Conditions were perfect- it wasn't raining so their pawprints wouldn't be left in the mud. His brothers were all out and about, but he knew where they were. He'd used the excuse of not feeling well to get them all to go to the water hole, the exact opposite way of where Ryega was. Also, his "I'm sick" plea made Sukari start her nap early, along with Jani too. Ryega had grown stronger, he could see it even just in the dog's build, he was bigger and stronger.
Fenris laid next to both of his heavily-sleeping parents and slowly slid one eye open. They were both snoring heavily, and he knew it was safe. Slowly the cheeton rose to his paws, giving them one last look.
Fen was, deep down, fond of both his parents, moreso his dad than his mom. He'd miss them both, but this had to be done. He left the cave silently, carefully placing each paw in the dust until he was outside the cave boundaries, at which point he bolted with the method that Usiku had taught him, a smooth, silent gait, though a bit clumsy due to his age and the fact that he was not a leopard.
He raced to a particular bush and began to dig for some rodents that he had caught in the last few days, preparation. While Ryega wasn't a bad hunter, he was blind, and an emergency meal or two couldn't hurt. With them in his mouth, he headed off to where Ryega tended to be, ready to run.

Ryega was up, actually, he had awoken long before the hustle and bustle of the herds and screams of prey. His ears were still good, picking up even some of the faintest sounds. His nose was strong, picking up scents before they came, sometimes even if he were downwind. The red male was older than before, he was able to hunt for Sukari and her family and still have some left for himself before the day was done. He could run good distances before he had to double back, following the scent that his paws left behind. If it weren't for that he would have been easily lost out in the savanna.
The red dog paced under his usual tree on the outskirts of Sukari's territory. He did this every morning in preparation of the day to actually get free of her tyranic grip. He did not care how, Fenrir had it all planned out, he just wanted to get out of here and go back home.
"Where are you?..." he questioned, asking that question everyday. He did not know if today was the day or if it was the next, he just could not wait. He was growing impatient as time passed, but he could not give away their plans...
His ears perked and his head jerked in Fen's direction.
"You brought food, I see... a few days old by the smell of it."

Fenris was glad to see the red dog was up and about, ready to go as well. He felt that today would go very smoothly, everything was perfect. He padded confidently up to the dog. "-up!" he said through gritted teeth and deposited the mice at Ryega's feet. "Ya hungry now, or should we save them for later? I figured it can't hurt to have extra food. Right now everything's perfect, all of my siblings are far away, thinking I'm too sick to join them in the playdate, and mom and dad are taking a nap, and they're out cold," he said, hoping to get a reaction out of the dog.

"I just ate, a feeble mouse had crossed my way when it was scurring away. I guess it thought I was too blind to see it, but that is aside. Let's hold onto these for now. If we have to, we can use them later for other purposes than just eating them," he replied. He had the notion that he could simply bribe something in helping them find their way back. Fenrir can either come with him or return to his family and pretend that the dog was never there. Either way, Fenrir would be safe and hopefully, Ryega will be too.
He nudged the little hybrid and gestured out to the savanna.
"I had given a bird a meal in exchange for some information. It said that there was a pack of dogs in that direction, toward the mountains. I know that is my pack, I remember the mountains there, so that is where we go."
He paused.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"

Fenris couldn't help but smile at his friend's resourcefulness. "That's great! Mountains should be relatively easy to spot, too, since most of the lands are flat..." Though, he couldn't see any now. He had a general idea where the mountains are too, and he knew that if they could get close, he could definitely narrow it down, and if he couldn't, Ryega would.
"I'm certain I want to go. I'm sick of living with my mother, I'm sure you understand," he said. "Let's get going," He picked up the rodents and took a step forward, in the right direction.

Ryega raised his muzzle, following the young feline's scent. His heart was racing in anticipation to get out from his mother's domininating grip. Just because he was blind, it did not mean he was going to be used.
"Your mother mated. She opened her heart to your father and you cubs. She has grown soft... but she is still annoying stupid. Once we get out of here, I am taking you back to my pack. Perhaps then we can actually show you what a real mother is like," he spoke. He took good big steps, as was his way, knowing where things were by taking them rather cautiously. His paw would move a bit before placing it down and so on. He was able to keep up with the cheeton.
"The moutains are easy to find, Ryega. It's finding the passage into our lands that will be difficult. The Alpha purposely made it so that it would be difficult to find. After all, it's suppose to be dedicated to bringing new life into the world. That much I know."

