Who: Naoki & Chi's Coffee, Juunigatsu
What: random meeting
Where: just inside the licorice swamp
When: late October. Weekend before Halloween. Morning.
Why: Been a while since Naoki's seen a coffee. Should be fun. ^_^ A large light brown paw slipped into the molasses just inside the first row of licorice trees inside the swamp with a sickening slurp. The candy male grimaced as he pulled it free, trying to shake the sticky substance from his fur. A blur of blue fluttered near his head, chittering angrily. The numa brushed the butterfly away with his clean forepaw, green eyes focused on where he would step next. "Hussssh Thanh. I'd kweh think you'd be happy I'm kweh awake while the sssun'sss up."
The butterfly seemed to pout but was clearly admonished for it no longer fussed. The large candy male gave a small smile and a shake of his head, the flowered vines circling his body shifting with his movement as he padded along the edge of the swamp.

Out of the darkness of the graveyard that laid in the between the swamp and candy land- is where the rather small coffee was. A 3'12 foot tall coffee was rare indeed for a male. Hopefully he'd get bigger but that was a very slim chance. After visiting Armageddon- his dark candy brother. He bidded to go on an adventure. Adventure huh? Well.. he never been REALLY far in to the swamps.. in fact. He didn't have much recollection of the swamps in his past... As he walked the line between coffee and candy.. his tail swung that lock and his necklace chimed as it hit his collar. Bouncing along the edge- not really looking at where he was going.
But once he started his lil adventure. It promptly was brought to an end when he was a bright brown frame being what seemed to be stuck. Well in his eyes.. He made his walk in to a run and without further talk- he stopped in mid step as soon as he got to the form. "ARE YOU OK!?" He exclaimed with worry across his face. His talons sunk in to his paw as he grabbed on to other's paw carefully. The one that was in the swampy ground.

ssssslllooooop!!! What had been his clean paw slipped deep into the edge of the swamp when Naoki brought it down -distracted by looking at his sticky paw and wondering if being awake during the day was really worth all this hassle. His green eyes blinked seeing his other paw in the muck now. A moment later they went wide at the sound of another numa's voice. His massive head lifted to see a coffee... coming straight for him! His first reaction was to look for a place to hide -and let's face it, there were few enough places a numa his size could hide anyway- only to be reminded that his paw was firmly stuck. "Wark!" It was almost humorous, seeing the candy male who was nearly 2 feet taller (or more -his mother Mysidia was average for a numa at five feet and Naoki dwarfed her though he had never stopped to be measured) than the coffee cringing & shaking with wide eyes.
Blink. Blink. Naoki shook his head from side to side in a soft motion as if he could not believe what he was hearing. And in truth he was finding it very difficult. He made a swipe at the butterfly to still its 'talk' with a sticky paw while still hunkering down. Thanh fled to a blossom out of reach of the light brown candy's paws. Eyes still wide but showing more shyness & curiosity now than fear & surprise. His head tilted as the charcoal and blue very small coffee lifted his paw from the mire of molasses. Naoki did not move but he relaxed. "Uhhh.... Thanksss."
Eyes as green as new leaves studied this other's face with a perplexed expression. Why had the coffee helped him?

Juu's innocent eyes looked to the other's beautiful green eyes. In awe as he looked up at the other.. "Ah.. Um. Help much?" He took the other's paw in to his.. and helped to take the other out. He noticed the small butterfly.. he blinked as he watched it disappear in to the other's fur. How odd. He used to see thoughs back in the day but recently he hadn't seen any. Then he examined more closely. Oh.. what beautiful brown fur..
He then snuggled his neck and back under the other and raised the larger numa up- then to the side which was much cleaner. He then planted himself in front of the other. In between the swampiness and the lands. He noticed the other was sorta shaking- he looked a little worried at the other. "Are- Are you alright there Sir?" He blankly said with a worry creeping over him. His tail started to wag with its chains. He wondered and took a few steps back.. but with that- he felt the swampiness under his paws. "Gauh." He looked down then went to the left more and more til he felt land.. He turned his back to the other- not in disrespect but he wanted to clean off his claws. Nasty thing! Slowly brushed his paws on the grass... and kept doing that until he finally finished and his paw was finished.
He turned back around to greet his jade eyes to the other's bright green ones. With a kind sort of innocent face... for a coffee- ... well more like a candy. He tail started to wag again slowly.. Sniffing a little to see if the other was hurt. He smelt wounds- ....

