Oh my god... What can I say about this series?
There are total of 10 of them (which 6 of them are released in Japan only.) There is 11th coming out which is a remake of the first game.
But talk about your favorite game and so on...
My favorite game is Genealogy of the Holy War because I believes that has to be the best game through out the series. The storyline is excellent and your unit have potential to kick some serious @$$. Such example is: Levin!Sety (meaning Levin's son along with Fury who is Sety's mother everytime. The son can have different father but as long as their mother are lover.). With Sety's Holsety and his potential to cap out his spd (30?), he is likely to prove that people are having a shitty hell of a time to kill him...
Because I had him with 100+ evasion. 100+ EVASION RATE!! That alone with his other godly stat make me <3 (too bad, I'm a guy) him a unit. He even gave me like 28 Mag (+30 Mgt from his Holsety) which make him even much more sexier. Just imagined how Cloud would unleashed his Omnislash and have each damages MISSES EVERY TIME!
Shanan with his Balmunk/Balmung kick a** because of his sexy Meteor, Pursuit, and Continue. If activated all together, he have a potential to do 7 attack in one row! Plus, he is a swordmaster and Balmunk is just like Holsety! (+10 to skl, +20 spd bonus I believes, along with that sexy 30Mgt to back it up.)
Alvin is also the best boss ever, because he got 40 DEF and RES (30 for capping it, and +10 from his personal spell) along with a bonus to +10 to his 30 Mag. OUCH, 70 damages TOTAL? But I managed to defeat him...
Too bad, I wanted to show you some screenshot but I already beat the game...

It's turned based like Final Fantasy Tactic but rather instead of switch from enemy to ally to ally to enemy unit, you have a "turn" where you can move all of your own units, and the enemy will use their turn to move (or not at all) and vice versa until the condition is met.

Ah, excellent example! Yes, it is very much like Advance Wars DS. In fact, I believes it is made by the same company (Intelligence System).
Now if you considered this, unlike Advance Wars, your units can't be replaced by anything (let try this way. In Fire Emblem, if one of your unit die, he/she will remained dead forever. In Advance Wars, your units are dead but you can have another one in its place.) since it is part of the game play.
However, they give each units their own personal rate to grow each time they level up (If you're luck, you can get +7 stat up. Unlucky... 0+ stat up. ;;_; wink .
You should give it a try.