Fen tagged along, more alongside the dog than behind or ahead of him. His tail flicked distractedly behind him- he hardly paid it any mind, though. The feline action was beginning to grow on him. Fen wondered how hard it could be to find the passage... "I'm sure once we get close to the lands, you'll know where to go. I'm sure it'll come back to you," Fenris said, more for himself than for the dog.
He flicked an ear back, waiting to hear a sound, but nothing came. His parents were still asleep, no doubt, and his brothers still playing. Fen smirked, this was working. And in a few more bounds they'd be, where Fen would consider, free to run.

Ryega smiled as his eyes remained still in his eyes, some have told him, like his brother, it was a 'freaky' thing. He couldn't tell as he could not see, plus, it was hard to look at his own eyes when he was blind. He tilted his head toward the feline with a slight smirk.
"I hope so, perhaps you can come with me and stay in the lands. Your mother can't find you and you will be with me and my family. You will see a real father who cares about you. You will see a real mother who will love you. Besides, you'll be in the jungles where we can do what we want, after all, I remember it inside and out," he laughed as his pace quickened a little. The thought of having Fenrir living with him would be no different from what it was here, he will be nice and safe without the threat of his mother looming over his head.
They'll both be free.

"Are they that different, my parents?" Fen asked curiously as the pair travelled. He always imagined that other parents were at least... similar. While he found them annoying, he did, deep down, love his parents. At least his mother was nice to him... most of the time. He just couldn't keep living with someone who took slaves.
A blue eye surrounded by tan slowly slid open... Sukari had just realized a cold spot that had been warm from another's body not long ago... Fenris had gone. Sukari didn't at first fully comprehend that her son, who had said he felt sick, was gone, but before long she came to the full realization he was missing. She didn't remember him telling her that he was leaving to join his brothers... With a snort, Sukari blinked once more and snapped her eyes open this time, waking herself up fully. She rose to her paws and skulked out of the cave, in direction of the water hole, figuring that that was the only place her son would go. She had not been smart enough to scent the ground or the wind, only to follow her half-asleep mind. It was only when she reached an overlook of where her sons were that Sukari panicked. There was no green little body, only his brothers. "Fen," she said quietly and turned around. "FENRIS!" She called out over the savannah, starting back towards the den's mouth, to further check it, then she would leave in search of the boy. Not once did the idea that he was with Ryega occur to her.
Fenris' ears perked up curiously. "Did you hear something, or was it just me?" He asked, stopping and looking behind him.

Ryega snarled as his ears perked. They were stronger than any felines. Dogs had more hearing range than a feline did and he heard it, faint, but it was clear. He turned to Fenrir with a scowl.
"We run..." he turned around and sniffed teh air. She had not already started running but with that scream of hers... and the realization that her son was missing, she would be hot on their tails. He snarled, turned around and started to run. He knew Fenrir will be ahead of him because his blood ran with cheetah genes and he was relatively slow as this terrain was unknown to him. But the sooner they start, the better. "RUN!"

