Naina had matured so badly. She had grown, and had become a fine young mare. But her mishaps with her family, had a little gap in her heart. She never voiced that she was missing something, but lately, she had been feeling that she had been lost.

Her father had fallen in love, and she saw him so rarely.. And she lived closer to Amaroq, but even he didnt really frequent the areas she did. So she had become something of a loner. She had no one at the time.

Her eyes were wide as she walked through the night, her ears swiveling over her head. She was paying absolutely no attention to her surroundings. She had walked this place so many times, she could do it in her sleep and still come out alright.

But her ebony curling locks hit her blue hued neck, and the beads glimmered in the night.
The stars caught her shiny jewelry, the same shiny jewelry that matched her eyes to teh T. Her amethyst gaze.
She had heard good things of her eyes. She had heard they were soft, even when she was angry. Her eyes were innocent, and that of a filly..

Nighttime had always held a particular fascination for Trev. Unlike his sister Memory, he'd never been forced to come face to face with the demons of the night; consequently, for him it was a time of quiet and introspection. Having done his best to learn from Draven's teachings, he could wear the night as a cloak, silent and stealthy when he wished to be, or he could flout those teachings, walking heavily and loudly as though announcing his prescence to the world.

Tonight, he was doing neither. The stallion was quiet, laying against the rough bark of an oak tree on the edge of the forest, his head tilted back slightly as he looked up through the bare branches of the tree to the dark sky above. It was so very quiet, so very serene...

Her hooves carried her only as far as the stallion. Her reaction was surprised as her first thought was of her father. As she saw the stallion closer though, she shook her head. No way that was her father. He had a horn.. He was a unicorn who bore such a close resemblence to her father.
Right down to the Cross.
But.

Trevelyn. She hadnt seem him in so long. She hadnt spoken to him since she was newly an adult. She had matured, that much was true.. But She instantly wondered if she should turn around and head the other direction. Her heart told her no. She wanted to talk to her brother again. But her brain, let her think of what happened last time.
He hadnt wanted to speak to her at all. He had taken to heart everything that was flawed about her, and he saw her as her father. Not as Naina. Not as his sister.

Stopping in midstep, her voice was hushed, but somewhat audible.

"Trev?"

The last time they'd met, Trevelyn had had no idea who she was. Until he'd come to realise her identity, he'd even been friendly. However, once he learned that she was 'that filly', he'd closed up, his patent dislike of the conversation and the meeting obvious. That meeting had ended with him running of of false politeness and walking away, the better to reflect and wind down.

This time, there were no false impressions. The dry grass meant that foot steps carried, and he'd have been hard pressed to ignore either the mare's presence or her voice. Just his luck...

Lowering his gaze from the sky to settle on the blue mare, Trev quickly took her in. She looked about the same as last time, truth be told, at least in the generals. Maybe a bit more timid of voice, but that could just be her remembering the last time they talked. Considering that, though, Trev found himself honestly wondering why she was talking to him now at all. Hadn't they butted heads enough for a lifetime?

But whatever. He wasn't going to jump to any conclusions; that would ruin what had thus far been a pleasant night. Instead, he merely gave Naina a slight nod, acknowledging his name but otherwise remaining as he was. "Naina."

Her body shook with the anxiety of seeing him again. Her heart was racing. The stallion that looked so much like the stallion that loved her, just.. disliked her so much. That almost killed. It was like looking into your fathers eyes and having him say, I hate you.

Her eyes stared into his, and she'd be damned before she'd stare at the ground in hopes of seeming meek.
She wasnt meek, but she wasnt rude. She had every intention of leaving him be if he wished. But she was hoping. Oh God was she hoping, that maybe he would be willing to get to know her now.

After all.. He didnt hate her. Because to hate her, he'd have to have cared for her first. She hardly could assume that he had cared for her while he was in his basket, for even she, didnt know what lay outside the dark box of which she was placed.

"How are you?"
Came the soft voice. By god she was nervous. Why the hell was she so nervous? This was her blood after all. He had just as much Jean if not more in him, and yet she was nervous of this stallion. It wasnt right.

She shouldnt fear her brother. But she found, it wasnt fear driving her heart now. It was love for the brother she wanted so badly.

