OK, I decided I'll do this.

Story:
Tales of Symphonia is basically the cliche, cheesy "chosen one" story, with a plot twist, and then more plot twisting until it ends.

Tales of the Abyss's storyline is more meaningful (one of the main themes is how religion can drive people to do immoral things), less cheesy (When they find out that Tear is being hurt by doing operating passage rings, instead of saying "stop u gon die!!!" the main character says, "I wish I could tell you to stop, but if you do, millions of others will die...", now tell me which one of those makes more sense.)

Characters:

Tales of Symphonia's characters are rather... bland... the only one with really any personality is Zelos... and he's just a pervert... that you can kill near the end of the game.

Tales of the Abyss's characters start out with personality, but as the story progresses, they lose those personalities. The only ones that keep them (as far as I am) are Anise and Jade.

Gameplay:

Tales of Symphonia... well... it's basically the same as Tales of the Abyss. Tales of Symphonia doesn't hold your hand as much.

Tales of the Abyss has better skill chaining during battle, but it holds your hand WAYYYYY too much.

Mood setting:

If there's one great thing about ToS, it's how carefree and beautiful all of the towns were. Enough said.

Tales of the Abyss tends to rush everything and make everything seem drearier than necessary. The locations aren't as memorable.

Haven't played ToA yet, but I'm hoping to get it for Christmas. They both have awesome voice actors, but I'm voting ToS because Zelos is just too smexy, plus there's always Crispin Freeman who does the vioce for Regal in the American version. [[He's such a hotty, my fave voice actor!!!]]

Heather, they've got used TotA at GameStop over by Jewel. I was gonna give it to you, but then I realized you weren't good enough for it.

Don't worry about it too much, it's not like the game was super-great.

If there's anything you should be worried about missing, it's Eternal Sonata.

I'm supposed to choose ;_;? Well someone asked me before, and this is how I saw it:

TotA and ToS are honestly tied with story line for me. Sure ToS might seem cheesy, but they make it original. In the character department, I think ToS just barely won. For the sole reason that those Flanoir scenes revealed so much about the characters. I did like the fighting system in TotA better, though. With voice actors, I'm sort of biased XD! I love Johnny Yong Bosch to death XD! Now I cannot judge graphics simply because the PS2 has more graphics capability than the Gamecube, so that's not too fair. Otherwise, both a completely re-playable... and I don't know which one I prefer more ;_;.

I like them both, but honestly there really isn't anything wrong with Symphonia. Symphonia is flawless in every sense of the word. But this statement is coming from a completly obsessed TOS fan girl. Symphonia is perfect ^_^ (althought it needs free run like in Abyss)

Tales of the abyss is better..... WAY better. You people are weird. D;
The characters in Tales of the abyss are awesome. =]
The gameplay I like better to.
And the storyline isn't bad.... but it's better than Symphonia.
Go TotA!~

I bought ToA for christmas (Well, I got it, but the stupid thing didn't work so we had to buy another one.)

As far as I am now:

Luke ish a whiney baby, and Tear holds his hand far to much.

I dislike the battle system with the PS2 controler, Compared to a GC controler, its akward in thine hands.

For Symphonia (Beaten it five times now bitches)

Meh, I like LLoyd better as a main character, because he doesn't cry if something doesn't go his way, he isn't all that dependant.

The battle system is way easier to use even though it ish a bit dull.

Uhmmm I'll finish this later when I beat Abbyss.

I can't tell you anything about Luke's attitude but you should find out soon enough. Now, I love Abyss, the battle system is so much btter. But symphonia is...just perfect. Music is better, the story is deeper and MUCH easier to understand, the characters are very deep in both games, but development is better in Symphonia, with the affection system making it so much better, along with the scene's in Flanoir which are plain touching. Symphonia isn't as linear, in my opinion, and so this shows I love Symphonia. I like both still, but I am on my 12 plythrough in Symphonia and only my 2nd in Abyss.

I love the scene where Genis murmurs in his sleep" Lloyd...best friends..forever." so great crying User Image
