus I'm a girl). When I saw this episode that little fact came to mind in a split of a second. I don't want to stay analizying her chest because I would feel like a *****, but I would feel better about her growing up if I were at some moment decide to join this ship. (So far I'm ship less, but hoping Maiko survives just to see Zutarians squirm twisted )
I loved the cat fight in the mud. Damn you Aang, Toph was looking awesome there. xd And am I the only one that found it even more amusing for the obvious lack of interest in the male members? xd (I do understand the lack, but it seems still funny)
Blind jokes, how I've missed them. I just love when Toph cons the stones guy playing the defenseless cute blind girl. I was like "That's my munchkin"
It's the return of Sokka's beard. Seriously that better be the running gag of season 3. The cabagge man left a void in my heart.
My only "complaint" is Toph's image of her parents:

Shaolina My only "complaint" is Toph's image of her parents: In the end of season 2 Toph was happy to receive a letter of her parents. Fake, we know, but when the gang saw her receive it they saw how happy she was. Why would Katara say that Toph acts like she hates them? I have two theories regarding that. One is that, as we know, she puts up her angry-girl act when she's not confronted, but when her parent's reach out for her, she's weaker that she thinks. The second is that she became angrier at them when she was captured by those two guys, because she probably recognized them, and suspected her parents had sent them for her. And yes, she's totally getting boobs. I noticed because it does good for my Ship. I'm not a *****. I swear. As for my opinion on the episode: TOTAL AWESOMENESS. From the very first scene, I knew watching it earlier had been a mistake, because it just gave so much to talk about I would have to keep it bottled up a week. That has to be one of the best opening scenes EVAR. You see other chapters and they're just walking into a place and stuff, but this was gripping X3. Is it me, or Aang is like, the cutest thing ever in these three episodes? And Hawky! I was so sad he left, and I hope he comes back again. I do have to wonder, what will Toph's parents think when they get a FIRE NATION hawk suddenly appear at their door. Ah, Toph, being awesome yet again. There's not much I can say about that that wouldn't make me look like a crazy fangirl. As for Katara's motherly-ness, I think it's just to show her commitment to the gAang. I think this was a good episode for her because her actions didn't contradict her, and yet the fact that she decided to play along with Toph show that despite her sense of responsability she is young and wishes to be more than a care-taker for them. Also, for the poll I chose the lack of ZuCrew over Tokka, but that's a comment I'll make in its due time. Oh yeah, almost forgot: TOKKAAAAA!!! heart heart . I mean, damn! the only thing that could ruin this ship now is that Suki showed up ninja ...

Lemon M. the only thing that could ruin this ship now is that Suki showed up ninja ... But she NEEDS to show up. Even though Suki not being around GREATLY helps Tokka's chances, I'd be upset if she was just left a mystery.

I'm not surprised that Sokka didn't show an interest in the mud-wrestling since one girl was 12 and the other was his sister, but if I were in Aang's shoes I'd probably ask to be excused.

I was on edge everytime they got together with no one else around. "Butterfly said there's a Tokka moment here. IS THAT IT?! No, wait, that's nothing big. IS IT THAT?! No, wait, that's a squirrel." "He wants to talk? No, don't go. Don't listen. GAH, stop spilling your heart out. Aang, interrupt them! Comet, crush Sokka! And was that last word/pun on purpose? I liked this episode for the character development on Toph's part. We haven't really had an episode that focused on her in a long time from what I can remember. Sadly it was ruined with Sokka being next to her in "that" scene. Why couldn't the mud-wrestling last a little longer? Maybe another minute longer? xd (Toph would have won too)

And the reason my notes on Tokka were longer than the rest is because that was the highlight of the episode for me. biggrin
Mmm, I don't mind Toko much... I mean, as a singular ship. It interferes with Maiko and Tokka, my two actually-canon ships (Smellershot isn't reaaally canon, but it's still really damn cute... and I won't even go into Trozai), so I'd not want it to happen. HOWEVER. I think there's a possibility of that ship, and I prefer much more to Taang.
I never said Sokka was interested in Toph. I said that Toph is undoubtedly interested in Sokka, and the two of them are close. You forget, Negi, there are still 11 unseen episodes. ^^ (You'll be relieved to hear that there's no significant Tokka in the other two.)
Okay... That scene wasn't necessarily Tokka, in a romantic sense. I think it was more of a bonding scene than anything. Completely forget about the fact that it's a girl and a guy, and the girl likes the guy, and it's just a friendly bonding scene. Stop hating on Sokka. D:
Not to say that I won't take that scene and run for the hills with it. But, you know, feel free to dismiss it as a friendly bonding scene.

Tokka has now officially become something I would love to see happen.
And... the sweat thing, I TOTALLY saw it coming, the SECOND I saw sweat on her. But still, that was NOT needed.
Oh, and the Katarawhore thing? I was totally thinking that too. xD

Y'know, I think I'm kind of the opposite of you... I like Katara more after this episode, and generally more this season. I think it's because more character flaws are being shown, y'know? Before it was like, "Katara can do anything and everyone loves her, wooo." Now, it's like, "Yeah, she's dumb just like the rest of 'em."
I like how they're doing more stuff that shows how old the Gaang and the ZuCrew really is this season. It's easy to forget how young they are, y'know?
