The Forest of Despair takes up a large portion of Northwestern Wormwood. In this dismal expanse of woods, even the trees seem to be suffering as their bark twists itself into ghastly facial expressions of agony and anguish. To venture into the Forest of Despair is to run the risk of wandering for all eternity, lost in its never-ending canopy of darkness. However, it is rumored that the Lycans, a mysterious minor race in Wormwood, have taken up residence somewhere in the forest. It is unknown of the Lycans’ intentions or allegiance, but stories have arisen of human hunters being aided by them when hopelessly lost in the dark woods.

Zak walked his normal route around the woods. For he has been here many times and he is smart enough to map the place so he does not get lost, for every new section he maps. He is doing this more for his own purposes then anyone elses. He expects the minor races here to begin a rebellion of some sort and mapping the place would aid much for the vampires or the human hunters. Zak's eye caught something though, as he looked west the normal arc tree was gone rather it was of a redish hue and standing straight up. It was strange for such a tree so he took out a rapier blade from under his hat and scraped a branch to see the insides of the tree. Amazingly it seems as inside the tree was black chlorplast. Zak was not really a scientist so he did not want to study it, but when the branch he cut off turned into a snake he got worried.
Zak leaped back as the now cobra sized snake stood straight up. The thing was twice Zak's size oddly and Zak knew better then to strike the thing. He awaited, for he knew that when a snake struck it went straight its ability at changing its course is very low. If he could dodge the initial strike then he could win the battle quite easily. The snake finally snapped at him fangs going directly toward him, Zak ran right toward it and the snakes face snapped at the ground and in that instant Zak's sheaths became empty as his two black blades worked furiously around the neck of the snake. Though the skin was not of a scaly make but rather it was tough hard skin.
Zak cursed at that and started to stab instead of slash like he usually did. Soon enough though the Snake's head had already came back and was heading straight for him again. This time Zak did not dodge but attacked the thing head on or seemed to for at the last second he threw his two katana blades from the sheath on his back. The blades hit the snake in the center of the forehead, and then the other in his eye.
Zak smiled as the thing wacked around furiously in pain, and Zak decided he should finish the thing off so he jumped up and grabbed the katana that was embedded in the forehead and took it and then took the red katana and slashed it straight through the tough skin into the flesh and soon enough Zak had himself a decapitated snake. Zak sighed at that, but wrote down the animal and how he found it. Zak would make sure not to cut any other red trees for a while at least, and he headed north out of the woods. For as far as he was concerned his task was complete.
