Duo Maxwell Gundam 02

PostPosted: Mon Oct 22, 2007 1:26 pm

Alright, I wrote a fanfic and got it edited by my webmommie. It's a Duo and Relena fanfic, but it's not a 2xR fanfic. It's about Duo being Relena's TEMPORARY bodyguard because Heero can't make it back from a mission on time. It's 1xR and 2xH and a Duo and Relena sort of friendship.

Um, there's no original characters unless you count the unnamed support characters such as the news reporters who are just...there as part of the story.

And um, Duo seems to have a very short um...experience with God. He just gets this feeling and says something like "You really do exist, don't you?" or something like that when he's surrounded by fireflies and stuff...

That's what I'm worried about people flaming me for actually. Just don't do it. If you don't have anything nice to say about this fanfic, then don't say it at all, and if you think you won't like it, then don't read it.

So again, don't flame me. Flamers will be added to my ignored list and if I'm in a special mood, will also become the victim of another "Shut up, mean Gaians" video/slideshow wich will go online for people to see >>;, making everyone look like a big jerk...but again, that's just if I'm in one of those special moods when/if I get flamed.

Chapter 1

Fireflies and Streams

The war had just ended, and people were still celebrating. Duo’s Gundam was gone, so were the others. Duo had just arrived at a hotel after his little celebration party with Hilde where he had nearly choked. Hilde felt bad for what happened to Duo, but the former Deathscythe pilot really thought nothing of it. All Duo wanted to do was go to sleep.

Duo went to his hotel room and opened the door. He went inside, shut the door, and lay in bed. He turned on the television and began to watch the news. The news wasn’t really news to him. He was there. He had seen it. He wasn’t the least little bit surprised. He turned off the television and went to sleep.

Sleeping on Earth was unpredictable. The sky had been clear most of the day, but it was thundering outside while he tried to sleep. He tossed and turned and eventually fell asleep. A little thunder wasn’t going to keep him awake for long.

Duo didn’t sleep very long, because around six o’clock in the morning his communicator was going off. Duo had just remembered Heero had given it to him the night before his tea break with Hilde. He slowly opened his eyes, groaned, yawned, and pressed the button on the communicator to see who was beeping him.

“Yo, this is Duo here,” the former soldier said in his raspy, tired voice, “What’s up?”

Heero’s face snapped onto the screen. The former Wing Zero pilot didn’t look happy, of course; he very rarely looked happy anyways. A serious facial expression was not uncommon for pilot 01. “Duo, I need a favor from you,” Heero said.

“At six in the morning, Heero?” Duo asked.

“How late did you go to sleep last night?” Heero asked.

“That’s none of your business!” Duo said. Really he didn’t know how late he went to bed, but he didn’t feel like admitting that. “What’s this favor anyway?” he asked.

“I need you to escort Relena to an important post-war peace meeting in Tokyo, Japan,” Heero said.

“I thought you were her bodyguard,” Duo said

“Don’t forget I’m also a Preventer,” Heero explained, “and I’ve been sent on a very important mission to disarm some missiles that an ex-Oz soldier stole and attempted to use against the Sanc Kingdom.”

“So how’s it going?” Duo asked.

“My mission is complete,” Heero said and then moved the communicator so Duo could see several men bound and gagged. He then focused the communicator on himself again, “But Relena leaves at noon and there’s no way I’ll be able to get there on time.”

“Why didn’t you ask someone else?” Duo asked Heero. It’s not that he didn’t want to protect Relena; he just wanted to go back to bed.

“The only person who’s not out of the country is Wufei and he still seems to strongly dislike Relena,” Heero said.

“Alright, alright…I give up. I’ll do it,” Duo agreed and then shut off the communicator to get dressed and ready for his mission.

It took Duo about an hour to wash his long brown hair and a few more minutes to pull it into a braid again. He then got dressed into a plain black t-shirt and black jeans. His jacket was white and his boots were a dark blue that almost looked black, but not quite. Hilde had just given him those clothes, which she bought especially for him, so he had promised to wear them the next chance he got. This was his chance.

Duo took a camera and held it above him and took a picture of him for Hilde and then grabbed his backpack. He walked out of the hotel room, returned the key card, and went to the bus stop to wait for a bus to bring him to where Relena was waiting for him.

Duo didn’t get to ride the public transportation system, because an old man pulled up in a pink limousine. It looked a lot like the one Relena had that was damaged in the crash caused by a mobile suit battle, except it was larger and a brighter pink, and brand new.

“I’m not getting into that thing,” Duo said to Pagan.

“But Mr. Maxwell, Miss Relena insists that I escort you to the airport. It’s going to be a very long ride, because her flight takes off in the city an hour from here. If we don’t leave now we’re going to be late,” Pagan said.

“Couldn’t you have brought a black one?” Duo asked.

