The day was bright, if chill, a few puffy clouds scattered above. The shadow shifting restlessly amid the normal shadows beneath a patch of foliage gazed distastefully at the bright space just beyond. Not that the light had any real effect on him. He simply found it distasteful, unless it was the light of a bright heart. That light was oh so entrancing...
He stretched a paw forward, long, spindly claws glowing blue in the light of a moon that no one else could see. Idle curiosity perhaps, to catch a more definitive glimpse of himself in this world, but he tired of it shortly and withdrew his paw into the shadow again.

Cyralthein was out for a walk on this pleasant afternoon. Alone, as always, the deep blue Kitsu walked with his head down to watch the ground before him. All was quiet and serene, simple but for him something was missing, he could feel it. Something important and he didn't know what. It bothered him to no end.
Pursing his lips he paused midstride as a shadow shifted. Having an affinity for the darkness himself, the pink-eyed male started towards the bushes where he could see a form sitting - inky and looming. While not a coward, he did approach with caution, you just never knew when something nasty might pop out and attack.
A long paw reached out and then retreated, causing Cyr to blink. What...? That had looked like another kitsusagi.... Adjusting his wings and lashing his tails, he crept forward once more, long and lean as he stretched out. "Hello...?"

Darkside peered sideways at the summons, his boredom lifting just the slightest notch at seeing this other of most curious appearance. Not strange, perhaps. He'd seen stranger among his lesser Heartless brethren. But to see a creature as dark and inky as he himself was... that indeed had a heart, and was not a Heartless... he felt an odd sort of kinship, if you will.
The voice he returned the greeting with was deep, but soft, and echoed slightly inside the mind. For that is where his voice spoke; he had no true vocal chords, and so his communications drifted directly to the minds of those he spoke to. It wasn't directed in precisely the same way as telepathy, but had the same general effect. -Greetings...-

Cyralthein blinked as he was addressed not out loud but mentally. Pausing, his pink, slightly glowing eyes narrowed, "You won't step into the light?" A valid question, he thought. One the other would surely answer... and perhaps give him to clues as to what, exactly, he was speaking to.
A peer, maybe? Surely not a monster. Bunching up so that he was sitting properly, the reincarnated soul fluttered his wings curiously. The voice hadn't been cruel or intimidating, rather pleasant actually. Leaning forward slightly, he peered into the shadows trying to discern the other's form, "What do you call yourself?"
That was a good place to start, right? Such introductions often lead to further conversation, no?

He wasn't feeling particularly social at the moment... though he rarely felt like being sociable in the first place. Perhaps it was his unusual lack of success in finding those he'd been sent here for. Or it could simply be the bright, sunny day. He preferred the night, or storm ridden weather. Or both. Though he was more likely to learn something of value in regards to his prey during pleasant weather, and so here he was. Though really, he normally didn't care one way or the other about the weather, so it was probably a mixture of his unsuccessful hunt and a desire to vent his frustrations on something.
But not a person, no. He needed people to find out what he wanted to know, and just because one didn't know what he desired now didn't mean they wouldn't find out later. Darkside decided answering was in his better interest. -Won't. I could. But I'm not in the mood for sunny right now.- He peered at Cyralthein with his glowing eyes, perhaps the only part of him readily visible in the midst of the shadows he lounged in, wondering what subconscious instinct had prompted that particular question.
Not a monster. Oh, how Darkside would have laughed at that. Maybe not a monster in the strict sense of the word, maybe not so much of one as his mindless Heartless peers, but many would say the shadow being qualified as one. In their minds perhaps more so because he did what he did knowingly. -I call me, others call me... Call me Darkside, if you will. And my little servant... is Shadow.-
Shadow scrambled forward to sit atop Darkside's head, peering down at Cyralthein with his own smaller pair of glowing eyes from amid Darkside's writhing "hair". He either didn't know or didn't care that he was displaying his timidity rather blatantly.

He blinked, not in the mood...? Then he laughed and shook his head, rising to enter the shadows as well, "Well then, I shall join you." A courteous, almost regal nod as he followed the bob and bounce of the glowing eyes. When he entered the darkness, he seemed to fade into it as well - such was his colouring. Pink eyes turned intense as they adjusted to the gloom, "Darkside, hnn? And Shadow?" He dipped into a brief bow, "Pleasure to meet you."
Flicking his tail and stretching slightly, the dark kitsu regarded Darkside, making out his form now that the light didn't make it impossible. After a moment, he spoke, never one to let silences drag, "What brings you here?"

Darkside watched other with a cool sort of interest as he joined him in the shadows. Seeing the other fade from view in much the manner he himself did when he wasn't actively pooling into the shadows themselves made him somehow comfortable. -Pleasure to meet you as well, so far. What are you called, then?-
The silence was thoughtful for a moment before he "sighed" at the other's next question. -Seeking a certain group of persons. They arrived here long before I did, and I fear they may have moved on. A person of import has requested I find them, a matter of an inheritance. This was their last known location.- And in a rather twisted manner it was all true.

"Cyralthein" He answered with a grin. What an interesting fellow he thought once the other had explained his reasons for sulking in the shadows. "And here I thought direct light might be damaging to you." He laughed goodnaturedly, nodding.
"Inheritance? An important task then. I have not seen many but perhaps I could aid you? What does the person look like?" Might as well find something to do, right?

Ah, but Darkside did enjoy getting others to unwittingly help him set a trap. -One of them has a pelt that looks like the night sky, with some purple markings. The others I am not sure of, but as far as I know they should be with him, or at least contactable by him.- That was probably part of his trouble... not knowing precisely what the others were supposed to look like in this world. Though really, the one called Endless was of the most import, the others were more... insurance, of a sort.
But, as if to prove the point perhaps, or simply because he wanted to see what the other thought, he stuck his head out in the sunlight for a moment. Only Darkside knew Darkside's reasoning, and he rarely explained himself. His lip curled slightly, the shadow coils of his "mane" shifting back as close to the shade as they could in protest to being out of the comfortable shadows. The moonlit highlights that gave further definition to his black shape shone dully in spite of the bright light, and faded from view quickly when he pulled his head back. -I am a creature of night time by habit. And by appearance. My appearance tends to frighten those... less open minded.-

Night sky pelt with purple markings? Cyr shook his head, yawning. "No, I haven't seen that one." He blinked as Darkside stuck his head out in the light and laughed softly, "You're not a spider. You're fine." He could understand that the other frightened people... he was dark and unknown, associated with the night and therefore probably one of those terrors. It was something he felt a kinship to, though why this was so, he did not know.

Ah. No luck... at least not yet. Ah well, at least he had something that thus far resembled pleasant company. It was far better than boredom and fruitless waiting. He looked out of the corner of his eye at the other. -You are unfond of spiders, then? Any particular reason?- They didn't bother Darkside... but then there were very few things Darkside had any need to be afraid of.
