Vasu'Raj.

Yes, that was his name. He repeated it in his own head, pondering his meaning for a moment. Vasu had reached a point of maturity, that even he didn't quite understand. Questions about life, and the part in which he would hold, were creeping through his thoughts.

He walked aimlessly, at a steady, slow pace. His head hung as his eyes watched the passing grass below his hooves.

What will I become? he thought. He had never been so bothered with his purpose in life. More of...who's..I will become. he wandered somewhere along the lines of a mate with that thought. He only knew love with his family, and didn't imagine loving outside of it, until recently. He had met mares before, but not with the intent on being serious. He was a hardcore flirt, like his father, but not quite as smooth. He easily became goofy around the really pretty mares. But he had never thought about loving one.. Not to rush into it, but to simply consider it. He didn't know where to begin though. He also didn't want it to consume his life. Well, he didn't know what he wanted actually.

He could ask his dad... NO he shook his head in unison to his minds firm answer to that idea. His father was quite the ladies man around his mother, and a little full of himself at times. It wasn't the way he wanted to go about the situation. Hok'ee would no doubt teach him external things, to attract the attention of young beautiful mares. He chuckled at the idea. He loved his dad.

He however, wanted to approach the situation a little more gengirly. He didn't want to mess things up.

Mom.. he stopped in his step, raising his head up. She would know. He would find her, and see what she had to say.

It had been quite a while. Quite a while since Chu'mana had seen hide or hair of her children. And this made her heart ache. Yiska had wandered off not too long ago, something about traveling and meeting others. Shadi she hadn't spoken with in months and no news about her had come to the mare's ears. As for Vasu, well....he didn't stick around long after he grew.

But everyday, Chu put a smile on her face and wandered out into the fields. Hoping perhaps that someone would wander why. Someone she knew. And every evening when it grew darker and the cold set in she'd return home where she slept until the next day.

The sun had gotten high by now as she lazed beneath a shady tree. The heat of the summer had started to drift away and was being replaced by the cold chill of the winter months. Soon snow would be falling. Most trees would be bare and the whole world would seem to have come to a stand still as it was gripped in the icy grasp of winter.

Bright green eyes scanned the field as a subtle sigh escaped from her mouth. It felt as if she was out of place. The world just zipped by without notice. Though hard to explain. As if she were in a dream, yet awake and aware.

He traveled on an invisible path, towards where he thought his mom might be. He had always known the way.. He recalled times spent with his mother, and could think of few past adulthood. His shoulders sank. Had he really been away that long?

He paused in the clearing, drawing his eyes closed as he drew in a deep breath. A gentle breeze blew over his mane, teasing his curls before passing away.

He opened his eyes. His eyes moved to a large, wise tree. Beneath it, the unmistakable markings of his mother, Chu'mana. He stood there and watched her for a moment. His eyes softened and his heart began to melt, before they were even close enough to speak.

With another deep breath, he began to slowly come to where she lay under the trees branchs.

Out of the corner of her eye, Chu spotted movement. Her head quickly moved in the direction she had seen it. And low and behold what she saw.

A wide smile graced her face as she quickly scrambled to her hooves. Her curly tail moving back and forth slowly as she waited in anticipation for her son to reach her. Having to restrain herself from rushing forward was hard. She had missed him and was glad to see nothing ill had happened.

Her smile softened as a soft nicker rumbled deep within her chest. Bright green eyes seemed to dance with excitement as she stood there. Still, that urge to spring forward and greet him and question him like a worried mother would bubbled up in the back of her mind as she beat it back the best she could.

Vasu watched his moms face light up. He chuckled as an almost foal-like warmth spread to his feet. He held it back for a moment, thinking Oh, what the heck.. before giving in and bounding over to her. He easily attained a sort of foal like attitude that surfaced when he wanted it too. Only in his actions, never in his words.

"Mother.." he called back to her greeting in a loving tone. His smile spread to his whole face, lighting up his eyes and lifting his brows.

