With her latest plan set into motion by finally finding Gharadi, or "dad" for her cubs.. Amadet was becoming increasingly aware of how little time she had to spend with her cubs now, for as soon as they were comfortable with Gharadi, she intended to get them moving on to their safe home in the Swamps with him. Despite everything, it was rather sad to know she'd miss a fair bit of her cubs lives- after all, youth was very important. This idea caused the lioness to consider what life lesson or wisdom she could pass on to her cubs before she left, just in case she was longer than expected or, though she wouldn't admit the possibility to herself, in the case that she didn't come back. She spent some time trying to think of something, and though she had a vague plan she decided she would just wing it for now..
Gharadi liked to keep the cubs close by, and Amadet was not going to argue with that- especially where she'd said someone was after her and them. As long as one of the two of them was nearby, the two parents were happy. As such, she was sure she could find someone to have a mother-child chat with- perhaps even more than one. So she set about this little hunt immediately, going off in the direction she was sure she'd seen someone hop off in..

Indeed, Siyara had just literally hopped off towards a small, muddy water hole nearby. She was following a frog, which was frantically leaping in an effort to throw off the cub's dogged pursuit. Inspired by the small amphibian, Siyara bounded awkwardly after it (jump off the back legs, land on the front, repeat) --
-- until it disappeared in a cloud of muddy water. The cub sprawled to a halt and stared reproachfully at the pond, her ears folded in dismay. She hadn't meant to scare it off! Reeds whispered around her as the wind played across their slender stalks, and the cub could almost hear them laughing at her. She cast them a scathing glance and pouted for a while on the banks, flicking bits of wood and stone into the water to create sparkling ripples.
Still the frog didn't come back.
... but maybe if she hid in the reeds it wouldn't see her, and would come out again! Then she could try and explain how she was jus' playin' an all! Gleeful again, the brown cub darted to find the perfect spot among the reeds, blissfully unaware of the rather large amounts of noise she was creating in the process.

Noki was playing quietly by herself when she heard the sound of rustling grass- but it wasn't the usual sound of grass rustling in the wind or being moved around as someone walked. It was staggered, and only stopped when something splashed into the water nearby. Curiosity won as she hesitated investigating, and she got to her feet and peeked out around the corner to see who was here- and her gaze did not find Siyara first, but Amadet walking this way. However, she was less curious about that and turned to look at her sister.
"What happened?" she asked, looking into the water as she spoke. Amoret walked calmly, slowly, taking her time. It didn't take long for her to find what she was looking for, and it seemed that she was lucky enough to find more than one of her cubs at the same time. This was not unusual, though, with so many of them running around. It was not hard to guess who she had found, based on their fur. Siyara looked so much like Amadet, Amoret only hoped she would be a much better lioness. Noki looked a lot like her father, or so Amadet imagined (as she had only seen him in the dark).. and based on the one meeting, she seemed to be similar in personality as well.
Not a bad place to start, Amadet decided. When she got close to the pair of them, and stopped to just watch them until she could have their full attention.

"Shhhh!" Siyara hissed, her bi-colored eyes focused intently on the water nearby. Silly sister! This was important business! ... but she supposed she could share the story real fast. Maybe Noki could help! Carefully the cub extracted herself from her reed shelter and crept to Noki's side.
"There was a hopping thing! An' I was followin' it an' gonna play with it, but then SPLASH!" - She stomped one paw on the ground for emphasis - "The jumper disappeared into the water. So I'mma wait here for it."
She turned her warm gaze to her sister and canted her head to the side. "Wanna help me find it again?!" One ear flicked backwards, catching the sound of her mother approaching. However, she had much more important things to attend to that Mama! Even so, one ear remained fixed on Amadet's position.
Someone who is one with nature ALWAYS knows what's going on around them!

