*blink* It doesn't?

Erm... any suggestions?

well besides the face, none of it looks like the gorillaz.

i mean, its as though your trying to fool us into thinking 90 % of this picture is in the gorillaz style? and it isn't.

try looking at a bunch of gorillaz references, its not just about the face, senor.

Oookay.. kinda making me feel like I should be apologizing or something. sweatdrop Not trying to "fool" anyone into anything.

In any case, you make a valid point.... I did use references for style but I didn't manage to translate them all that well, I guess. For one thing I can see I needed to make the arms and legs much longer.

I think part of it is because your lines are a lot more organic; when opposed to the clean, almost vector shapes in a lot of the published gorillaz art and videos, you can tell that you've incorporated more of your style, and strayed from straight out copying (a good thing!).
Although, if you do want it to look more like gorillaz' style, you could try flattening out the shapes a bit maybe, and jamie hewlett tends to put 2d and murdoc in lanky, square-crotched bodies, with flat, long feet...

You need angles and attitude to make this work. I can see the influence, and I wouldn't agressively say that it's "not Gorillaz enough", because that's silly. I just think some taller, more angular shapes could do you some good, anyway. I love things to be jaunty.

Read Tank Girl if you like gorillaz art. It's the same artist (jamie somethingorother) and there is more of it and it's even more nuts like that.

I own the collected Tank Girl and it's all awesome.

I do sort of agree with the other kids though. It's not extremely gorrillaz-y but it's also not like that is a bad thing.

Thanks much for the constructive crits guys! You've given me some useful stuff to work with. 3nodding heart I was trying to go more with this most recent Gorillaz style, which is a teeny bit less vector than the old one, but you're totally right. Old habits die hard. gonk

Jamie Hewlett :]

I've always loved tank girl, and there's a compilation (of 4 all of JH's tank girl comic books) out by DarkHorse or something if you want to read it, since the comics are long out of print.

Though, if you've seen the movie, it's sort of confusing, because the movie isn't related to the comic at all. So, when reading the comics, it's easier to understand if you disregard everything from the movie and just assume it's a whole different story, with the same characters, and the storyline in the movie doesn't exist.

EDIT: aha! http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=45-105 (provides ISBN & retailers)
