The air was cold as it whipped through the dried and flavorless grasses and nipped at the cow's nose and ears. The sky above was overcast, its normal shade of crisp pale blue hidden behind fat smears of goopey gray. The atmosphere was tense thanks to the coming of Anlach, which seemed to be able to annoy anything female that moved, including the currently half-awake cow.
Blitzen hadn't exactly been bothered all that much by others, but even so, she was still fairly in a "give me my damn space". ... at least for the time being.

Well there was one bull loitering about, and it was Dasher. Yet... he seemed to be able to sense Blitzen's mood and was keeping her distance. The bull trying to inconspicously graze on a nearby hill. However, he was watching her.. that almost wistful look in his eyes.
To tell the truth, Dasher had always had a crush on silver backed cow. She was beautiful, and strong... and well.. he admired her. She was something he was not. However, he might as well not exist in her eyes. Still he watched her, remembering that humiliating rejection from last Anlach. Donner never let him live it down, infact. How could he possibly try to impress a cow like that? He was pondering this as he pretended to be grazing, his eyes never seeming to leave her.

Blitzen slid open a single gold eye and surveyed her immediate surroundings in a lazy fashion. She spotted the bull on he hill after her third look around, and it was only when she actually saw him did she smell him as well. Giving a slight twitch of her nose as she inhaled, she realized who the hill-toper was and shifted her stomach on the moist ground.
Dasher. The storm hued cow had very mixed feelings for that one... and much to her brother's known happiness, they weren't exactly in the "hey, buddy" range. She didn't hate him, however... just definitely didn't approve of his childish actions and smart mouth.
She looked at him again with her one open eye and snorted out a plume of steam. She hadn't spoken to him much since the last Anlach and the birth of his two daughters. Aside from the bull-headed (no pun intended) move he pulled in front of the red deer, Blitzen still had a small feeling that perhaps he had matured since becoming something of a father.

Well it was clear to say that Donner and Dasher didn't get along. They had clearly different ideas about how the herd should be run. Donner thinking him rash and reckless, while Dasher thought Donner to be paranoid and selfish. While both might be right, it wasn't exactly making things easier in the herd. Who knows what might happen if the two bulls never managed to learn to work together.
Dasher seemed to freeze as he noticed that Blitzen had noticed him. He may have matured since the last Anlach... but he was still sore from the way she had rejected him last year. Being laughed at by a cow was certainly one of the most humiliating things that could happen to a bull during that time. It had left him bitter and deeply hurt, especially when Donner liked to rub salt in that wound. Which only made Dasher hate him even more.
Dasher turned his face away, still pretending to graze as he tried to think of what to do. He wanted to approach her and talk to Blitzen. But what if she didn't even want to talk? What if she ignored him... or chased him away or something... and even if she wanted to talk... what would he say? Surely there was no way that Blitzen would even consider standing with him... surely she had not changed her mind... or had she? Uncertainty.. confusion... even fear, was running through his mind.

Closing her one open eye, Blitzen snorted loudly and shook her head and neck, the bells pinging about in their jostled jingle. Upon regaining her previous stature, she looked across the low copses and dead grass with both eyes open. In less than a few seconds she had re-found the distant figure that was Dasher and just stared. Whether she was actually truly staring at him, or something else, was unknown... but whatever it was that she was staring at, it was at least in his direction.

Dasher eventually managed a peek back in Blitzen's direction and had it not been for fur, would have turned ghost white. Oh Herne help him.. she was staring at him. But was it a death stare or something else? Was she even staring at -him- or maybe some parasite stuck to his fur? Either way, Dasher's nerves weren't settled in the lease.
Alright... get ahold of yourself Dasher... its just a cow.. another reindeer. What could she possibly do to you other than gore you in a fit of rage for daring to breathe the same air as she? Erk. C'mon now.. she wouldn't do that. Even Blitzen isn't that heartless... right? Ever since that rejection, he had his doubts. But how was he ever going to get anywhere if he couldn't even approach her? How could he even face Donner if his sister scared him witless? No.. he needed to be a bull, and start acting like one. The worst she could do was just reject him again, and well... really that wouldn't be a surprise right?
Lifting his head, Dasher gathered up enough courage to turn around and slowly walk in her direction as calmly as he possibly could.

