Dry land was such a hostile place, unforgiving under a scalding sun or freezing cold. Danger practically lurked at every corner for those who entered unknowingly into the forests, full of toothed beasts that wanted nothing more than to feast on the flesh of it's brethren. Why anyone would want to live out of the water was a mystery, especially to Devalen.
The kelpi rarely showed his face close to the shore, preferring the safety of the water pressing against his sleek form than open air and sand stuck to his legs, yet some days he couldn't help but find himself at the edges of his home and of dangerous dry land. Normally, he did so when no one was about, looking for wave-driven seaweed on the bank to nibble upon on days when he was too lazy to dive deep for something a bit more fresh.
Today, the dark-skinned stallion effortlessly glided into the shallows, his eyes casting a wide path around to spot for anyone who might be nearby. He was not a coward, but he was not stupid either. Dev did not go looking for trouble; usually, it came to him.

Asherah, on the other hand, wasn't generally much trouble. She'd stuck close by the sea, despite the fact that she probably shouldn't have after the experience she'd gone through, and was currently standing a fair bit away from the crashing waves as if contemplating trying to put her trust back in the sea.
It had once been implicit, unyielding - until the storm where she'd been unable to get back to the shore. And now there was a niggling fear in the back of her head. But Asherah, being the daughter she was, refused to give into it completely. Hooves dug into the sand as she crept closer, constantly-wet hair flowing behind her and dragging against the earth, bringing it with her.
Aqua eyes squinted as a form moved in the distance and curiosity overrode fear as the sea-mare made her way closer to the water, "Hello?" she called, her voice's melody and carried by the wind.
Oh, please don't let it be a sea monster.

As the water parted across the crest of his back fin, he probably did give a strong aura of something monstrous as he moved into shallower water. He was a large beast, for one, bearing sharp fins that looked quite formidable and very unsoquili-like. Secondly, the stallion looked battle-worn, to an extent. With one eye marred with a strong scar that also drew attention to the broken stump of what was once a regal horn, he had clearly seen his share of fights. The fact that he was emerging from something as foreboding as the sea probably didn't help either.
Even with limited visibility in his damaged eye, he could still make out the form of the strange mare and he paused, snorting a fine mist of water from his nostrils as he contemplated his course of action. The mare looked less than pleased with his appearance. Nay, she looked scared. A shame, as Dev wasn't the sort to cause any female fits of terror, but he wondered if it was for the best. Perhaps this mare was one of those sorts that used a pretext of harmlessness to lure unsuspecting stallions in. Dev was awfully fond of keeping what was left of his body in one piece.
For the moment, he stared at her, halting his progress in water that just barely brushed his underside, his wings splayed slightly.

Afraid? No, Asherah wasn't afraid. More..cautious than afraid. It was a difficult thing, regaining trust that was once broken. Though, for Ash, her curiosity had finally won out completely and she started making her way closer to the water. "I see you, it's only polite to answer, you know." came her voice as she drifted inch by inch toward him.
He could be rude about it if he wanted, but that wouldn't be making a friend now, would it? Of course not! Creatures of the sea - they could be her friend, even if the sea itself would not be for a long time. Luckily, Dev seemed to catch the female in a good mood and not one of her more snappish ones.
"Well?" A pushy one, was she, but she didn't seem harmful in the least bit. Likely because she wasn't. Sure, she could take care of herself if she needed to...But she didn't have a horn or sharp teeth and her hooves were worn down. Best she could do is fly away or head-butt someone. And a head-butting mare wasn't enough to strike fear into anyone's heart.
