I've been wondering does Vista actually suck or it's just overrated? I have Vista on my old laptop and still I haven't gotten used to it. It's interface is really odd and MS Office 2007 doesn't work with the School computers. (They have XP and MS Office 2003). Plus they have a lot of kinks to work out. But does Vista really suck or it's just overrated?

Well, I think that many (if not most) MS products are overrated (RE: everyone that is hyped about the Microsoft Table ¬_¬), and that definitely casts a negative light on Vista from the start.
Now, at work, NASA will not let anyone switch to Vista on any computer on the domain, as Vista failed the security compliance check. With the release of Vista SP1 (I might also want to take this time to note that the current estimated size for SP1 is about 6GB, which I find to be a rather insane update size, considering SP1 and 2 on XP were in the neighborhood of 250MB), I believe they will reevaluate it, but even then it might not make it. Whenever you look at the network configuration of Vista, it is a mess to begin with: there are many VPN (virtual private networks. In other words, they are supposed to be direct connections to another network) tunnels built into the system, and this can make for some pretty insecure holes.
The interface definitely takes some getting used to, and under the hood (apparently, MS won't let anyone look at their proprietary source code) NT is a whole new monster.
All in all, I won't be using it for some time (and maybe longer, as I use *NIX-based systems), and it is my semi-professional opinion (there is always room for bias. In everything, I might note) that everyone wait at least until Vista SP1.
[joking]Or switch to Mac/Linux[/joking]

Let's just say this.
It costs more to get a PC with XP pre-installed on it then it does with Vista pre-installed.

The Death Blues Mix Let's just say this.

HistoryWak The Death Blues Mix Let's just say this.
It costs more to get a PC with XP pre-installed on it then it does with Vista pre-installed. What difference does that make? What point were you showing with that? Vista is supposed to be more of a value then XP. Yet they charge more for PCs with XP pre-installed. Going from 98 to XP the ones with XP were more expensive.
Vista is just screwed up right now.

I have had first-hand experience with both, and honestly, Vista is a waste of time, at the moment.
My cousin has Vista on his laptop. 2 gigs of ram, 160 gig hard drive, much like the computer I am getting at the end of this week.
It is extraordinarily slow, in comparison to the speed it had when he had XP on it. In all honesty, the piece of crap Desktop I'm making this post on was faster than the laptop with Vista on it.

I have no problems with Vista and im actually loving it. Direct X 10 is a big differance and i havent gotten anyproblems.
I also love the fact i dont have to worry about Viruses so much as i did with XP.
Im glad i made the upgrade and im a very serious gamer.
I really think people are just retarded when they go like OMFG ******** VISTA, same s**t people said years before with Millenium and all that.
I got use to the interface in 2 days, just give it a chance and dont buy the hype people use to discredit it, the internet tends to hate anything popular.

No... in this case the internet hates Vista because it's bad. Microsoft rolled it out with out listening to their beta testers. Most graphic card drivers don't have proper support for Vista. Amongst other things.
XP was bad when it was released as well. The only reason you're not getting Vista targeted viruses is the same reason Macs don't get hit very often. Not enough people have it to make it worthwhile to hackers.

Every new pc is Sold with Vista and i myself have sold a lot of laptops and pc's with vista, I work in an electronics store. Vista is not just bad. I have it, I like it and my Drivers have no problems running the latest games. Everytime a new game is release the Drivers are released along with them, so thats not true.

Not enough people have it to make it worthwhile to hackers. You do know that the core of Mac OS X is based on FreeBSD, which has a proven security record. Of course, NetBSD is the overzealous version of that, but I digress. Not to mention that *NIX-based structures are notoriously difficult to crack, as compared to NT-based systems.

But does Vista really suck or it's just overrated? thats an easy problem to sort out after like 2004 or whenever... MS Word and Office changed its formats. its now not the same as the 2003 version when you go to save, on the filetype dropdown, click on 'Word 97-2003 Document' anyway. personally i dont think vista is overrated, or s**t. i think its a great OS. the GUI is a little bit different from XP- but the visuals and extras that there are makes it so much nicer. its more secure than XP and i think it has better control over more cores in your processor i would never go back to XP- i like the future, and im staying with vista for some years to come.

I use vista and it work fine for me. The thing is that you need to have dule/quad core processors, 2 gigs of ram, and a DX10 graphics card to get the most of the new OS.
