*Taken from ~xcgirl08s pic thingy*

"Remember Koh, how he showed Aang the face of the woman he'd killed: the loved one of a former Avatar? Apparently she was a Water Tribe woman named Ummi, wife of Avatar Kuruk. So, then...

Hue said that the visions in the swamp were of people that Sokka/Katara/Aang had loved: people they had lost. And perhaps Aang's vision really WAS of someone that fit the description: perhaps Toph is the 'reincarnation' (I don't believe in reincarnation. But the show seems to, so there you go....) of this Ummi. If time is an illusion, does that mean he is going to love her?

For the full theory (and much more in-depth, amazing speculations) go here"

Plausible?Ridiculous?

What do you think?

It seems plausible to me, though I'm not sure. I hope it' true, 'cause that would make me a very happy taang-shipper.

I'll have to read the more in-depth theory later.

In the game "escape from the spiritworld" Aang tells Kuruk, that Ummi is still alive, if I am not mistaken? So Koh just took her, and she still lives in Koh, as her face has been taken...

I don't care if she's a past dead person or not I just want Taang to happen. Although your theory does mesh into the other theory that Kou is going to steal toph's face

That would be kind of hard, don't you think? Toph is a blind aristocrat. She can school her features perfectly and she can't see Koh, so he can't scare her (though I'm inclined to believe that even if she could see he would be able to frighten her). In fact, I think that's exactly why Toph was a true gift of the Gods to Aang (if you can't tell, I'm a Taang fan) because if he could gather up the cohones to realise his true feelings for both Katara and Toph and manage to earn the earthbender's love, Koh can't take her away, which seems to be the fate of all the Avatars' lovers.

...that just gave me a marvelous fanfic idea, yay.

Well there's a branch of the theory that says that Toph somehow goes to the spirit world with Aang, but as you know, people can't bend in the spiritworld. Therefore, without her bending, Toph wouldn't be able to see at all! Though that is up for debate, depending on your view on whether Toph's blindness should be with her or not in the spirit world, or it should just be her spirit, which as we also know, is anything BUT blind. So it could be the first time she DOES see.

But anyway, going with the first option, she can't see without her bending, so for once, Toph has a weak point. They encounter Koh, and since she can't see him at all now, it might be a little easier to surprise her(because BAMF or not, Toph is still young and still human and without a perfectly honed sense) especially with how Koh moves around all the time. She wouldn't be able to place him. Maybe they even meet him before Aang has a chance to warn her not to show emotion.

Oh, maybe, if we go along with the whole reincarnation part of the theory, with her being the reincarnation of Ummi, perhaps that history with Koh will make her feel uneasy like a sense of deja-vu! Ohh I might use that for my comic...

And then, the much less entertaining route to the story, Koh just up and snatches her face before Toph even knows what's happening and totally to the surprise of Aang.

So there's a couple ways it could work, but it's one of my favorite theories for this show, and I wish that it would have happened...It would have given an amazing depth to the show and the characters, and the ending would have impressed me the way the rest of the show did before the third season. Also would have made the nightmare in Nightmares and Daydreams make sense too!
(no I will NEVER let that one go. You just don't mess with dream sequences for nothing!!)

Very valid points, but when you really think about Koh's character, you realise he's not necessarily evil. He's just doing what he was created to do. In fact, the reason he took Ummi in the first place was because she was keeping the avatar from doing what he must.

Koh's character type suggests that he won't come to Toph without giving Aang sufficient warning, you know, like when your mother counts down before a spanking, especially since he seems like he likes to hear himself talk. During which time Toph would probably have been warned (unless Aang is being a deuch).

Another thing to consider about Toph is that she's an amazing actress and she's taken down many a terrifying adversary whether she'd "seen" them or not. Besides, she has excilent hearing, so she would hear Koh aproach since his legs make that creepy sound (when you lose one sense your other senses improve to compensate for the disability).

But who knows, it could go either way. I personally love all the possibilities Koh's character presents because he's not all evil, but he's definately not good. He's the type that tells no lies but doesn't give you the entire truth. He's holding all the card and know the outcome of every move, like he has ESP.