“Relena is quite persistent about having a pink limousine,” Pagan said

“That sounds so like her!” Duo complained as Pagan opened the back door for him. Of course, when Duo got inside and saw his favorite anime murder mystery comedy movie sitting next to a DVD player that was next to a television he began to feel like it wouldn’t be so bad riding in the pink limousine. Duo just wished that the DVD player and television didn’t have to be hot pink also. The thing that was easiest on his eyes was the light blue remote control that matched the buttons that rolled the windows up and down.

Duo didn’t get to see the end of his movie before they parked in the parking lot of the large airport. The braided ex-pilot got out of the limousine without waiting for Pagan to open the door for him. He could tell where the female vice foreign minister was because of the flashing cameras and news reporters.

“Alright everyone, temporary bodyguard replacement here. Step away from the princess!” Duo ordered as he gently shoved the reporters to the side so he could get to Relena. The young man stopped as soon as he saw the girl. She looked different than she had during the time she had spent kidnapped by Mariemaia. Relena had tied her hair into a beautiful French braid and pinned it to the top of her head. She had discarded her formal suit for a beautiful flowing light blue short sleeved dress that was tied with a white bow. She looked beautiful. Duo couldn’t help but get out his camera to take a picture of her.

“Smile, princess!” Duo exclaimed cheerfully. Relena glared at him at first as all the other reporters continued to take pictures of her, then her expression softened and she smiled. Duo took a picture and said, “This one’s for Heero.”

Chapter 2

Flying in an extremely special first class on an actual airplane was exciting for Duo. He was used to flying in mobile suits, transporters, and shuttles, and maybe an occasional second or third class plane, but this was nothing like he could have ever imagined. He and Relena were served an actual gourmet meal with sparkling grape juice instead of the peanuts and soda he was used to. The lunch on the plane actually made Duo feel very uncomfortable. He knew Heero and Relena were girlfriend and boyfriend, and he loved Hilde, and the meal almost seemed too romantic for comfort.

“Relena…” Duo said, hiding his discomfort. Relena looked up at him. She had been sipping from her glass of sparkling grape juice. Duo held up his own glass “To true love. May we be happy with the ones we’ve chosen!” As Duo proposed the toast, he felt a little silly, but a lot better as Relena smiled and clicked her glass with him.

“You and Hilde look so cute together,” Relena said.

“And you and Heero too,” Duo said.

Relena smiled and finished her drink. Duo left his glass half full and walked around the plane a bit. There was plenty of walking space in the private special first class plane. He sighed and sat down to catch a bit more sleep before they reached their destination.

When Duo woke up they were in Tokyo, Japan. He was relieved to discover that Relena’s meeting wasn’t until the next day. That meant he had some free time to explore and to get some more sleep. The two were escorted to their hotel. That was when Duo remembered that he was supposed to be guarding Relena. He sighed. His fun was ruined.

Relena had changed into her pink sweater dress. That look was still beautiful, but was getting to be a little old. She came out of the bathroom where she had been changing and saw Duo moping on the couch of their hotel suite. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

“We’re in Japan, and I can’t go anywhere. There’s a lot of things I wanted to check out too,” Duo sighed.

“Oh…Why don’t we go together?” Relena suggested.

Duo looked up. “You’d do that for me?”

“I would. Besides, I’ve wanted to see some things here as well. Why else do you think I would come early?” Relena asked.

Duo and Relena left the hotel. Relena let Duo chose their first destination. He wanted to check out a shop that was selling katanas. He thought they were cool, but not the type of thing he was interested in. Wufei might have been more thrilled to see them. What really excited him was the star shaped throwing weapons. He couldn’t afford them though. He didn’t dare ask Relena either. Even if she was nice enough to buy them for him, he didn’t want to be a moocher. Besides, it would be rude to ask a pacifist to buy a weapon, even if it was just for collecting.

Relena turned around quickly to face Duo. “Oh, before I forget,” she held out some money to him. “This is your pay as a bodyguard,” she said. Duo looked at the money in Relena’s hands. It was at least worth a thousand U.S. dollars.

“But as a friend I can’t accept that,” Duo said and pushed her hand away.

“But I insist…I’m giving it to you not only as an employer but also as a friend, Duo,” Relena said. Then she smiled and added “Buy something for yourself or for Hilde…Or both of you.”

“Thank you, Relena,” Duo said and grinned. He took the money and went back over to the weapons, but as he really thought about what things like that were used for, he felt sick. He just couldn’t bring himself to buy a deadly weapon, even if it was just for decoration or collection. The only weapons he could see himself keeping were his knife and his scythe, but even those were locked away in a trunk in his room.

Duo held onto the money as he followed Relena around the city to the shops and restaurants. Some places he chose to go to, others Relena picked. Most of the choices Duo made Relena had to make an extreme effort to tolerate, and there were some shops Relena selected such as a “Hello Kitty” store that Duo just couldn’t walk into. Yet there were some stores that they both agreed were pretty cool, such as a Japanese grocery store.

Relena bought some special tea that she wanted to bring home and use at a tea party or some sort of formal gathering. Duo was browsing a section of the store that was loaded with foreign candies. Most of them he had never heard of. Some of the candies made him nervous. Eventually he decided just to get pocky. He bought about ten different flavors, one box of each.