He didn't hesitate as he reached the place where she stood. His neck reached forward as he collided into her face with a nuzzle. It felt so good to feel her warmth once again. He couldn't believe how happy it made him feel.

Letting out a whimsical laugh, she nuzzled her son back lovingly. Giving his muzzle a few tender licks. "Vasu. Its been so long. I was beginning to worry." Biting her bottom lip, she leaned back a bit so that she could get a better look at him. "But I'm glad to see you are ok. It puts my mind at ease."

Her eyebrows lifted slightly as her expression turned into a serious one. "You and your siblings have a bad habit of not visiting me." But in the same moment her expression returned to a soft one. Another smile parting her lips as she gave a cheerful flick of her tail. "How have you been? I want to hear all about what you have been doing while you've been out on your own." Chu'mana could remember the time when she herself had just become an adult and started exploring the world. Of course, she never had a mother waiting at home for her. Firefly had taken care of her as a foal. But...that was so long ago.

"Hey now." he teased as she licked his muzzle. It made him remember the days when he looked forward to a lick or n** from his mother. "Mom, I'm so glad I could find you." He came seeking advice, and even if he left without it, this was far more rewarding. "I am still your son.." he winked. "..no need to worry about that." He was trying to make her heart feel light, ridding it of pent up worry.

"Mom..." It was almost broke into two sylables as his shoulders sank at the thought of her being alone. "I didn't know." he shook his head, feeling somewhat regretful for not having visited more himself.

"I've not been doing anything exciting worth a report." his head looked to the side, away and down at the ground. He couldn't tell her of any special mare he had met, or close friends even. He raised his head up and smiled with his eyes barely touching his smile. "You could say I've been pretty lazy. I've met a few soquili here and there. But lazy for the most part." He grinned and laughed, unashamed of doing nothing for the most part.

Moving back into the shaded area near the base of the tree, the dark mare tucked her legs underneath her small body and lowered herself unto the dry, grassy ground. Her curly tail flopping against the earth as she motioned for him to join her.

"I know. But once you have foals of your own I'm sure you'll understand the way I feel. Its that circular idea really. You never understand why your parents fret and worry as much as they do until you are put into their position." That was one bit of advice she could give her son, even if he didn't understand it now. Sooner or later one day he would come to realize its truth and just what she exactly meant by it.

Smiling even more broadly, she turned her head at a slight angle. "Everything my children do is exciting and worth telling. Even if it is the slightest thing that doesn't seem all that much important. Its important to me."

He watched his mother move back under the tree, before following her. His bumbling butt fell in beside her with a thump on the ground. The ground rustled a bit as he got comfortable.

Looking to her face, he watched her as she spoke. Her voice was melodic and soothing, just as it had always been. Should a mothers voice ever be any different? He had met no mare that had such a sweet tone to her words, no matter what was said.

His eyebrow raised. Yeah, it made sense that he couldn't understand without being a parent himself, but the notion was foreign. "Once I have foals...." his eyes mirrored an expression of oddity and wonderment. "....if I ever have foals."

"I believe it's not as important as what I've been doing Ma, as to what I'd like to be doing." he paused, eyes rolling to the top of his head as he searched his brain. How could he say what he felt at the moment? He looked back at her and smiled with a cheesy grin. It would do for now.

Chu let a humble smile creep its way onto her lips as she gazed out towards the open expanse of land. The wind wiped across the grass, sending loose leaves dancing through the air.

Her head turned slightly to regard her son who had plopped down next to her. Not the most graceful of landings, but still. It was nice to have him near once again. "I'm sure you will one day. Maybe not right this moment, but one day." A soft breeze ruffled her curly mane. The rainbow bow attached behind her ear fluttered before it settled down against her head once more.

"Then...what is it you would like to be doing, Vasu'Raj?" The mare was a bit confused on the issue. What was it that any Soquili would like to 'be' doing instead of what they were actually doing now? Perhaps in a sense, Chu'mana had the same feeling. Staying in one spot day in and day out, waiting for her children or her mate to come by did start to seem pretty mundane. And it made her think. Perhaps it was time to re-evaluate her own life.

