Jaded's IRL DnD Campaign! Story
In the kingdom of Tallaghan a silent, secretive, and very notorious war is at hand, and has been for the past 50 years. Now, the recent King Thiodore of the past 3 years, which is quite a long time for a Tallaghan King, is in fear for his life, yet again.
~King Thio was the son of a Baron. He refused the title of king but his unhappy wish-widower forced him to accept.
~Throughout the past 50 years the royal line has had so many assassination attempts that the royal family disappeared 18 years ago, and the council has been upgrading nobility ever since.
King Thio’s informers tell him of a plot to murder him, yet again. Sadly though his mother, and diviner, passed away but a week ago. The young king finds his life in danger on the night of the kingdom’s national holiday. Of course he had mercenaries hired in secret and they saved him from Death’s grasp for the 6th time since he became king.
Sadly, during the feast celebrating the king’s survival, he is poisoned. No one had assumed that the killers may have had a secondary plan incase his death wasn’t met. He was poisoned, (redundant eh?), his body on the floor, writhing in pain. Hours later during the next morning, they found him in the form of a Toad. A replacement was quickly found to undertake an illusion spell.
The mercenaries were given 3 months to find a cure for their king, for the magic placed upon him was not a natural Arcane Spell, simply lifted off of the king by some normal mage or cure.

User: Tipy Cleavage Penguin
Name: Elengeld Bendark
Race: Gnome
Class: Thaumaturgist
History: The Bendark family has always been gifted and inspired by phenomena. And so, they sought out the magic dealing with everything miraculous, and made it their signature. The Bendark family developed their new magick further, and they wandered the land in caravans, rescuing those who needed their powers. Some viewed the Bendarks as heretics and "gypsies", but they did not commit crimes or practise directly harmful magick.
Elengeld is the last of the Bendarks. He heard about the King's dilemma and left to see what he could do. He promised his family he would have a wife by the time he came back.
Description: Elengeld is a 56 year old male gnome. For a Bendark, he already has excellent potential, despite his comparatively young age. He is constantly hounded by his family to find a wife, although Elengeld is concentrating more on his magic at the moment.
Special Traits: Elengeld's thaumaturgy seems to focus more on the effects it can have on the natural environment, rather than the paraterrestrial magic most of his forefathers practised. He is more adept within nature than within urbania. He has an interestt in plants, and can usually name and describe ones he comes across.

Name: The Fool
Race: Looks to be humanoid, if somewhat paler than most humans. Her accent suggests that she is foreign, not unusual for jesters.
Class: Skald
History: The Fool serves as the court jester. However, her jokes alternate between sharp satire of political matters and outright buffoonery. Her ridiculous manner is something of an act; she has been trained to defend her king at all costs. This has been kept a secret from most of the populace to preserve her usefulness. She considers herself to have failed her Lord by allowing him to be poisoned and has chosen to accompany the mercenaries (in disguise) to find a cure. Also she's bored. The king's a frog; doesn't need much protecting.
Her history before coming to the court is similarly a secret. The Fool's musical style suggests that she's from the Southern lands, but the make of her sword is unmistakably Northern. Whatever she is, the Fool is extremely devoted to the king.
Description: Disturbingly pale. Seems slightly stretched, tall and gaunt, with long appendages. Moves disjointedly, but with odd grace. Has grey hair and brown eyes. It is unknown whether she acts mad or is mad, but either way she comes off as extremely creepy. Uses a low level illusion spell and a thick robe to disguise herself when necessary.
Special Traits: Has typical bardic abilities: singing, low level rogue abilities, knows a couple first level spells, knows lore, and such. Can also juggle, tumble, and use a rapier (inscribed Memento Mori) with average proficiency, knives with low level proficiency. Uses these weapons because they are relatively easy to hide on one's person.
Weaknesses: Lower hit die than warriors, fewer hit points, lower weapon proficiency, etc. Felt necessary to include because skald is such a ridiculously awesome class. Seriously. It's ridiculous.

Name: Della Harsliver.
Race: Half-elf
Class: Wizard-slayer
History: Della first discovered she was magic resistant when she was very young, when her father tried to teleport them both away from danger and failed. A radical elven purist group had attacked their village filled with a mixture of half-elves, elves, and humans, blasting most of the place to flaming rubble. Her father returned to protect her and was killed trying to sneak her out on foot. Enraged, she attacked the two closest mages. They continued blasting her with fireballs, with more and more desperation, right up until she sliced their chests open. Another villager managed to drag her away before she suicide charged the rest of the group. Although she doesn't hate all magic-users, Della decided to use her magic-resistance and became a wizard slayer. She does have a deep mistrust of clerical spells because she's not used to experiencing magic of any sort. Very suceptible to their spells.
Description: Long brown hair that she ties back in an elaborate bun under her helmet while fighting. Has very pale blue eyes, giving her an appearance of being blind. She sometimes exploits this. Wears a lot of anti-cleric pendants, most of which are superstitious charms and do nothing. There are a few real ones which give her limited resistance to bad cleric spells.
Special Traits: Is completely magic resistant when it comes to wizards and sorcerers but not priests (which is cheating, but I don't want to break a leg and have to drop out for six weeks) though which means evil clerics can still hurt her with their magic. This means she cannot be affected by good spells either like ones that increase stat bonuses. Sorry if that's confusing. Has the racial bonuses of a half-elf.

