Skuld practically danced across the savannah, to the untrained eye. However, she was deep in the grass.... stalking ever-so-expertly... Then leaping at the unsuspecting yellow butterfly ahead of her in the grasslands. It had such pretty markings, all she wanted to do was see it. "I won't eat you, I promise!" the little cheetah kept calling to the annoyingly unresponsive butterfly. She hadn't realized how far away from home she was, nor if there was any other creature than the butterfly nearby. Still she bounded after it, fairly oblivious to her surroundings.

Siri was stretched out lazily on her back, watching the clouds (or lack there off) go by. Suddenly she heard a voice drifting across the savannah 'I wont eat you, I promise!'. Confused, she peeked her head just above the grass line, so only her black ears were visible.
But she didnt see anything. Figuring it was her imagination, she ignored the continued chants and shook her head in attempts to get the sound out of her head.

Skuld missed the ears popping out of the grassline, and she also missed any sound the lioness would have made in the act of rising and laying down again. She was focused solely on one simple thing: Butterfly. Must see wings up close. Butterflies are pretty, and this one is the same color as my tail tip... Must see.
She pounced, almost grabbing it, and managed to land directly in front of the lounging lioness. She didn't know much about the world, but her mother had told her not to bother strangers that are bigger than you. And especially don't jump right in front of random ones. She yelled in surprise, not expecting a lioness there, and lept backwards. "I'm sorry if I scared you!" she said immediately after bouncing back, even though the cheetah cub was probably more scared than the lioness.

Completely not expecting a random cheetah cub to pop out at her, Siri yelped in surprise and was standing in seconds. 'So much for my ears playing tricks on me... Must've been this little cub making all that noise. '
Calming herself, she looked down at the cub, who blended in rather well with her spots, except for her bright gold tail. "Its alright..." Not much for words, Siri just stared down at the youngster.

"Have you seen a butterfly?" She asked. Now that she'd broken her attention on the yellow thing, she'd lost it. Poor butterfly was probably hiding out in the grass, or so she imagined. "A yellow one, like the tip of my tail?"
"... I'm Skuld, by the way," the cub said with a chuckle. She'd completely forgotten for a moment there that the lioness should probably know her name.

"You may call me Si." Siri looked uncomfortable at giving her name, even the shortest version of it. "A yellow butterfly?" She looked around them, in search of the small winged beast, but didnt see it. "I haven't seen it... why are you chasing it?"

"...Yeah..." Skuld said sadly. The thing had been right there, in her paw pads practically! It wasn't that she couldn't keep up with it, just that she hadn't expected it's herky-jerky movements. "I just want to see its wings. I thought I saw some pretty purple spots, which seemed a weird color to go with Yellow, so I wanted to see it even more. I wasn't going to eat it or squish it or anything, just look at it..." She finished her sentence in a tone as if she was being lectured, though she knew she was getting nothing of the type.

"Ah, I see then." Siri stood up and looked around, trying to find the butterfly. She spotted it some distance aways, lightly sitting on a log.
"I see your butterfly, lets see if we can sneak up close enough for you to get a look at it." Siri crouched down low in the grass and motioned for Skuld to do the same. "Its no good to go chasing after it, you hafto sneak up on it."

Skuld hadn't thought of that... sneaking up on it. She was no leopard, but she would certainly try! Immediately the cub sunk into the grass and followed the lioness' lead, carefully placing each paw. She didn't want to be too ambitious with it, so she would wait for the more experienced adult to show her what to do when they got close enough... She could see through the grass a hint of yellow, and the cheetah let a smirk grow across her muzzle. She'd finally get to see the little thing up close without it fluttering away.

Siri smiled fondly at the cub... she had an incredible soft spot for them. Just a ways from the log, she stopped. "Now, you continue to crouch low, and sneak up next to the log. Once your there, be very still, and you should get a good look at your friend there." She knew she could go no farther without her larger body being noticed by the butterfly, and wanted to give the cub a good chance of seeing it.

Skuld nodded silently to the adult's instructions, her eyes ever fixated on the butterfly. She crouched down as low as she could and could still move her limbs, and started to creep. It kind of hurt to bend so low and keep moving; a small frown creased the cheetah's face, but it didn't last long. She emerged surprisingly quietly through the grasses and continued her slow but steady approach.
She was amazed how close she could get to the bright yellow insect. She was so close to it she could see what looked like a powder covering its wings. She silently wondered if that helped it fly...

Siri grinned fondly at the young cheetah. They were so cute and naive; she couldnt help but have a soft spot for them. And this one was particularly sweet. She had to keep herself from giggling and ruining his chances of seeing the butterfly.
She was actually rather suprised at how well the cub was doing. From what she knew cheetahs didnt sneak often, but apparently they were pretty good at it when they applied themselves.

Now satisfied with her view of the butterfly, Skuld pushed herself so the weight of her body wasn't on her shoulder blades any longer. She did so slowly, and the butterfly casually fluttered away. The cheetah's golden eyes followed it for a moment before turning back to the older lioness.
"Didja see that?!" she asked excitedly, bounding over to the grass. "You were right, I got real close to it!" Her muzzle was split from ear to ear in an excited grin. She approached the area where the lioness had been and slowly was able to discern her silhouette. "It was really cool!" She wished the adult had gotten to see it.

Siri smiled fondly down at the little cheetah. "You see- being fast doesnt always help; sometime you have to be sneaky too." She remembered the first time that she had gotten that close to a butterfly too. Her mother had been proud of the way she had learned to sneak.
It had always been hard to hunt with her dark fur, and sometimes being a little sneaky and underhanded was the only way to get a meal.

Skuld had never heard that. To a cheetah, speed was everything, or so she thought. But what the lioness said made perfect sense, now that the dark red cub thought of it... What good was the chase if you were nowhere near the prey to start out with? No, Skuld hadn't thought about it before, but now that she did, it made perfect sense.
"You're absolutely right, I never thought about it, really," her small voice said thoughtfully. Yes, this would be a lesson to remember-she'd need it later in life. Or perhaps... perhaps tonight she'd try to sneak up on a sibling and pounce them! That thought tumbled through her mind more steadily now.