But first she had to take care of her children.

Vasu closed his eyes and breathed into the wind heavily as it passed over him. It had a chill and a bite in it's touch, telling a story of the coming months.

He opened his eyes as his mother spoke, turning to watch the ribbon dance in her hair. She was so pretty, and it made him smile. Not the type of goofy smile that he gave just any pretty mare, but this was his mother. He knew she was beautiful.

His smile faded. Eyes dropped to the side, seemingly peering through the ground. "Well...I'm not exactly sure." He took in a deep breath, held it, then let it go in a heavy rush. He didn't know how to start the conversation, nor what the outcome would be. He suddenly felt just plain silly. He should know these things...yet he didn't.

"Mom." he held her gaze now, a deep seriousness crossing his mug. Before he could finish, his eyes searched around and eye contact was lost. "I feel that I'm.." he stopped and a puff of air escaped his lips before continuing in a broken fashion. "I mean, is what I'd like to be doing.." he turned his eyes back to her. "..is finding a mare. And not just any mare." A wry smile pressed to one side of his mouth, and he almost started to blush.

The same smile held its place on her lips as she listened to her son. It seemed he was having a bit of trouble putting his thoughts to words, but still, she listened patiently like any mother would to their child's words.

As he looked away, she tilted her head slightly in a curious fashion. And as he finished speaking, her lips pursed into an 'o' shape. She'd figured her children were old enough now to be interested in the opposite sex, but perhaps she herself was not ready for this subject to be coming up. Chu'mana had thought about it before, but mostly in brief moments of silent contemplation.

Stretching her neck out, she placed her nose up against her son's. A cheerful yet calm expression in her bright green eyes. Thinking of what it was she needed to say next. "Well then. What exactly is keeping you from doing such a thing? If it is what you want then I figure you should go and do it."

Vasu shifted. "Well...I want to do it right. I'm not as smooth as dad is around the mares. I mean..." his face got a pitiful look of defeat on it as his words began to run together. "..how will I know if a mare likes me? How will I know that I really like her? Or what if I like a mare that doesn't me back?" he slowed as he got to the end of the last question. Feeling somewhat exhausted by the thought of it all.

A wry smile crossed his lips as he calmed down and looked to his mothers loving face. He wished for the days when he was a young foal, and nothing mattered at all. Those days were long gone, and things seemed like they couldn't always be so carefree.

Laughing lightly, she shook her head a bit. Curls bouncing against her face before she looked at her son again. Giving a small puff of breath to move the stray curls from her eyes. "Vasu, not everyone is perfect at being charming at first. It takes practice. No one can just do it right off the bat. Like walking. When your a foal, you first learn to walk. And its a bit wobbly, but after a while it gets easier and soon your walking like you've done it for years. Do you understand?"

Taking a deep breath, she considered his next few questions. "If a mare likes you, she will let you know in her own little ways. Don't get your hopes up right off the bat after meeting her, she may not be what you expect. Spend a little time with her and see if her personality is what interests you." Shifting her weight for a second, she continued. "How to know how you really like her....you want her around you all the time. Some would call it an almost walking on air feeling, or butterflies in your stomach. All I can say, is you'll know when it happens. And if she doesn't like you back, well then, she's not worth your time or affection."

His eyes were locked on Chu'mana as she laughed. He felt himself relax with the sound of her laugh. His ears were locked in her direction, listening to every word of advice that she offered him. He soaked up the analogy and nodded as she continued. "That makes sense."

"Well mom, I hope I am able to notice such things when they come around. I just don't want to be wrong." he shrugged. Nothing like this had ever crossed his mind, yet it seemed such a burden now.

He snickered a bit. "Is there anything I can do to make a female like me? Heh, or dislike me?" He flopped down on his side, his back close to his mothers warm side, grazing it more as she inhaled. "Maybe I'm thinking about it too much."

Vasu wondered if Shadi and Yiska had started looking for that someone.
