Many of Duniya knew of the Divine Order. They all had varying thoughts of the religious body, but most held some measure of respect for them whether it was for their devotion to the Pantheon or for their willingness to cope with the unreliable Duniya gods. The Divine Order did not typically involve itself in the everyday affairs of its residents, but something about the uniqueness of the existence of the Tabula Rasa had intrigued the gods.

The Order contained the gods' messengers, and so, the Divine Order learned that they must interfere with these 'Tabula Rasa'--blank slates born out of Rasa. The particular reasons for the gods' interference was unknown, but no matter if Locke particularly agreed to it or not, the new manifests were to be brought to the Divine Order--specifically, Shakuni--immediately upon manifestation.

Shakuni herself was a deeply devout priestess of the Order. It was said that the gods had touched her themselves, and therefore she held a deep connection and affinity to the affairs of the gods. Shakuni was a leader in the Order and perhaps the most important messenger of them all. To be called to bring the Tabula Rasa to the gods meant that the Tabula Rasa held some deep significance. The certain significance was, as of currently, unknown, but one did not question the gods' wishes.

Another manifestation had arrived-- Gavin. It was time.

As routine before she had to present someone with the gods, Shakuni entered a meditative state where she could speak with her gods. No matter what, she kept alert for the sounds around her, to make sure she would not find herself surprised and to make sure she knew exactly when the manifestation would enter.

If the gods wished to meet all the manifestations, Shakuni would be the vessel which would allow that.

(( The gods have spoken through their faithful servant! They have decreed that all new manifestations are to be brought to the attention of the Divine Order and brought to Shakuni, their faithful messenger, as soon as possible.

This PRP thread is reserved for the manifestation Gavin.

This introductory post is very similar to the ones of the other Tabula because the Divine Order and Shakuni have not been known very long; it gives you a chance to get to know them as well. ))

Gavin tilted his head as he padded into the temple, dressed in a simple, knee-length cotton shift--much to the displeasure of everyone involved in his dressing this morning (except, of course, for Gavin. The flowing garments offered to females were more elegant and prettier than those offered to the male summons, and Gavin was a great devotee of beauty. If he was to be clothed, then he would be clothed prettily).

He looked around with interest, eyes bright, head turning swiftly from side to side like a curious bird's. So many interesting things. So much intricate sculpting. Pretty things. His attention flitted for a bit, settling mostly on shiny things, for a minute or two.

Eventually, he settled enough to focus on the woman who was, as far as he could tell, waiting for him. "Hello," he said brightly, "am I here for you, or are you here for me?"

He was curious about the woman. What would she think of him? Would she admonish his dress like everyone else did? Or was this so serious that even his lack of trousers would be overlooked?

Shakuni's brow furrowed as she looked on at the manifestation. He certainly looked male... but was wearing a dress. It wasn't much of a shock, considering the Tabula seemed to be anything but normal, but she hoped she got the gender right when addressing it-- him. Yes, she'd decided he was indeed male. All male Tabula did, after all, look alike.

She smiled slightly at his question. How soon would he learn! "Neither. We are both here for the gods."

When he caught sight of Shakuni's initial expression upon seeing him, Gavin gave a short bow and a dazzling smile, hoping to distract her from his peculiar attire. He really would rather that she pay attention to him and not his bare legs.

Shakuni's answer puzzled Gavin, and he glanced around the temple. Gods, well...that made sense. It was a temple, after all. So the gods wanted Gavin? His smile widened as he turned back to the woman. "The gods? Will I get to meet some? Will they like me, do you think?" His expression grew grave at this question, and for the first time Gavin lost his slightly giddy happiness. It would be so terrible to meet the gods only to find that they didn't like his attire either.

"Should I have worn trousers, do you think?" he asked. What if he upset the gods? That would be horrible! "Will they be upset?"

Shakuni's smile widened at the dazzling one he'd sent at her, and even more so as he talked on about the gods. She was glad some of them were actually interested in something that was so important to them.

"If they so wish, you will meet them. I am sure someone will come down and talk to you today." She tilted her head at his next question. Shakuni wasn't so sure how to answer that one...

"The gods are all different; they like different things. The gods choose Tabula they have an affinity with, so I am sure that you will find a god with whom you share a strong bond. As for trousers, the gods do not bother with such worldly things. But I believe you will find yourself attracting much less unwanted attention in Odisse if you invest in a nice pair. Now," Shakuni said, moving towards the Tabula, "are you ready?"

Gavin tilted his head to one side and then the other as Shakuni talked, sort of listening to her, but not really. He was getting distracted by the woman's eyes. They were pretty. He opened his mouth to tell her so, but then Shakuni mentioned gods coming down to talk to him and snapped to attention again.

And then she was talking about gods and trousers. Apparently, they didn't get along? Wait... "But if the gods don't care, then why would...ready?"

Gavin blinked. His mind flicked through half a dozen things, none of which had anything to do with meeting gods but had more to do with trousers. If he could find beautiful ones, then maybe....but wait. Gods. Trousers--no! Gods but not trousers!

