We see people use the term "Fanboy" freely. They use it as an insult. Is it really a bad thing or do people just tend to think it's a bad thing? Some people are proud to be a fanboy or fangirl of something. Others see it as a degrading term. Discuss your definition and why you view it as such.
It's good to get this out in the open as it's a common thing to call someone when talking about video games and there are mixed views on it.

It depends. There are different breeds of fanboy out there. For example, in my experience, Xbox fanboys are typically obnoxious elitists with laundry lists of mental complexes, whereas Nintendo and Sony fanboys tend more towards the classic, nostalgic gamers who can't bring themselves to break their loyalty.
Personally, I think a certain degree of loyalty is a good thing. I can't help but feel a certain sense of admiration for the Nintendo fanboys who stuck with their company even through the dark days of the Gamecube. Same with the Sony fans that refuse to jump to the 360 in these bumpy times. And heck, even the 360 fans who were part of the tiny group that decided to give the monstrous Xbox a chance even though the rest of the gaming world called them morons.
The only kinds of fanboys that I just can't tolerate are the mean ones and the ones who just jump to whatever is most popular at the time. I swear, if I see another one-poster who says "360 cuz it has halo" I'll go crazy! scream

Let's get this straight, Wak. We throw the word fanboy around, but I don't think fanboyism in itself should be considered "wrong". I don't want to stray into the boundaries of a stereotypical fanboy. Halo fanboys that don't shut up and Nintendo and Sony fanboys that are close minded are very evident in tjreads, and are a legitimate concerns, but there's no reason to generalize all fanboys as "bad". Really, say, 90% of fanboys make the other 10% look bad, even though the 10% is doing its thing and not disrupting threads, making rediculous claims, etc.

Well... I actually believe the term, "fanboy/girl" Derived, from being an idiotic "fan" So, fanboy, was never meant to mean a "honest fan"
It's basically a case of the English language coming up with new words every second.
Look how at how many ways you can call someone stupid in english. Bet it doubles most other languages. If that's not bad enough, now we have slang. We should have seen this coming when the word "bad" could be used as positive. "Positive" being almost literally it's opposite.
From no one, anyone who uses slang gets Crimson's Official Slap of Quality (The quality being in the slap. not the receiver) So watch out when you use words other than their literal intentions!
