For the first time in a long while, Kal trotted through the meadow with a smile on his face. The sun was warm, the breeze was mild, and the little stallion had taken the time to clean himself completely in the lake that morning. Now that he was all dry his markings glittered in the sun as he wandered. Being clean hadn't really solved any of his problems, he was still scrawny and only the height of an average mare, he was still timid and easily scared, and he still sucked at flying.

Yet he felt like those things weren't quite so troubling. He easily put all his worries from his mind as he slowed to a walk, and paused to nibble at some flowers.

The dark scowl that usually graced the silvery winged mare's face was strangely absent this day, azure irises glittering a little brighter than usual as she meandered through the red, gold, and brown trees with a contemplative look upon her face. It seemed her mood had brightened in recent days- perhaps it was the reconciliation she had achieved with her long-lost daughter, or perhaps it was just that she was beginning to let herself feel again... she wasn't sure she knew, herself.

Icy cerulean hues lifting from the multi-colored leaves that littered the forest floor, her gaze settled upon what seemed to be an alicorn stallion, with strikingly similar markings to the fallen leaves. She admired the colors of his pelt a moment before continuing forward, offering a brief nod of acknowledgement as she approached his smiling form.

"Greetings."

Kal was unaware he had company until he heard the soft crunch of hooves on dry leaves behind him, and his ears perked quickly as he turned his head to see who it was. A small wave of nervousness swept through him as he realized it was an unfamiliar mare, but he had been in good spirits to start off with, so he was able to hold his smile.

"H-hello," he stammered lamely. He didn't say anything more, not wanting to bother her with conversation if she was just passing through.

One ear twitched in curiosity at his stuttered greeting, head tilted to one side as she wondered at his apparent nervousness about her. Scaring other soquili was by no means unfamiliar to her, but she hadn't made a point of showing any hostility towards this one... not that she knew of, anyway.

"Have I said something to frighten you?" she asked bluntly, voice deliberately lowered a few decibals to seem unthreatening. Most didn't stutter, even if they were frightened- but she supposed there were exceptions to everything.

Kal shook his head, perhaps a bit quicker than necessary. "N-no, I-I'm not frightened," he replied with just as much haste. It was a good thing she had put effort towards adopting a softer tone with the little stallion, otherwise the blunt question might have really put him on edge.

"I-I was just a little startled," he hesitantly offered after a bit of nervous shifting.

A pause, then another subtle nod, as the silvery mare attempted a smile for his comfort. A ghost of one teased at the edges of her mouth and flickered there for a moment before it was instantly gone again- she was trying, now, but it seemed that she was still unaccustomed to this... 'friendly' business.

"Well, no need to be startled anymore, right? I'm not going to eat you." Was that... a joke? 'Kari could hardly believe it herself, although she wasn't about to question herself out loud, lest she make this stallion doubt her sanity... which she wasn't entirely sure was all there. The concept of not chasing this stallion away when she could with very little effort was surprising enough, but cracking jokes?

She wasn't entirely sure she was herself, but she said nothing.

"N-no, n-no need at all." He said very quickly indeed. He really hoped she was being truthful, she didn't look like a Kalona, and he had no desire to ever meet one again. Besides, it wasn't like a stallion to run from a mare, that's probably what Telikos would have said, even though Kal honestly thought mares could be just as scary as stallions sometimes.

No, she couldn't be a kalona, not with those feathery wings like his. She didn't seem menacing like the last one had been either.

Kal let himself relax a bit, and managed to smile towards her. "Th-there's some really tasty plants in this meadow, s-some I-I haven't seen a-anywhere else," he started, just to lighten the mood a bit and show that he wasn't afraid.