Fen's eyes widened at Ryega's reaction and he knew exactly what was happening. By some chance, Sukari had woken up. A snarl curled on his own muzzle before he took off running too- though the dog had gotten a head start on him. Fen would have no trouble catching up to, and running ahead of Ryega. Yes, he had known speed would always be on his side.
"Follow the sound of my paws, Ryega, I'll avoid rocks and roots," Fen said as he passed his canine friend. He knew that Ryega had to be able to run typically- how else would he hunt food?
Panic drove the lioness on- she didn't wake Jani while in the cave, she thought he wouldn't be able to help. She searched the corners of the den and looked everywhere for her son. He wasn't in the den, he wasn't with his brothers, and he hadn't responded when she called... She searched for his scent and caught a direction- to the right from the den's mouth. She headed blindly in this direction, not thinking that he could have changed directions. She ran past where Fen had stored the dead rodents and kept running in that line, running until she found a cliff, about a 20 foot drop to the bottom, and she found no green boy. She sniffed the ground again, but found that Fen's scent was nowhere to be found. "FENRIS!" She called again, waited for just a moment, and headed back toward the den, wasting precious time. An inkling of the dog crept into her head- he had threatened that he'd take one of her sons... Could he- no, no he couldn't... Could he? She'd track that whelp down after she found her son. She found that he had headed out into the savannah, and started to run that way- the right way. Unfortunately for Sukari, she'd wasted too much time... Doubt crept into her mind as to whether she'd ever catch him. If the dog was still around, he could be used... "WHELP!!!" Sukari screamed, anger and frustration creeping into her desperate cries. She waited for him to come for a moment, but there was no red creature approachhing.
She knew then that the dog had taken her son. "rrRRAAGH!" She slashed at an unlucky patch of grass that went flying tens off feet simply from her rage. Blindly now, she ran on.
Ryega, there's a shallow river coming up, we can run up or downstream to have her lose our tracks!" Fen said, now certain that he was hearing his mother. It was the only way he knew of immediately to cover their tracks fast, he hoped Ryega wouldn't oppose.

Ryega snarled constantly at the thought of something happening to them. Either Fenrir panicked and backed out, leaving him alone to wander around blidnly. Ryega tripped, and that happened quite frequently. Or Sukari found them and would kill him. Having known that he could just follow Fenrir's footsteps, the soft pitter patter of his steps, he could find his way around. If he could keep his steps in teh same sound, he would be fine. He just had to stay close.
"Alright, just go, I'm right behind you," he snarled as he ran a bit faster.
Hearing the female's voice in the distance, he heard his slave name, "Whelp" and it only made him want to get further away from her. Just abiut now, he was ready to do just about anything.
"To the river."

Even though Fen had an idea that Ryega could smell and hear the water, he had a feeling he'd have to tell the dog. "It's right here, let's go to the right and then... I see the perfect spot!" Fen doubted the dog could tell it was there, but a ways upstream he could see a small waterfall... and he was sure there was a cavern behind it in which they could hide until Sukari was gone the wrong way. "Follow me," He said as he dashed down the shallow river. It was only up to his belly, but it would definitely be enough to cover their scents. He was drenched as he went under the small waterfall and sure enough there was a cavern behind, with a small aclove.
"In here, Ryega," Fen said, unsure if Ryega would be able to sense it without his voice. Sukari had yet to reach the river, but she was headed that way.

Ryega growled as he walked along the river, the river barely touched his belly, it only went up to the hocks. He had really grown then... if he recalled his father was the same way when he crossed the river, he had said that his legs were wet. It seemed like Ryega was growing even bigger than his father or he walked in teh deep water.
Going under the waterfall startled him as it soaked his entire form so that the fur clung to his skin. He let a snarl pass his maw as he shook violently to get out the water, making his fur stick out before laying down somewhere behind the hybrid.
"Alright, I guess we stay here for some time." He sniffed the air. The only thing he could smell was wet dog.

She followed their scents to the river. She knew her son was smart, but how could he let himself be stolen away!? Deep inside the dark lioness stirred an "I told you so," from her softer half. Ever since Ryega had threatened to steal away a cub, Sukari knew she should start to treat him better... This was what she got for ignoring it, but the punishment felt so disproportionate to the crime. She would search until she wouldn't be able to walk anymore, though she knew she'd have to go back home sometime. She had other little ones to worry about, but she wasn't going back yet. She crossed the river and searched for Fen's scent, but then took to going the wrong way- to the left. She would walk down the river, sure that her son was there, and she would walk for miles before giving up and returning home.
The two were fortunate, the gods must've been on their side. They were downwind of Sukari, having the wind work against the scent of wet dog, and the waterfall itself made an odd air current, keeping most of the smell behind the waterfall.
After a long while, Fenris spoke. "She went the wrong way down the river, away from us. Do you think it's safe to leave?" He thought they'd be fine, but he wanted a second opinion.
