The grass was yellow and the sky was blue. Clouds were white and the gazelles were tan. But Bambi was purple. Which meant if she had desired such large prey, she would have surely failed in the hunt. She stuck out like a sore thumb but surely it was only the ironic metaphor of the gods for her personality and general character did too. The purple wild dog could not remember the day before. And she never knew she should have it any other way.

She lounged boredly by the herd, rolling onto her back, her feet in the air, staring at the clouds with a bored stare. Bambi was relying on spontaneity to figure out what to do and so far it wasn't getting her anywhere.

Bathsheba found she couldn't fly right now. Not in a literal sense, of course, because her wings her fine as was the magic that left her in the air. No, it was more...she couldn't bare being so high. She felt so lost and aimless right now, her mind twisted and running over the same thoughts over and over. All she could do was let her paws take her where she willed. And for the first time in her life she hide herself. She wasn't sure whether being the goddess of duty was a thing to be proud of anymore. So she dragged along, her appearance that of a simple dappled lioness. She was so scattered, so out of focus that she didn't even notice when the scent of a wilddog drifted through the air and lingered nearby.

Bambadege stared at the clouds but they did not talk back nor did they perform a spectacle for her. She decided maybe she'd get some fun out of chasing the gazelles away. It could have it's rewards, she guessed. The purple wild dog rolled to her feet and pulled herself together, into the mood. It was sort of primitive, drawing her lips back and crouching low, eying them with interest. Several noticed that she was no longer laying down and moved away with care. She narrowed her eyes and grinned.

But her canine senses alerted her to her nose. And it was not smelling gazelle. Knocked out of her state like shattered glass, she looked towards the smell. She wondered what it was and curiously trotted in its direction. Finally! Something fun to do!

Bambi came up upon a dappled lioness. "Aren't you a sight for sore eyes," she declared all the while turning the situation over in her mind to try to find a way to get fun out of it.

Sheba blinked in surprise, her lavender eyes sliding sharply into focus at the sound of a voice. Her ears perked forward and she turned her head slightly to finally see what she had been missing all along. A female wilddog had come up and greeted her...if in a slightly odd sense. She had to admit, she was used to formality and without it she felt a little tongue tied. She had been lost on her own, let along with company. "I'm...sorry?" she asked, sounding a bit confused.

Bambi grinned widely at the lioness but not too widely as to seem almost freakish or to weird the other out. "It means you need to have fun," Bambi said, "because sad is no fun. I'm Bambadege and I'm never sad. What's your name?"

Indeed, Bambi never was sad. She never had anything to be sad about or if she did, it was forgotten come the next day. So for all she knew, she had been happy her whole entire life. But memories were such a waste of effort that she didn't even bother to make that stipulation. "Cheer up," she added.

Sheba felt her maw draw closed in a thin, perplexed line. Her ears flickered back and she felt a bit stiff with embaressment. Was she really that easy to read...? She had always prized her composure but...aparently it wasn't holding strong at the moment. "I apollogize," she murmured, slowly, as if finding words to such a blunt sgugestion was hard...which it was, "I'm...not used to being so obvious, I suppose." She tried to pull herself straighter and more up to her normal height, not slumped like someone in an emotional rut, "I'm Bathsheba. It's a pleasure to meet you."

"Oh... well that's ok," she stated cheerfully. In truth, she had not realized there was any depth to her somber composure and had simply made her statement with the hopes the lioness would break into a grin and perhaps join Bambi in her quest for fun ...by contributing. So it was to her surprise when it seemed that this creature much different from herself in species was also different in character and personality.

But Bambi didn't take things for granted ...except perhaps her true brain capacity. "Whether you're upset or just fine does not matter because neither are what you should be," she declared. "You should be happy. Hey, what's got you so glum anyway?" This was a new experience, pretending to be a counselor.

Expressing herself was difficult. She had barely managed to do it with a loyal, long time friend. So when it came to sharing with a stranger...she found herself unable. It also made her feel horrible about herself; to think she was so misereble she was asked to confide in a stranger! It was just another blaring reminder of how much of a mess she was. So, not wanting to be rude and not sure...what else to really say, he spurtted off another excuse for her unhappiness, "I had a fight with a friend." It was...partially true.

Bambadege opened her mouth to form a large "O". In truth, she had no clue what a friend was. She had never had that term used before her before so it must not be a good thing to have, much less fight with. Bambi nodded as though agreeing or understanding her misery. However, she couldn't. Sadness wasn't in her description or at least she didn't know it to be.

Bambi was so two dimensional and flat in character - what you see is what you get - that had Sheba decided to express herself, she wouldn't have been able to offer anything constructive. So there was truly no harm done by not telling everything. "Eh... that's too bad. But hey, surely you came all the way out here for something. You hungry?" Not that Bambi could feed such a large creature but ....she was at a loss at what to do.

Sheba was relieved that she didn't have to explain further. It was less pressure on her and less for her to fret over later. Right now she really simply needed time for self reflectiong...at least that's what she believed. But what she thought wasn't always right. And if she didn't know the answer after days, why would she after weeks? "Ah...no, I'm not, but thank you," she replied tenatively, shaking her head and causing whtie bangs to fall in her eyes, "I'm just...wandering I suppose..."

She paused and then asked slowly, trying to shift the conversation, "What about you?"

Bambi made a face as though she was rather sad that the other hadn't volunteered anything. But getting the conversation turned back on herself didn't make her feel any better. "Well, I have been here since this morning, just meandering about here." She didn't remember anything before the sunrise and she didn't remember going to sleep and thus didn't call waking up so. How could she?

Had she been able to draw on past meetings, she might have commented on how common such an occupation wandering seemed to be. But instead she commented, "Oooh, that must be fun. Do you get to see a lot of places?"

Sheba didn't find this answer strange. Mainly because it was normal sounding; anyone could say they were here this morning, implying that they hadn't been the day before. It wasn't a phrase that normally suggested a memory problem. And quite frankly, she wasn't really looking for signs of distress in such an obviously cheerful canine, both because of her temperment and because of Bathsheba's own peronal problems. She nodded her head slowly, trying to think of something interesting to offer to the conversation, "I've been...all over Africa, really. I've seen a lot, you could say."

Bambi's eyes lit up. Finally! Something perhaps! Maybe she could get some fun out of this after all, even if only through words. "Oooh really? What sorts of things? I bet you've seen all sorts of things." She couldn't think of any examples but she was sure there was many a splendid thing she couldn't see and didn't see, much less know of. She had no clue how big Africa was. She had no clue how big this place she was in now was. So Bambi could be amazed by almost anything Sheba could say.

"Well...." she murmured, shifting her lavender eyes as she tried to find a way to describe everything...or at least something interesting. "I've seen...lands covered in nothing but hot sand...sand that gets stone cold at night...I've seen huge forests and jungles with waterfalls and misty pools...I've seen...lush open grasslands that were green and always filled with zebra...I've seen rocky shores that were constantly worn away by the sea and sometimes battered with ranging storms...." She paused, tilted her head and looking at Bambi, hoping all of that hadn't been...boring.

Bambi closed her eyes as the other spoke, allowing herself to imagine everything that the other said. Sure, it wasn't the most descriptive, but she filled in the gaps the best she could. There was so much there to imagine that she had a hard time keeping up with the scenes. "It sounds... wonderful!" she stated despite the fact that most of them were probably dangerous. Perhaps if she ran fast enough, she might see them all today.