As they left the grocery store, Relena spotted a store with a beautiful dress in the window. She ran inside. Duo followed her. While Relena was trying on the dress that she loved so much, which was like a kimono only with less layers and a shorter skirt, Duo saw a beautiful, but not too girly purple scarf. “Hey, Hilde might like this,” Duo thought. He checked the price. The scarf was on sale, and it was pretty cheap. He waited though. He would need a girl’s opinion on buying clothes for a girl, even if Hilde was a bit of a tomboy.

Relena eventually came out of the women’s dressing room. She was wearing the kimono dress and asked Duo “So what do you think? Do you think Heero will like it?”

“I don’t know if Heero cares really, but I like it,” Duo said and smiled. Relena blushed and went back into the dressing room. She came back out a few minutes later with the kimono in her arms and she was back in her sweater dress. “I’m going to buy it,” she said.

“Alright, hey Relena, do you think Hilde would like this?” Duo asked as he held up the scarf.

“Well it will certainly match her hair and eyes and that cute purple and yellow shirt of hers, and her hat. I don’t see why she wouldn’t like it,” Relena said.

Relena’s answer was good enough for Duo. He decided to buy the scarf.

Finally their shopping was done. Duo was a bit relieved too. It was extremely late, and he was tired. He didn’t know how late it was, but he was pretty sure it wasn’t midnight yet. The sky was very dark though, and the city was lit up with streetlights and lights from apartments and shops. Duo looked around at the city. It was beautiful, yet extremely depressing. All the technology had killed nature. Relena was thinking the same thoughts.

“I wonder if there’s any place around here that is still in its natural form…” Relena sighed. She looked up suddenly and saw something sparkling off in the distance. She began to walk towards it with great interest. Duo followed.

Relena and Duo came across a beautiful park. It was more like a reserve, and had existed for a couple hundred years. It was a project to keep the plant and animal life from dying out in Japan, which people feared would happen at least in most areas if they continued to pollute the area.

“It’s so beautiful,” Relena said as she stepped into the park. Duo just stared wide eyed at the fireflies. There were too many to count even if he had wanted to. It almost seemed unreal to him. He and Relena heard water rushing in the distance, and ran towards the sound.

They came upon a stream. The fireflies flickered around the air above and around the stream. Their reflections in the clear water only made it more beautiful. “It’s beautiful,” Relena said.

“I don’t know…it kind of reminds me of mobile suits blowing up in outer space…” Duo sighed.

“Don’t think that way, Duo,” Relena said.

“I can’t help it. I did a lot of things in the war that I really regret. If I could change my past, I don’t know if I would or not…I don’t know if it would help, but I do know that I have my regrets…And the worst part is, I’m not the only one,” Duo said.

“What you did during the war is something worth regretting, Duo,” Relena agreed. She then sighed and continued, “But look at what it came down to. We’ve finally got peace. And it’s enough that you regret what you’ve done, and you’ve tried to repent.”

“You’re right, I have…I just can’t forgive myself,” Duo said.

“If you don’t forgive yourself, Duo, you might end up making the same mistakes or worse in the future if a situation like that arises,” Relena said.

“I guess you’re right, thanks,” Duo said as he opened the strawberry pocky box. He held out two pieces of pocky. “Want one?” he asked.

“Sure,” Relena said and took a pocky stick. Duo put the other in his mouth and watched the sky. He closed his eyes. It was as though he could feel Someone out there, telling him that he was forgiven.

“So You do exist, don’t You?” Duo asked.

“Did you say something?” Relena asked.

“I did…but never mind,” Duo sighed, “Let’s head back.

Chapter 3

Relena’s meeting went well. It was short, simple, and to the point. There was no debate, because as soon as someone tried to point out that Relena’s views on peace were wrong, Duo stepped in and spoke as a former soldier about how she was right. Having a former Gundam pilot on her side gave Relena the advantage. Plus Duo was usually very cheerful and funny, and when he got that serious glare in his eyes, it scared some people into silence.

Relena and Duo flew back to meet up with the others as soon as the meeting was over. Duo gave Hilde her present, which she was thrilled to receive. She put it on immediately and kissed the former pilot 02’s cheeks. Duo blushed and then stared at Relena, who was giving Heero a very fancy squirt gun that looked like a real gun.

“Well what do you know, the girl’s got a sense of humor after all,” Duo said as he saw Heero point the gun at someone and pull the trigger. Of course Heero knew it was a squirt gun. He smirked as Duo winced at the water being sprayed at him and said, “Hey, cut that out!”

Relena giggled as she watched Duo tackle Heero and try to take the squirt gun from him. Heero’s gun ran out of water, so he flipped Duo over his shoulder and ran to the kitchen to fill it up. “Hey! No fair!” Duo cried as Heero continued to spray him.

For once in a long time, it seemed like the former Wing Zero pilot was actually having fun. Relena was happier than ever to see a big smile on Heero’s face, and Duo was happy too. Everyone was. This was really the best time Duo had ever had in his life.
