In my oppinion, I would say its better to figure the stuff out yourself but it can help you decided what kind of character and job you want to make..so which is it?

i definetly think its worth it, i have the spring one myself im waiting for the new one to come out sense cop came out. Ive often look to if for synthing and quests for towns and first 4 ranks, pluss job stuff an how to make macros etc. There is still stuff in the game you have to figure out how to get yourself because the guide doesnt list EVERYTHING, so still alot of mystery to the game. 3nodding

I find the guide worth it for quest info, armor check for some of the old stuff, missions, the skillchains, and a few other stuff but one thing makes it not too worth it...
When it comes to job info, do NOT trust most of it. A few of them they have right and some are okay but some will get some people to not invite you once you make it high enough but some of the combos are good for soloing.
As I read in the Warriors forum on Allakhazam...Seems like Brandy is biased towards Warriors in a bad way and favor Dark Knights and when I checked my guide, I noticed a few of the biased stuff. I think it was more biased in the first guide but who knows. Guess that's where my brother comes in.
Anyways...In the end, guide is worth it for some simple stuff and a few good and useful information so it's okay to get for that other information.

i have the spring '04 issue. i use mine primarly as a "basic knowledge" guide of the game. i mean... when chains of promathia came out (on top of a few game-updates) the guide somewhat became outdated. it's a good thing to have, even for just reviewing the basic fundamentals of the game smile

inleast its got a guid of the exect location of the NM, and full understandable detail on how to make it spawn, then id prefer the internet...

If you're going to get it for Job Coverage, just plain NO. They have nearly every job wrong. According to the Brady Games guide, DRK is the mother of all damage dealers, and nothing ever beats it. If you question DRK, Brady will Sue you for $809625097245098625907845.54. They list War as nothing more than a lacking subjob, which is complete ******** CRAP. I'm a War, and I play on staying War. You rarely see a good warrior anymore. It sickens me that Bradygames would put out that kind of crap.
Other than that, It's a good guide, but for its horrible lack of job coverage, I voted no. You can find most of the things in the guide on the Allakhazam.com Boards and Databases, so to me - it's not worth getting.

id be friggin lost, literally. it has connectiong map that help you get around and it helps with quests and stuff that would be impossible to figure out on your own.

i personally hate Alakazam, but thats just me...personally cause a friend of mine did one thing wrong in a pt situation (he was on the good player list) and this a** munch of a girl tried to ruin his reputation in the game by dropping his name in a anomynouse comment, and trashing him an saying this an that throwing histerics. I stay the hell away from them forums...i hate em.
an a certain some one made it worse *eyes the person he knows who he is*, but i forgave him cause thats what friends do. The only time i use it is if i need to know where a NM is..an what lvl, thats just about it.

About someone slandering someone else.. that's just stupid I think. I mean c'mon... the dude/chick might just be having an off day. If you keep PT'ing with them and they keep acting like an a** just because they can, hey... then they're open game, lol.
On our server, we were having a problem with one dude (wont say name out of respect) trying to get his account suspended (no ideta why he decided to go that route). We helped him out with some advice on how to make it happen. Sure enough he took our advice, lol. Now he just goes around and bugs people.
Well... anyway, all those that started about the same time as us, learned to just avoid him in the game.

I don't have the guide and I play better than a lot of people who've told me that they do own it...
So clearly it has very little impact
I just go to ffxi.allakhazam.com
they have lots of guides and missions and quests and crafting laid out. It's probably more complete than the guide could possibly be (unless the guide gives free updates I don't know about every time the game updates)...
I personally just don't see the need for the guide because I'm doing fine without it.
I rely on a few websites, my own head, and a few friends who play the game and also do not own the guide. Between the lot of us we've figured things out

I agree that the allakhazam community is not entirely accounted for. But it does represents a part of the community with a lot of immature and easily agrivated kiddies. domokun
As for the guide: I voted no, because it has a lot misleading information in it. In our LS we mockingly call it 'the bradygames guide of untrue tales' blaugh
And just as Artemisia says: it is much better (imo) to just use the websites and rely on that information. And of course, my LS is of incredible value. Together you know SO much more. Spawn points, keys, quests, items, armor, job abilities… a good LS really helps!
