Breat Cancer Awareness Month

Hello Everyone. Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I've seen nothing but pink in every store, I thought it would be nice to have a thread to talk about it.

..Interesting Facts..

Every 2 minutes, there is a new breast cancer diagnosis.

Every 14 minutes, a life is lost to the disease.

Over 40,000 people will die this year; about 400 of them will be men.

85% of all diagnoses have no family history.

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between ages 40 and 55.

Each year, about 1,700 men in this country learn they have breast cancer.--- http://www.cancer.gov

The whole commercialism of Breast Cancer Awarenss is really irritating and unsettling to me....

Not saying it's bad to care, though... I just don't like the commercialization of it.

It is strange to walk into a department store and see a million things in pink. o.O I always thought that part of what you pay for the pink things go towards breast cancer research and so on... If it didn't, then I'd probably be irritated too.

What is irritating to me, is that they don't do this for AIDs, Testicular cancer, and so on. (or at least I have never seen it done for these things)

Gotta agree with you there. Especially since AIDs is far more deadly and can be caught - you can't catch breast cancer. You can have increased risk, but there is no way to pick it up from someone else. But any and all awareness is good.

I'd rather have them spread the word this way, than thousands of women getting sick and dying, because they didn't know how to spot the signs, or only thinking older women get breast cancer.
