Anyone here notice how much gothic elements there are in Finnish metal? Well it's odd, I really like finnish metal cuz alot of it is "melodical" metal which I think is gothic for some bizarre reason. Now the bands that portray this image; Nightwish The 69 Eyes (Helsinki vampires) Apocalyptica HIM The Rasmus Lordi Ensiferum (folk metal which is more like the trad meaning of goth lol) Sonata Arctica Norther (melodic death metal) Lordi (Eurovision winners, closest thing to goths ever in the competition)
The list goes on and on... Care to share your views on this topic? ^^

None of the bands you listed are goth musically... at all.
Gothic in a thematic sense? Maybe, but really, it's pretty popular everywhere. It's just more popular in the Finnish hard-rock scene right now than in other places.

Actually The 69 Eyes are Gothic Rock (or Gotn 'n' Roll) and HIM are also gothic rock.
More bands that bare gothic in genre; Cyan Velvet Project Entwine Embraze For My Pain... New Dawn Foundation Poisonblack Reflexion Shamrain To/Die/For Let Me Dream Serenity's End Saralee Silentium Sinamore
I am just unfamiliar with all those ones lol ^^

I just LOVE Lordi! And like The 69 Eyes, The Rasmus, TO/DIE/FOR, Nightwish, Ensiferum and Therion(but it is swedish). Those bands are pretty good too listen too and those bands are bands that my friends also know(in comparison with 'real' goth bands)
Finland and Germany grow the best bands.

Ok ok my source wasn't the best *coughs and quickly mutters wiki* but perhaps instead my list contains music that goths like. Does that mean its technically listed as being gothic? no.
And try tell me why Nightwish has a mostly goth following

They have a mostly metalhead following, mixed in with a bunch of mallgoffs.

And as for Lordi, I take it you didn't see the German entry that year, given they were a female fronted metal band in the style of Lacuna Coil, which is more gothy then Lordi.

I thought the germans had a jazz band.... Or was that this years entry?
Edit: Am the entry germany had the year Lordi won was a country western looking band that had a song called “no, no, lightning” or something. You were referring to the germans 2005 entry, a year before Lordi. I didn't like the vocals for that song... It just didn't sound right in my opinion with all that note bending. But yeah I'll admit they acquired a more gothic style than that of finland's winners

Honestly...
I see no similarities between Finnish Metal and Goth.
Plus, HIM aren't even close to goth.

And no, they dont label themself as goths and why does it matter anyway if a bunch of mallgoths listens to it?

Does classification really matter that much anyway?
If it sounds good and you enjoy listening to it, unless you have some fastamagorical order to your CD collection, whether its Finnish, goth or heavy metal shouldn't really make a difference in labeling its main listeners.
Does listening to Bob Marley make you a stoner? No.
Does listening to The Beatles make you a hippy? No.
Does listening to Green Day make you a moron? No. (J/k, low blow there.)

Does listening to Green Day make you a moron? No. Listening to Bink 182 does. Just out of interest how did you get 'hippy' from the beatles given they were a pop and rock band? You know, am I missing a link here or what?