Noki started when Siyara hissed at her, stepping back a bit and falling quiet at the hushing. She frowned momentarily, and watched as her sister eventually shifted her gaze from the water to her, and then actually came over. She listened carefully to the story about the frog, her orange eyes wide. She'd never seen anything quite like what Siyara described before, at least nothing that was big enough to make a SPLASH. When invited to help her look for the frog again, Noki nodded enthusiastically, though she continued to keep silent.
She inched closer to the water warily, watching for any sign of this strange hopper.
Amadet watched as Siyara and Noki spoke- or more it looked like Siyara was doing most of the talking. She was more than willing to let whatever they were doing together play out, so long as she did not go ignored for too long. And so she settled in for a bit, taking a seat and opting to stay out of their little game right now. It was more than entertaining to try to guess what they were up to.

Siyara stared hard at the water in front of her, willing the hopper to make another appearance. Something darted beneath the surface of the water and the brown cub jerked forwards, eyes widening --
-- ah. Just a little darter. Siyara made a face at it as it disappeared beneath a rock. Now that the water wasn't disturbed by her OR the hopper, she could see the bottom quite clearly. And, also quite obvious, was the absence of the target of her search. Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the pond, hoping to see something other than those lightning-quick silver darters. Some rocks, and sand, and plants, and little bugs...
"Aww..." She glanced over at Noki, her face falling. "Do you see it? I think it's gone..."

The yellow cub didn't have too great an idea of what they were looking for, so even staring down at the bottom of the water didn't help her much. She was more hoping that if it did hop out, she would recognize it by that and thus have helped her sister out with it. Some of the bugs swimming looked like they might be able to hop, but she knew that wasn't what they wanted.
"I don't see it," she murmured in response, glancing over at Siyara with a frown.
"It's important to know when to move on," Amadet suddenly spoke up from behind them, getting back to her feet after watching them for a short while. She walked over to them and took a look in the pond herself. "In hunting, you can't get too worried about one loss," she said, glancing down at Siyara with a smile on her face, "You keep trying, but not for that one target."
Life lessons. Very important. The cubs may be going to a pride, but they should not depend on others to hunt for them- they would have to do their fair share.

Siyara's mouth twisted down into a frown and she nodded glumly at Noki. Too bad... maybe if they stayed here for just a little longer the creature would come back and she could learn about it some more! Like, what it ate and what it did when it was in the water. How did it breathe? She already knew that lions couldn't breathe under the water. After all, she'd tried! And --
-- her mother's voice cut into her thoughts and Siyara craned her neck to look Amadet in the eye.
"But Mama! I jus' wanted to see what it was." Siyara protested, eyes imploring. "I wasn't gonna eat it or hunt it or nuthin'!"
... but she supposed that Mama was right. After all, she couldn't just sit here forever and wait for that strange hopper to come back to her. Though she was willing to sit here all afternoon and wait.

Noki bit her lip and frowned when she saw Siyara's expression at the loss of the hopping creature. She didn't want her sister to be so disappointed, but she didn't know what she could do to help. Hesitantly, she reached down and dipped a paw in the water- wondering if she could go in after it and get it for Siyara, but she'd never really liked water. Not enough that she knew how to swim, really.
Luckily, the plan was put on hold by their mother's intervention. However, Noki couldn't help but pout as she turned around to look back at her mother. Then, looking back and fourth between Amadet and Siyara, she nodded to show her agreement with her sister's explanation.
Amadet smiled at the cubs, even with the explanation she could see in their eyes- Siyara's especially- that they would have spent their day there by the water if they had the chance. Curiosity was good, how else would they learn about the world they were to live in?
"Ah," she said, taking a seat by the ponds side with them, "But is it more productive to sit and watch this spot, or try to find another one? How long is too long? It's practical application might be hunting, but you might learn a lot more if you keep looking.."

Siyara considered her mom's suggestion, her brow wrinkled in thought.
"Weeeell, I can go somewhere else where I don't know if there is another hopping thing and LOOK for one, OR I can stay here where I know there's a hopping thing and wait for it."
So now it depended on whether or not she wanted to wait. She glanced at her sister and then back at her mom again. Her eyes scanned the water for any sign of movement, ears flickering and straining, hoping to catch the barest hint of sound.
Nothing.
"I don't mind waiting, but... I dunno, how long IS too long?"
Personally, she was ready to wait a long loooong time! ... but maybe Mama knew where another hopping thing was, or she could tell her where this one went? Or maybe Mama had something even more interesting to show her and her sister! She waited, eager, tail lightly thumping against the ground behind her.