If Naoki could read thoughts -as some could in the home he visited with his mother far away from NNL where their human lived- he would have blushed that anyone might find his fur beautiful. As it was he burned crimson beneath his light brown fur as the small coffee snuggled beneath him. It startled Naoki so much he almost forgot to help the other help him away from the sticky swamp. Thanh chittered and he flicked his tail to silence the creature. He tilted his head at the other about to answer when the coffee stepped backwards into the molasses himself. Naoki warked in surprise instead, green eyes widening with concern this time instead of fear & taking one step closer as if to help in return. But the coffee freed himself without the candy's help and as he saw the other's charcoal & blue back Naoki realized he was cleaning the goop from his paws -a good idea. Sighing with a sheepish chuckled Naoki sat on his haunches, lifting his right paw to start cleaning the molasses from his fur. It was dark -much darker than the brown numa's fur- extremely sweet, and packed with flavor. He remembered it was used in gingerbread, but never in the quantities he was now ingesting. For one having grown up on both 'regular' food and candy it was almost too much.
He looked up to see the coffee's jade eyes looking at him. A clank as his tail wagged. Chains? Yes... Naoki had just been able to see that before being startled when the coffee stepped into the swamp. That was right! Naoki had forgotten about the question! Ooops! And after he had been helped too. "Yessss... Yesss. I am kweh all right. Sssorry. I..."
Leaf-green eyes crinkled in confusion and uncertainty. He was being... sniffed? Maybe it was a coffee thing? He seemed so... sweet for a coffee. Nothing like those two who stole the feathers. Naoki continued speaking with a blush between cleaning his paw, spreading his toes to clean between them and making sure none dripped from his vines on that paw. "I didn't kweh know coffee'sss could be nice." He set the clean paw down, blushing more as he looked the other over. "The othersss I sssaw when kweh sssearching for the kweh feathersss with Ma & the othersss were kweh cruel. And larger."
Looking away in shame for his presumptions -for maybe saying something that was unkind to his benefactor- Naoki set his left paw half cleaned lightly back on the ground. He could not know it for the molasses still sticking to it and the fact that he was still quite in shock that there was a cut on the pad of that paw.
"Sssorry... kweh thankssss. Um... I'm Naoki..."

 Juu's ears flickered and watched the candy over. "Coffee?Where!?" Juu's paws went up like a puppy. His tail flipping from one side to the next.
"Coffee can be nice? Isn't it a drink..not to mention very tastey. I-Ah..I.. err.. Well if coffee was mean that you shouldn't drink it cause its bad?" He blinked at other in confusion to why he thought coffee was mean and big? His tail swung from one side to the next as he was happy that the other was alright.. He himself hadn't met many coffees- and the ones he did meet were so big that it intimidated him..quite a bit.
"Hm?Sorry for what? And Ah. Yous has a nice..Naoki.. " His ears flicked some more as his maw licked the tiny licrorice drop on his nose. "My name Is Juunigatsu! Pleased to meet cha and-.. are you here by yourself? Or are there many of you? Are you lost?" He asked many questions in his confused but worried toned of voice. Blinking repeatedly from the minor scent so strong that caused his eyes to blink to recupporate from the intense flavoring scent.

 Blink. Blink. Naoki just sat there - wide eyed, paw held out almost to his face. This coffee numa... did not know he was a coffee numa? He only knew of the beverage? Naoki unlike perhaps other candy numa's did not mind the smell of coffee. Trelweny sometimes burned coffee scented candles at her house when he & Ma visited.
"eh... pleasssed to kweh meet you, Juunigatsssu." Leaf green eyes focused on Juun as he tried to acknowledge each of the rapid-fire questions. The small coffee confused him so. "Yesss & kweh no. Thanh isss kweh with me." He indicated the butterfly clinging to a pink flower near his haunches. "But no othersss. I sssuppossse you could kweh sssay there are many of ussss though." Naoki's brow crinkled with uncertainty as to how much he should say about that. Juunigatsu had helped him, but he really still did not know the coffee. "Not kweh lossst. Detour. To kweh avoid the sssun a while longer."
Well that was certainly working better than Naoki had anticipated. But still... he was not yet where he wanted to be: lounging contentedly in the sun upon the smooth curve of one of the large candy canes of the candy cane forest. Naoki sighed heavily, closing his eyes briefly.
Then they opened, looking intently and with curiosity at Juunigatsu. "But you... do kweh you not know you are a coffee numa?" His tone was not accusatory -more incredulous and filled with gentle disbelief with a trace of concern. Imagine not knowing what one was! The gentle giant's heart went out to Juun sympathetically.

