Post is kinda tl;dr and I namedrop because I'm too lazy to edit out posts. Scroll to bottom of OP if you don't want to read it all:

About the huge Server Error we seem to be getting, it happened exactly after I reinstalled Firefox, so I was scared that I would never be able to use Firefox (thought it was a glitch) and that I'd have to...--gulp--...use Internet Explorer..... ;-;

So, anyways, this is just feedback about the error.

To which I replied:

Firefox elitism really needs to stop. Internet Explorer is a fine web browser if you aren't a complete idiot, stop acting as if having to use it is some sort of travesty upon mankind.

Which then degraded to:

Excuse me? So I'm an idiot for not using Internet Explorer? I've been using that web browser for four years before I moved to Firefox because of all the glitches it gave, so don't act like such an a** and then try to lighten it by agreeing with me. =|

You're completely misinterpreting my post. My point was that people really don't give Internet Explorer enough credit, and if they bothered to do their research/not be completely lazy, they'd find it on equal ground with Firefox. I use both with absolutely no problems, I was not trying to disrespect you in any way except say that maybe you shouldn't mindlessly bash a web browser. rofl

Edit: also I was speaking in very broad terms, people bash IE just as much as people bash the PS3- in both examples, it's completely unwarranted. I'm not targeting you specifically.

Then don't mindlessly bash the people who use their favorite web browsers. =|

I want your guys opinions on this- do you think people should shut the ******** up about Firefox? I think my analogy of IE and the PS3 is quite suitable (even though you don't pay hundreds for the latter...) I'm just really tired of seeing idiots going "BAAAAWWW I WAS ALMOST FORCED TO USE A WEB BROWSER I DON'T LIKE"

TL;DR: Should people stop being an elitist about the web browser they use? y/n

*Veras Gunn here in mule because I'm too lazy to jump over to the main for the halloween event*

Honestly, it depends. I used IE for many years, and then I found out about Firefox. Firefox, which offered multiple tabs in a single browser instead of the usual multiple windows, a built in Download Manager, and a built in ad-blocker. All of that with the easily designed and added extensions and themes due to the open source nature of the browser all made me change. This was before the IE update with the tabs, but by now I'm just more used to using Firefox and it's saving me a lot of times with some of my extensions(NoScript saves sooo much time with popups and shitty ads).

I do agree with the matter of people refusing to use another browser due to just being stupid(or not knowing how to fix your own browser. I could have that firefox glitch fixed in 10 minutes top), but sometimes it just comes down to what someone's comfortable with.

I tried using Firefox a few years ago. I wondered why a single web browser was using 150k of RAM. IE windows take 20k. (Note, back then my computer had 384k of RAM) Playing a game while running Firefox is like playing a game while running Photoshop.

I hear they eventually fixed the memory leak, but by that point I wasn't interested in giving it another try.

My IE crahsed on my second pc so I use Firefox on it and IE on the first.

I prefer using Explorer a bit more for some websites and downloading but FireFox is still good with its multiple tabs.

I really have nothing to say otherwise except that I find webrowser hating
really stupid. I mean, they're just there to...browse on the web.

My point exactly whee

Also IE 7 has multiple tabs now guys... not sure if you knew it or not, but I wanted to throw it out there. Microsoft adopted a lot of features (tabs lol) that made FF so widely renowned, so IMO they're pretty much the same thing.

Was it really necessary to suggest a person's an idiot just because they made a dumb offhanded comment about not liking IE? That's really no better than the original dumb comment. She didn't have to suggest that using IE is practically a death sentence, but you didn't have to go off on a rant about her post either.

Firefox serves me well. IE, even tabbed, is just awkward to me now.

I prefer Firefox myself, but I do take note of the elitism going on from our side. I don't know how to run IE. Doesn't mean it's a s**t browser, just means I can't get it to run reliably or quickly. I'm more familiar with firefox, and I like being able to customize it and keep track of multiple websites at once with one window. It's nifty.

crying This was something I pointed out in my second post, I wasn't directly insinuating she herself was an idiot (I've got one more warning on this account before I get b&... in fact I'm actually kind of worried that she may have reported the post as flaming because she misinterpreted my meaning), but your point is well taken.

If you meant that I shouldn't be making a broad statement like that anyways, I'd say you're correct in that two wrongs don't make a right, but I feel that even some a**-backwards "teaching" can at least encourage someone to not make dumb comments like that that are simply flamebait. There's no action that doesn't have a reaction, correct?

Out of curiousity Beramode, is there any specific reason that it feels awkward? I'd also like to ask this to everyone else, as I myself don't feel a significant difference between the two to warrant a preference.

I started using Firefox because I liked the tabs.
And I've just stuck with it since. biggrin OMO:

Like Jace, used firefox for the tabs. However, my firefox Glitched up and now I have to use IE when I want to download something. Could be worse, though.

I haven't really used IE for the last few years, but looking at it right now I can safely say that having the URL space over the menus is rather awkward, as is having other things clutter the tabs' area and the rearranging of the back, forward, refresh, stop, and home buttons so that they're all over the place.
It's usable, sure, but it's weirder than hell to look at and adapt to.

I don't think she was trolling though. whee Just adding static to her complaint that wasn't necessary to what she was saying.

My uses/needs factor into it a lot. Prior to switching Firefox, I'd actually moderate with a ton of IE 6 windows open at once. xd Like opening a lot of reports to work on or post histories that needed to be cleaned up or gathering topics on my own to move... tons of windows. Very awkward. I usually have a fair amount of tabs open regardless of what I'm doing since I'm a huge multitasker. Tons of tabs are much easier for me to manage. And by now it's just familiarity. So it feels odd to try to use IE 6, even more strange to use IE 7.

Before I reinstalled windows on my laptop I had 9 web browsers. Or was it 8...

IE
Firefox
Flock
Opera
AOL Exlorer Browser
Netscape
Safari

Darn me and my lack of screenshots!

I went to firefox a couple of years ago cause of the tabs, then IE7 came and I went to that. Now I just go anywhere. Flock is cool for photo uploading though. And Opera doubles as a torrent downloader.

Yea, I'm aware IE has tabs now too, but I'm just too used to Firefox now.
Don't get me wrong. I'd use IE if I had to without much complaining, but if I've got a choice, I pick Firefox.