Name: Julien Salvator, usually known by his last name.
Race: Human
Class: Mercenary
History: Julien grew up as a child of a brothel owner, and so spent much of his life around women. Therefore, he is very confident around the fairer sex, and often visits the local brothels, much to the delight of the girls that worked there. He was hired by the King for protection just over a year ago.
Julien was then hired by someone who happened to know of his.. unique skill, basically wanting a little bit of amusement in his life. Julien could definately relate.
Now that the king is a toad, the man who hired him has allowed him to 'play a part' in curing the king. Because of course there would be substantial reward on whoever could find the cure. Plus, Julien and his employer both thrive on amusement, and watching the other mercenaries bumble around trying to find a cure would definately count as such.
Description: 27 years of age.

Special Traits: He is able to turn people into toads. He is also able to return them to their normal state, but only on the days that his nails are purple. They change colour quite a bit, but purple is a rarity.

Name: Lorena Fireshield
Race: Human
Class: Divine defender (Warrior/cleric [Cooler than paladins. Less moral codes ])
History: Lorena is a warrior who found her god. Trained as a fighter, she later took on the roll of a hired protector. Her services were so highly prized that she was hired at a preposterous rate. During the last attempt on King Thio’s life, Lorena was pursuing the last offenders, and was in remorse over the fact that she failed in her duties.
Anyway, back to history. After she left the fighters school, she hired herself out as a mercenary for a few years. Near the end of this time she was protecting a caravan of monks and found that one of the protectors was like herself, only a devout follower of Saint Cuthbert. After chatting to the warrior, she felt that Saint Cuthbert was attempting to tell her that he could help her protect people better. Without loosing her fighter training, she went to a monastery and became a divine defender. Since then, she has devoted her life to Saint Cuthbert and those she has been protecting.
Description: Lorena is a 29yr old, average height woman with pale blond hair in a pony tail and fair skin susceptible to burning. Not overly pretty, she has a few scars on her arms, legs and one small curving one above her right eyebrow. She always wears her enchanted banded armour, made from thin strips of metal, which is etched with rows of runes along a few of the bands. The armour protects her torso, upper legs and upper arms, giving her enough freedom of movement for casting spells. Her weapons of choice are a longsword and a mace. Most of the time she just fights with the longsword, but she does like to show off her skills occasionally and use both weapons.
Special Traits: Besides her abilities in protective and healing magic, Lorena has some mind reading abilities and an almost sixth sense of when danger is near. This has made her who she is today.

Class: Swashbuckler
History: (I’ll give you all the summary, for this is an unplayed DnD character of mine that I love. *Other DM forbids Swashbuckers.* Pshaw, he’s such a kill joy.)
Nadine came from the noble house Ulrich in a port town far away from this current kingdom. She had left her cozy home and large fortune to be with a man her father would never approve of, and as she did this she also changed her religion from worshipping Pelor to Evening Glory, the goddess of beauty and undeath. This was because she’d fallen in love with a man who’d saved her from being soiled by filthy human pirates, and she later discovered his life as a vampire, and the Pirate Lord Garlor. She became his bride, and for 4 years she lived happily by his side, until she turned 18 and he left her during the night in a port, only leaving her a note expressing his love and a reason for his leaving. He’d been summoned by his goddess to do her bidding, but he would return, and when he did he’d give her the curse of eternal life, so they could live forever in undeath with each other. Now she searches for him, her lover, fetched away by the gods themselves.
Description: She stands 5’9” with a slender, yet well toned build. Her dark brown hair is in curls, her green eyes a piercing hue of green. One would see a gown much more befitting of her soft face and delicate hands, but she’s almost always seen wearing clothes befitting of a swashbuckler or duelist.
Special Traits: Nadine, despite her race, had picked up dark vision, a necessity from being forced into the darkness so much, of course upon her own free will. And as her class entails, she has exceptionally good accuracy and evasive skills. She’s not very sturdy for a fighter though, with her lack of strong armor. She’s quite skilled with poisons, and usually applies these to her spiked chain.User: Pheonixstormclaw
Name: Onus Sage
Race: Elf ((Could Phe really be anything else?))
Class: Wizard
History: Soon after birth, Onus was taken from civilisation, whisked away to an ancient Arcane Order; the 'Sapere'. It was among this almost omnipotent organisation that Onus flourished; he found a family, studied the wondrous mystery of magic, and he rose through the meritocratic ranks swiftly and steadily, showing an aptitude that no other mage had acquired. By the time of his bicentenary, Onus had been promoted to Archmage, but he received his post of command during the waning years of the Sapere. It wasn't long before rival groups began preying upon Onus' brethren, and during one particularly devastating assault on his fortress, the Archmage fell victim to a horrendous curse that took his knowledge of spells away. Without a leader to protect it, the members of the Sapere were destroyed, all except Onus, who now carries the burden of his Order's demise.
Since then, he has become a vagabond, travelling in an attempt to relearn every spell that was once in his repertoire, but it is difficult due to the destruction of his spellbooks. Onus eventually heard rumours of potent spellbooks within the kingdom of Tallaghan, and thusly hastened to meet with the king hoping that his goal could be achieved.
Description: For a 317 year-old, Onus is incredibly lithe and maintains a youthful air. But of course, being an elf does have its advantages. He is by no means muscular, but what can be seen of his thin frame beneath the shroud of dark blue robes indicates that he isn't malnourished.
Special Traits: Doesn't require somatic components to any spells, and doesn't understand why. Upon initiation into the 'Sapere', Onus received a blue wren familiar named Irano.

Because it's not supposed to be well known, and is supposed to be a secret, and many people do this quite well. But because a few chamber maids work in brothels in their spare time, words slip with a little too much ale. Heck, you'd get s**t faced too if you knew you'd have to sleep with men that... (Deleted Comment. I'm Pro-Dema, but not that cruel... Tis why I Illusion things and throw tea cups. But to you Xelan's, they will appear to be your hideously fat spouses. Muah Ha Ha!... I think I'm done...)