"Ahh... Now i see... ello thar' Little one." His claw raised to wave at the little butterfly. Then his ears opened largely to hear the question- or rather the concern the other had.
"Coffee? Y-You mean the drink right?" He blankly stared at the other- wagging his tail. "Ah, you mean those big numas that lool like me right? Or- Are you talking about the drink because unfortunately I am not brown and in cupcaked shaped mugs.. " He looked at the candy much to his thoughts.
"But its good your not alone.. And YESH! They're many of yous! My whole family is made up of others like you." She gave a smile- sweetly as his long blue/blue hair picked up in to the wind and as it twirled- the coffee's eyes were set to the other's green ones.. As if he was trying to figure what this numa's thoughts were... His tiny angel/bat wings started to flutter but not enough to pick him up. Then he stepped back in caution...
His ears slicked back to his head as a quiver went down his spine.."I dont know why youd take a detour here.. Its rather scary..You could get away from the sun else where-" He tilted his head as he moved a little back towards the candy side but not completely- he was still in the swamp.. and the thick air of the swamps made his eyes glaze-and moist.

Thanh rubbed his feelers at the coffee in something of a greeting then ducked out of sight again. The large candy meanwhile was starting to feel a little... unsettled. It was not a fully unpleasant feeling, just he could not seem to look away with Juun's jade eyes so clearly upon his own. Naoki never held eye contact with anyone this long. Not even his own family. Yet as there was clearly no malice in this small coffee he could tolerate it for some reason though he did not understand it at all. Aside from that, the overlarge candy numa was quite perplexed. It showed clearly in his face and especially in his eyes. "Ye-esssssss." The 's's drew out longer than normal as Naoki hung onto the word. "The big kweh numasss that look like you. That isss kweh usssually what othersss call coffee numasss." Naoki's return smile shook a little in his shyness, eyes flicking from their joined gazes at the movement of Juun's bangs and wings.
He licked at his injured paw, looking over the top of it at Juunigatsu and not really noticing it. "Housssematesss you kweh mean?" Having both 'blood kin' and 'house-kin' Naoki was curious. For he did not think Coffee and Candy could surely be 'blood kin' ... could they? "I ssstay with othersss like me... and a Pocket." When they were in NNL of course. Lately he chose to stay here... it was easier to find seclusion and when visiting Trel's house in Gaia Naoki missed the large candy cane trees. "Ssscary? I kweh figured it would be quite sssolitary. Mossst kweh Candiesss do not venture in, mossst coffeesss kweh ssstay deeper." Now Naoki tried to turn his head but his eyes did not follow though they did close slightly. He whispered then, confessing something he seemed to have only then realized. "I'd kweh hoped Ma would not follow me here... but kweh I forget ssshe is foolissshly brave. And Aliccce & the Piper.... they are kweh boldly brave for all their madnesssss." His ears lay back and Naoki sighed heavily, cleaning the last traces of molasses from his paw -so stuck on his thoughts he did not notice the shift in the syrup's flavor as that of his scratched paw mingled slightly with it towards the end. "More foolisssh I. Otherwissse, it hasss kweh worked." Gaze on Juunigatsu Naoki's eyes opened fully, just watching as if quietly saying how he had come this far and the lone coffee was the only one he had come across. "If it'sss ssso ssscary... why kweh come here?"

"Oh.... Um.. Yes. They are my housemates then too. Heh, your house mates sound interesting though~ why would you be alone then." His mind started to concentrate for once. "I like being around candies..If your talking about the Numa Candies.. Ive met a few coffee. They seem.. so scary.. like you describe but if I go deeper.. I'd lose my way.. I haven't stayed deep for too long.. and Chi gets worried if I stay out too late.." His tail began to softly wag- chiming his chains as he straightened his back.
"Oh.. does it hurt?" Juu noticed the other's attention to the paw and he lightly came up to the other. Taking it in his paws light, gently, and carefully - turning to examine it... Her ears slanted behind him as he looked in deep concern.. He looked up at the other's bright emerald eyes- as his own had the dash of green..
"But.. not all of us are scary.." He softly like like a childhood secret one would share and hope no one knows about.
His though- was different. Acting more innocently and concerned.. With great care for what he does and above all. To others...

The large brown candy looked uncomfortable, ears flicking to defend his head against the blue butterfly that was chittering near them in what from the actions seemed to be a stern talking to. His voice when he spoke was so soft it almost could not be heard. "I jussst kweh like to be alone..." Was that it... or was he avoiding them for other reasons? Naoki loved his mother -it was hard not to, Mysidia was so happy and loving- but she was, well, sometimes a bit much for her shy & quiet tree-ish son.
Blink. "Huh? Hurt?" Green eyes widened in shock as the coffee took his paw to examine it, a soft "wark" sounding in surprise at the unexpected gesture. Now those green eyes were even wider, seeing the cut he had not felt beneath the molasses, staring in mute wonder for some time as Juunigatsu studied it, wondering at the clear concern in this small coffee. The intensity of suddenly having this other's eyes meet his kept Naoki's voice stilled yet longer. His ears flicked forward to catch Juu's soft words and still he did not speak, simply looked into the other's jade eyes not stirring -almost mesmerized but not stiff.
"No... no you kweh are not." Naoki's voice was soft, gentle. once the words were voiced a slow smile tipped the corners of his maw and softened the wideness of his eyes. "And no... it kweh doesssn't. I'd not noticcced kweh it."