Oh, he had been asked a question, hadn't he? Gavin blinked, thoughtfully inserted his thumbnail into his mouth, gnawed on it, and then straightened his skirt. "Yes, I think so! It might be nice to meet them!"

Maybe they would like him anyway. At least they didn't care about trousers.

Or something.

"Alright." She clapped once and the hall was immersed in darkness.

Silence filled the room, and after a few moments, a faint, dull glow began to form in the corners of the hall, gathering into the center. Shakuni stayed where she was, still, rooted to the ground. Her eyelids were slowly beginning to close...

And they snapped open again.

"Tabula, it is time for you to make your choice. Then you may be permitted to meet with us."

The glow was forming into a multitude of tiny lights, swirling around a white stone fountain, separating into a spectrum.

Oooh.....what was happening? Was it supposed to happen? Gavin peered into the darkness, frowning a little bit as he found it difficult to see anything at all, even silhouettes.

Then something lit, and Gavin's head snapped around, again like a bird, trying desperately to find the peculiar source of the shining. It was very pretty, and sent long shadows dancing around him. Gavin followed the tracery of lights into the center where Shakuni stood, about to ask her what was going on, not quite realizing the gravity of the situation. Shakuni's eyes were closed, though. Gavin tilted his head, about to whisper his question.

Shakuni's eyes opened, and Gavin jumped back, skirt flaring up and then falling back around his knees. The woman's voice was strange, and...the glowing was changing. Little dancing lights....flickering starlike points, sparkling, pretty....

Like living diamonds. Gavin tilted his head and approached the fountain, drawn to the warmer colours, one hand outstretched inches from the lip of the fountain, as if he could pick up the sparkles and settle them in his hair and around his neck, like jewels. He paused at the violet lights, passed his hand by the white, and then tilted his head at the next two choices. Pale pink and deep magenta. Lovely.

Taking a step back, Gavin frowned and bit his lip. Was he supposed to be called to one of them? He closed his eyes and took a step forward, outstretching both his hands this time. He hovered near the deeper pink, then stretched his hands out over the pale rose lights.

"This one..." he said softly, but his voice held a quaver of uncertainty. His brow furrowed for a moment, and then he nodded. "Yes. This one."

The rose lights began to glow more brightly, slowly extending its rays until the other lights faded into the darkness, overcome.

"Are you sure? This is the path of Shringara-- of love."

The deep male voice that emanated from Shakuni's body seemed an odd fit; the voice echoed and bounced off the walls of the temple in the silence.

"I think this is right for you. Do you think so?"

Gavin jumped and twitched when he heard the voice that was most obviously not Shakuni's. He took a long step back and stared at the woman with wide eyes. Love...love?

Well...love made sense, he supposed. Love seemed...right? Seemed right?

Gavin wasn't good at making decisions, and he was confused for a moment. "Love," he repeated thoughtfully. "Love."

He fiddled with his skirt for a moment and then nodded.

"Yes, I think so. It seems right."

"Good. You wouldn't want to wait any longer for this, would you?"

The voice faded away as a dull flickering appeared at Shakuni's feet. The spot flickered intermittently a few times until it stopped, suddenly. Shakuni coughed and fell to her knees, her hair spread across her eyes.

Her eyes opened slowly and followed the path in front of her, resting on the small, wooden key that lay in front of her. It was thin, covered in ornate carvings and smelled faintly of rose water. Shakuni blinked and her eyes rose to meet Gavin's.

"Is... is this... yours? What is it?"

The entire situation was most bewildering, and it left Gavin's head reeling as he tried to make sense of what had just happened. His eyes flicked repeatedly to the sparkling light at Shakuni's feet, and then traveled to the woman as she fell.

He was at her side quickly, crouched down with a hand on her shoulder, concern in his bright eyes. "Are you all right?" he asked, forgetting the light for a moment when he thought something bad might have happened and it was his fault. Then his gaze traveled down to the key on the ground.

"Ooh!" he crooned, leaning down and picking it up. It was wooden and therefore shouldn't have had a significant difference in temperature, but it felt warm in his hand, friendly. "It's pretty, he breathed, turning it over in his hands and momentarily forgetting that Shakuni had asked a question of him.

"Um," he said when he realized what she had said. "I think it's mine. It feels like mine." Realizing that since it had not been explicitly given to him and had appeared at Shakuni's and not his feet, he blushed a little bit and held it out. "But it's probably not. Here."

"Uhh... thank you for your assistance. I am fine." Shakuni laid a hand over the one on her shoulder and shakily stood to her feet. She watched, her breathing slowly returning to normal, as the boy bent down to pick up the key. No doubt a gift of the gods. She smiled slightly as he held out the key towards her shyly and she closed her around his, creating around the piece of wood a fist of the boy's hand.

"No, I rather think it is yours. And suited to you. It is from the gods-- a gift of theirs. For what purpose, I do not know. I am sure you will find the right use for it."