(( xD; He's so cute sometimes...))
Movement in her line of vision caused the cow to blink and refocus. She had been looking at him, but had soon drifted into some blank stare to fit her currently equally blank mind. However, she re corrected that and now watched with a raised brow as Dasher slowly turned 'round and started to walk in her direction.
She shifted her weight again and re tucked a foreleg close to her chest. Was he actually going to come over and talk? The immediate thought of the idea somewhat surprised her. Even so, though, she didn't think ill of his possible intentions, and stayed in her current position.
He better not pull anything stupid.

(( XDDD; He is. He's a poor confused fellow.. not always the brightest crayon in the box either. ))
Well she hadn't said something.. bad... atleast. Nor was she glaring at him... yet. Dasher swallowed hard, for now co made Dasher as nervous as Blitzen did. And why was that? Was it just because of the previous rejection? Well it certainly did play a big part... but also it was because he liked her.. a lot. And that made that rejection all the much worse. Anyway... focus on the here and now.. not the past, right.
"Um.. hi there" he said softly, mustering a nervous smile. He wasn't trying to pull anything 'stupid' but in his nervous state, who knew what he might do. Perhaps he had gone about it the wrong way last time, but that was likely due to ignorance and trying too hard.
Dasher mentally grumbled at the stupid greeting. Yeah.. that was real suave and smooth righ there. Feh.

Haha, smooth indeed.
Blitzen let a marginal smirky-smile flit across her features for a few seconds before she bowed her head and greeted him. "'Lo, Dash. How're you?"
She flicked her gold eyes across his mottled brown form and quirked a brow to herself. Was he always so... jittery-ish? She gave a quick thought back into her memory banks, but quit halfway and shrugged it of. It didn't matter.

No not really.. but when it came to females, he was... cause well.. so far he hadn't gotten any positive answers from any females other than Dancer. Dancer was a great cow and all... and he cared for her deeply.. but... was one cow the best he could do? Although inwardly, he kept telling himself that Donner had none.. but how long would that last?
An ear turned as Blitzen greeted him in return. Well.. it was a start.. right? Hopefully. "Uh.. fine fine." His head bobbing with each 'fine'. Now what did he say, "How about you?" Yeah.. that was good. Although in truth he wasn't really 'fine'... for if he was 'fine' he wouldn't be so nervous, but well... he didn't take that into consideration.

Blitzen continued to watch him with a slightly canted head. "I'm fine," she replied, and dipped her muzzle slightly in a small bob of the head. Gold eyes flicked over him again as an ear twitched.
"How is your family?"

Dasher smiled a little more when she asked about his family, "They're doing fine. Seren and Fenna are nearly grown up now. I think Dancer will miss them when they start wandering off more on their own, I will too." The both of them were good girls, and Seren seemed to be very smart.
"Speaking of family... I haven't seen your brother, Rudolph in awhile. Is he well?" He's been wondering about the red-nosed youngster, and wasn't sure if Donner was just keeping him away from everyone due to his overprotectiveness or what.

Blitzen nodded at the news about his offspring. She'd never personally interacted with them, but even so she could see promise from them.
At the mention of her younger brother, the cow blinked and laughed lightly. "I've haven't seen him as much either, but he's fine. Spends more time in the forest doing who knows what than anything else. ...I think Donner's given up on trying to keep sharp tabs on him."
(( o-x; I actually have no idea what's up with him or the person who plays him [name escapes me at the moment] ))

Dasher chuckled lightly, "Well atleast he's fending more for himself, I guess." It was good... he remembers Rudolph being rather shy and introverted with Donner constantly hovering over him.
"So um... what have you been up to lately? Haven't seen a lot of you either... but then, we're all pretty spread out, aren't we? Your antlers look really good this year, even better than last years." Dasher's perhaps somewhat pathetic attempt at complimenting Blitzen. He was really trying to be on her good side.

The cow gave an inward chuckle towards his compliment. "Thank you," she replied as she shifted her weight on the snow. "But yes, on the topic of being seen, we are all pretty spread out, especially for such a small herd." She shrugged lightly, "oh well, though."
