Brief History

The land of Nao is a vast and large place with many hidden villages and tribes. Humans largely populate the area but there are other creatures, though some good and bad. At one point in time a few animal tribes were close to the humans and sought to protect them. Having been around them for so long the tribe members slowly became more human like, some standing on two feet, dressing in clothes, and even talking their language. As magic was introduced some even began to obtain a human like form that they could transform into and hold. These few tribes lived in peace with the humans, but with all good comes the bad and the greatest of misunderstandings can occur.

Not all tribes favored the humans like some did and they considered anyone who corresponded with humans as enemies and traitors. Among these tribes they organized an assault against the humans and attacked all three of their major cities at once. The tribes that were on good terms with the humans helped them in the heat of the moment to fight back but it still did little good. Many human lives were lost in the battle and their cities left in ruins and being that humans are easily confused and swayed creatures they took the assault to heart and considered anyone that wasn’t truly human an enemy. Fearing that which they didn’t understand.

As the years went on the humans rebuilt their cities placing great walls around their perimeter and fending away anyone who dared to enter that wasn’t the same as them. Some even began fur trades, hiring mercenaries to hunt down tribal villages capturing many women and children to all be sent to slaughter for their pelts or to be sold as slaves. In the peek of primitive technology some were even captured from experiments, held for days in labs without food or water. Some were released and some managed to escape, but most were never seen again. Animal tribes became fewer and fewer as they lived in fear of being captured and killed so they went into hiding keeping their locations secret.

Type of Tribes / Species

Canine

Notes: Canines are at war with a few other tribes, namely the feline tribe though there are exceptions to every rule.

Element: They have no specific element but those who can use magic have one as their primary strength

Feline

Notes: Felines have little to do with anyone outside of their own people. They have a particular hatred for canine groups.

Element: They have no specific element but those who can use magic have one as their primary strength

Winged

Notes: The winged tribes don’t really have too much to fear, nor do they really hate anyone unless they try to attack them. They can be a little cocky, however, due to their rule over the skies.

Element: Wind

Hoofed

Notes: The hoofed tribes are fairly easy going but live in fear of being food for just about anyone. Despite their calm nature if they are threatened they can be brutally violent.

Element: Earth

Fin*

Notes: Mostly the Fin tribes reside in the water and don’t stray too far from it making them rarely seen. They mostly keep to themselves but like to play pranks on humans and sometimes other creatures to fend them away from their waters.

Element: Water

Other Species that don’t normally form tribes but societies (cities, villages, etc.) or may be solo:

Humans

Notes: Humans are a large part of the population of Nao but live in fear of the animal tribes and seek to wipe them all out. They organize fur and slave trades for them and even use them in their brutal experiments. But not all humans are bad some stray to a different path and believe there is good in every creature and seek to help the animal tribes secretly.

Element: They have no specific element but those who can use magic have one as their primary strength

Dragons*

Notes: Dragons are a dying race and thus are rarely seen. Having the ability of flight, use of fire and white magic, dragons were the greatest threat to the humans so they were taken down first leaving only a handful that now hide in a small community in the desert oasis.

Element: Fire, White Magic

Demons

Notes: Demons are dark creatures the reside on their own and live to torment any living thing. Some have a more tolerable nature but they constantly struggle with themselves to do the wrong thing.

Element: Dark magic

* this means that these forms will be rare and hard to get a character for

Regarding Pets

If you want a pet by all means but keep in mind the rules because certain pets will count against your character limit and some won't. If you have a pet that's like a normal cat, bird, dog, tiny dragon etc that is loyal, can obey certain commands and follows your character around then that will not count against your character limit. If your pet can communicate with you and others, cast spells, and generally do other things that a normal pet can't then they will count against your character limit and need a character profile made out for them. If you have questions about this please ask in the main welcome thread.

Regarding NPC

You can make your own NPC that your character can briefly interact with without them counting against your character limit.

Extra Stuff

There are crosses of species from above (half-breeds). Depending on the cross determines where they live though most are generally solo. Any animal / human cross will generally stick with their animal tribe since humans will shun them from their cities and villages. Any animal / demon cross will either stick with their animal tribe or go solo. Human / demon crosses are generally forced to go solo though some hide among the animal tribes. Dragons crossed with anything are very very rare but will always stay with their dragon brethren.

Not everyone can wield magic; it’s not so much a dying art but a hard one to learn. Most are born with the natural abilities but some can acquire them with lots of training. Some tribes have an element that is their primary focus and strength though they can wield and use other elements but they will not be as strong. Others that do not have a primary element are generally born with an ability to wield a certain element or they focus on one as their strength, but like the others they can use other elements they just won’t be as effective.