"Yeah," Noki said thoughtfully, considering Siyara's comment about where she knew the frog was and where she didn't know there would be more frogs. It made more sense to stay where you knew that there was one of the strange hopping things, not go where there might be one. Unless this one was suddenly too smart for them. She wasn't brave enough to suggest this possibility though, still seeing some reason in what Siyara was saying. Though she never had any doubts in her mother!
None she would admit to, anyway. Mommy seemed full of good ideas sometimes, where she knew so much more about the world around them than they did. Or that's how it seemed to Noki. So she sat quietly, waiting to see where the conversation went.
"You could stay here and wait," Amadet agreed, looking over into the water briefly before looking back at the cubs, "But now it knows you're here, and might not realize you aren't going to hurt it. If you wait long enough, it might come back out thinking you've left, but if you were hunting or really hungry.. that might be a little too long for your liking."
She nodded matter-of-factly, and with a quick glance back to the water, added thoughtfully.
"Describe what you saw," she instructed, though she had a guess, "Maybe I can help you find another one."

Siyara started to reply to Mama's first statement, but the question to describe the hopping thing was too distracting to leave till later. Taking a deep breath, the brown and grey cub launched into a detailed account of her encounter with the strange new creature.
"WELL. I was jus' sittin' there, mindin' my own buisness, and then CROAK! Somethin' made a big noise, and it was comin' from behind me." Siyara feigned a jump of startlement and the mimicked stalking. "So I crept up and there it was, just sittin' on a big ol' rock. It was smooth and shiney looking, with green skin and spots and big gold eyes! Then it saw ME and hopped away."
Siyara paused for a moment, then wrinkled her nose as if in disgust. "It didn't have any ears or fur or a tail, not at all! But it's legs were really long and it hopped... like... this!" She hopped for a few feet and stopped, panting.
"Do you know what it was? Where more are? Can you show us?"

Noki listened to Siyara very intently, and with wide orange eyes. She didn't know how Siyara had found this thing, only that she'd lost it and had been trying to find it. She didn't know what to add, but wanted to say something that would explain her involvement in the whole situation- so she gestured back to the water it had fled into.
"It went in there, I was trying to help find it," she said quietly, "It's been holding it's breath a long time.."
Amadet listened very carefully, trying to be as dramatic as she could at the right places to encourage the girls- looking especially surprised when Siyara croaked and described how it hopped away after seeing her. She suspected it was a frog from the beginning, but knew as soon as Siyara said no ears and no fur, and Noki added about the breathing.
"Ah," she said, laughing at Siyara's impression of it hopping, "Sounds to me like you saw a frog. This little pond is a good place to start, but I think any frogs here know you're looking now. But you know what?"

The brown and grey cub nodded at her sister. "Yeeaah, it HAS been holding its breath a long time! I wonder if he can breath water..." Air AND water? That would be weird! Maybe it just held a lot of extra air inside it, or it had a secret hole filled with air as its home! She would have to find it and --
"A... frog?" Siyara giggled, distracted from her thoughts by her mother's explanation. "That's a funny name!" She canted her head to the side, glanced at Noki, then back to her mother. "No, WHAT?"

Noki's nose wrinkled when Siyara suggested that the hopper might be able to breathe water. It was weird to imagine for the cub, water was for drinking- and drinking and breathing weren't the same things. She'd once done something like that herself, Kichea had made her laugh when she was taking a drink.. no, Noki was sure that at least she could not breathe water.
"Weird, maybe," she mumbled, and only looked away from Siyara when Amadet gave the hopper a name. Frog. So frogs were strange hopping things that breathe water..
"What?" she echoed Siyara, only much quieter, coming out of her wondering about frogs and water.
Amadet beamed at the pair of them, glad to have found something that might make the idea of moving much more acceptable to the pair of them. Pepo already knew, but he'd been sworn to secrecy. Hopefully he would not mind them being let in on.. part of their secret.
"Well, we're going somewhere very soon," she explained, "And I'm sure you'll be able to find lots of frogs there."