"Heh. Thats good your not hurt then." He gave a bright smile and softly licked the other's paw wound. He thought in his mind that it would stop the hurt for at least a little while. So he did- the soft tongue like on smooth setting fur. Then he calmed a little knowing that the gunk that was on it had left. But was on his tongue now- no matter. He could semi settle on the licorice taste for some time before becoming ill with the smell and taste.
"Now.. If you wanna be off alone. Then.. I could leave yea be." He gazed up at the other's eyes. Indeed they were evergreen. Like the lands he had once past with he small claws. "If you don't... then you could come with me to the springs or something. Maybe be off to find some of my favorite drink!" He exclaimed with a joyful look across his face. Then his body went like sort of a dolphin's inner arched back and jumped along. His ears in slick down his head and his tail whirling around a chain almost to look as heavy as he was.
His hair swirling everywhere in a shine when he hit the light. "And if yea didn't want people to find you. Why not hide where you blend in most so your harder to find. OR! A place out of the norm. Other than that place." He looked back and motioned to the swamps then he darted away towards the ice cream fields- in which he came.

He... he licked him? New-green eyes blinked then stared, not sure how to take such a gesture. Much less from a complete stranger. But... it felt good, and the hurt that was just registering was reduced. Maybe there really was something to his mother's 'kissing boo-boos makes them better' notion. Naoki had never tested it outside of family.
Naoki did not blink any more than normal as his and the small coffee's eyes met again. A slight shake of his head and a shy smile -no he found he did not wish to be alone right now. Or the treeish numa was simply not finding he felt he needed to be away from the kind coffee. A soft light came to his green eyes and he padded -being careful of his injured paw- after the blue black male quietly.
"I like kweh lounging in the sssun." Naoki said softly, suppressing a yawn & blinking as he felt the warmth of the sun hitting him once again. So warm... A gentle lethargy grew upon him and almost lazily he watched how the light hit Juunigatsu's fur. It had more blue in it than than Naoki had noticed in the shade of the swamp. Thanh flew heatedly at the numa's face, as if chasing aside the large candy's sun-lethargy. Naoki seeing that Juu had darted off trotted quickly to catch up to him then returned to his more sedate pace. "Ssso... what'sss kweh your favorite drink?"

He spacingly came to a much normal stride as the other one came next to him. So he didn't want to be alone? He was rather confused of this, but no matter to him. Nothing was set in stone and never had their been a day where he didn't want company. "Hmmm.. I love running.. catching fish.. I like.. everything!" He laughed some and nodded.
"I LOVE~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FULL THROOOTTTLLLEE~~" He sang in a rough yet soft sort of way. Oh he adored the scent, taste.. everything! His flavor was even full throttle! Waving his heavy metal chained tail. A light joy and pretty much liked to be around.. even though it seems no one has really been around. Leaning next to the other, letting his hair fly up a moment when he tossed his long hair to one side. "What do you like to drink most? Whats your flavor?" He asked both rather sparky and randomly.
His eye caught the butterfly, but he chose not to say anything for his was prettyy much entertained by this lil thing.

Naoki nodding slowly as he registered the other's list of likes floundered and 'wark'ed in surprise as Juunigatsu went into his 'song' about his favorite drink. Such a large numa, already being lulled to sleep by the warmth of the sun's rays upon his brown fur had not been expecting such a thing. More the fool he, for Naoki should have been more than accustomed to even more enthusiasm considering his mother. It was probably more that... despite having seen Juu prance eagerly to where they were going Naoki had otherwise just seen him as an oddly sweet and shy or quiet coffee. He just had not been prepared for this on top of the encroaching lethargy.
The large brown candy nibble calmed quickly though, resting on his haunches a bit as Juu leaned against him. Again Naoki blinked. "Full Throttle?" He repeated, perpexed. He had never heard of such a flavor. It sounded like something his mother would like. As long as it did not come in a grape flavor. His ma with her dislike of grape flavoring.
"My, kweh uhh... flavor?" Naoki was a little flusered. "Why? I kweh mean..." Naoki blushed the tiniest bit and looked away. "I like water." He said very quietly. Not really ashamed, not really embarrassed, but uncertain how that would be taken. For a numa to like something so mundane, something more common outside of NNL, was rather rare.