"...Good, and you?" The last time they'd met, Trev had honestly been kerflummoxed by Naina's seemingly contradictory behavior. On one hand, she was proud of her father and loved the relationship they had. That was fine; he could respect that, seeing as how he felt the same way about his own family. She was proud enough of them to call out his own behavior, a 'I was bratty but so were you' sort of exchange that, even if he HAD been in the mood for it, would have been strange and potentially unappreciated. But the fact that that pride had been warring with what seemed to be a desire to please was what really threw him.

If she was so happy, why had she been so determined to make amends? If she was that satisfied, then why did it matter if they were together 'like a family'? If she was only proud, or only contrite, that would have mad more sense to the stallion than the conflicting messages he'd received.

Messages that he was still receiving, for that matter. Sheesh, she looked like she expected him to eat her. Raising a brow, he gave her a sardonic look; were he to have to come up with one phrase to describe her current attitude, it would be 'childlike'. A child that was in trouble and knew it. Interesting...

Okay, so maybe her whole, lets be nervous thing, wasnt working in her favor. She was failing miserably. Catching up with her mind, and how fast it was racing with things she wanted so terribly to say, she continued to look at him.
He looked at her, as if she was completely throwing him for a loop. Like she was confusing, and a very difficult creature to figure out.

"I am well. Its good to see you again."

No, last time she had met, she had lied. She wasnt happy where she was. In fact far from it. Her father had not been there as she grew. Had not been there as she had gone through some of lifes difficult challenges. She had willed him there, and she had just pretended.
It was only recently that her and Jean had formed a relationship with each other as father and daughters should have.

Remaining as he was, Trevelyn inclined his head slightly, patent recognition of Naina's words. So it was common pleasantries, huh? He could handle that, he supposed; not for very long, but it was a start.

So he kept his tone neutral, the raised eyebrow the only indication on his face that there was anything at all out of order with this scenario. "Really? After last time, I'd have sworn that you'd never want to speak to me again, considering how 'clicking' was the last thing we managed to do. You're an awfully forgiving mare."

It was difficult to say whether he meant that as a compliment or not. Usually he wasn't a suspicious stallion, but the fact she was even attempting to be pleasant made no sense, considering the terms they'd last parted on. Strange mare, going out of her way when it obviously made her uncomfortable...

Truth was, Naina found herself constantly thinking of how her family could have been had they stayed together. Her and Memory had gotten along fairly well when Naina had run into her awhile back, but Trev had been one tough cookie.

She had spent countless nights wondering what it was about her that he simply disliked?
She found she wanted him to approve of her, because she had people say all teh time that she wouldnt be the way she was, if she had some brotherly advice.

Whom would she get that from? Her brother was standing before her, and he didnt like her. She had to do something that would cause them to click at all.
She had to.
She needed Trevelyn, even though he needed her not at all. She needed parts of her family.
She was empty.

"Not forgiving. I understand. There was nothing to forgive last time. You spoke your mind, no one can ask you to apologize for speaking what you believe in. You were right, and I understand."

She stepped closer to him, that was, if he'd allow her to come too much closer.
She took a place beside a tree on the opposite side of the trail as he was on.
She was determined to get to know him better than she did.

"..." The edge of one lip curled slightly upwards in the faintest hint of amusement as Trev listened to Naina. This just got more and more interesting, didn't it? Last time, she'd been so proud and argumentative, and now she was telling him how right he was?

Draven was right, sometimes you just couldn't get people to make sense.

Now, he wasn't sure if he believed her. It was contradictory to his prior experiences, and didn't fit in with his understanding of Soquili nature on a basic level to begin with; indeed, he'd grown up with a sister in what basically amounted to a standard family group, with a mother and 'father', so he had no way of knowing or even guessing what was running through her mind.

All that he knew was that it sounded strange, and strange was suspicious. "So. You decided it would make things easier if you dropped the arguments, huh? Or what?" As he spoke, he shifted slightly, settling his legs more comfortably underneath him.

"What would I have to argue? It isnt like arguing would get either of us anywhere, and as it is, I'd like to get to know you better. Arguing? I have a feeling that would lead us to the end of last times meeting."

She said, smiling a bit.
She wasnt su pposed to smile, but she couldnt help it. When he raised his lip up the way he did, he didnt realize that father was notorious for the same thing.

So it was true, some habits could be bred.

"Does my presence here bother you?"
She asked, fully ready to stand and leave him if he so wished. She knew, and understood, that unless he was willing to get to know her, then he never would.
She had come to terms with that, and though it would hurt her badly to leave.. She would.. She could do it.

"I dont mean to be a pest.. As Awkward as that sounds."

Shrugging his shoulders, Trev leaned back against his own tree. "Sometimes it's best to not try and get anywhere, and it's better to stand by your guns and fight than compromise your integrity and cave. It only leads to dissent of a much deeper kind." As he spoke, Treb once again turned his gaze upwards, his dark violent eyes reflecting the glimmer of the stars above. So much for peace...

"It doesn't really matter to me one way or another if you're here. If it got to me, I could leave. It's not like I'm tied to this place any more than most other places, so if you want to try and talk, talk away. Don't expect anything dramatic, though; I'm not a particularly 'fun' stallion at the best of times. So if it's entertainment or witty conversation or whatever you're after, I can tell you straight out you ought to go away."

Blunt wasn't something he brought out unless provoked, but there were also times when it was necessary. He didn't harbor any illusions about himself, and frankly he didn't see how this conversation could be fun, seeing as how it was basically a testing of boundaries.

Now he was just being stubborn, and her ears went back against her skull but almost instantly perked back up as she continued looking at him.
His face was towards the Spirits. But she was looking at him.
Even if he was being stubborn about it, she was learning about him.

Her tail flicked behind her and she glanced at it, as it fell back to the grassy earth as she thought about what he'd said.
She hadnt come for pleasantries, and she certainly would like, but hadnt come for Polite conversation either. She had stopped to see him, because she had missed him, and talking to him of their past, or just straight talking to them and discussing what they were going to talk about, was fine to her.

"No, I dont think I shall go. So, you say you arent the most fun stallion at best times.. Who determines the best time?"
She asked, looking at him as he continued to glance to the stars.

"You? Because if it is, Some people might see you as more entertaining than you see yourself."
She said. She didnt find him entertaining, but a mystery to say the least.

Casting her gaze to the sky as well, she looked around.

"What are you looking for?"
PostPosted: Sat Nov 03, 2007 1:47 pm

So she wanted to try and challenge, him, huh? Well, that was her choice; whatever reasons pushed her to keep trying were her own. Granted, Trev had never been a fan of analyzation, but to each their own.

He did have to set the record straight on one thing, though. "Well, I'm certainly one of the ones that decides such thing, but the qualifier came from my sister. Considering that she probably knows me better than anyone else, I'd say that she ought to know what she's talking about."

It wasn't necessarily that Trev meant to hurt or provoke by referring to Memory as his sister rather than by name; it was simply that for he and Memory, closeness had never been an issue. Playmates as foals and friends as adults, they had a very strong bond that shone forth in Trev's eyes when he spoke of her. For him, 'my sister' was the most affectionate moniker he could call Memory by, a combination of friend and family that was always there for him (and vice versa, of course!).

The mare looking at him right now was technically his sister, but not his sister like Memory. Whether or not it was even possible for her to become that way...well, only time would tell.

"And nothing in particular, really; I just think that the night is very soothing. Dark colors and shadow are very homey for me." Especially after growing up in a cave in the middle of the woods!

Naina too had grown and been raised in a cave, but her cave hadnt had the comfort of the forest outside. She had the cold mountains, the icy region that was notorious for homing Skinwalkers and the Kalona.

She feared neither, and had in fact had many run-ins of the sort.. But she could agree with him when it came to the night. She loved the shadows, and darkness was a close friend of hers.. And had been since she was a little filly.

"Well, Memory is a delightful mare, and very honest as well. I met up with her around the time of your and my partings from each other that first time. Im sure that she is correct then, as I would trust her opinion."

She said, shaking her head to shake her head of curls. The same head of curls Trev and Memory both had.

"The night is amazing. Its quite enjoyable to hide amongst the shadows."
She said, speaking fondly of her brother called The Night.
