Freya had been gone from his side for a long time now, his heart grew worried that perhaps she had decided to leave him. Perhaps for good. He was not used to the savanna, no not yet and it was difficult being here alone. He had gotten used to his land feet and he was still able to climb the trees with ease. No place had a good home to stay, all these trees were short and scranny that no leaves could hide him. Is she really gone now?

His ears flicked as his body laid up in a decent size baobao tree, looking out for the dark red, yellow spotted female. She was nowhere to be seen. As time passed on, it grew clearer and clearer that she was not coming back. Yet he will wait here for another moon or two before leaving himself. Somewhere in his heart, he hoped that she would return to continue their travels.

Ba'kru sighed and rolled up in his tree, the sky was darkening from the time between the light and dusk; twilight. The moon's light was about but not strong just yet and the sun light was about but also not as strong. His dark blue fur, streaked with black and robin's blue laid hidden in some leaves. A single star shown overhead. His steel blue eyes seeking answers.

Was it his yearn for love that drove her away? Was it his desire to find cubs knowing that he no longer seeked the comfort of the females of his own kind? Or was it just him?

Something had to change, something had to snap him out of it all or he'll forever remain this way.

Kyroji'zale was currently not a very happy leopard. He didn't know what had possessed him to leave the comfort of the jungle. Momentary insanity most likely. Whatever it was, he was very pissed at it, and vowed never to do it ever again. That was, if he ever found the jungle again. Sadly, Kyro was very, very lost at the moment. And his feet hurt.

Ears back, and storm clouds brewing on his brow, he weaved through the tall grasses of the savanna. The trees were too far in between, there was no shade, the day had been horribly hot, he hadn't eaten, and he was parched. As he glanced up with his smoky eyes, a small bit of relief came over him. It was finally getting darker, and he could hunker down somewhere for the night. He'd lived in fear all day with his light gray pelt, fear of running into something much larger than him. But he also hadn't run into anything smaller than him, and that had meant no food for Kyro's hungry belly.

Dragging his feet like a sulky child, Kyro made his way towards the closest tree. They had sorry excuses for trees out here - nothing like the lush vegetation he was used to. But, at this point, he really wasn't going to be picky.

As he neared its trunk, he stretched his slender body out, a wide yawn stretching his maw. He shook himself, fluffing his tail out - walking through the grass all day had left him itchy. A huge sigh escaping him, he flopped dramatically on the ground at the base of the tree on his belly. He couldn't stand this anymore. He wanted to go home.

Ba'kru watched the sun had vanished now and the moon become the dominant source of light at that moment. The starts twinkled into sight one by one as the one most used was brighter than the rest. It was about time he had gone asleep though his species were often nocturnal, he was not when it came to being out in the savanna. It had changed him in the sense that he could walk more comfortably on land, he could run just a little faster, and that his sleeping pattern changed a little. Most of all, his yearn for a female company. However, that would never change it seemed.

With a yawn, he stretched out in the tree, leaves rustled and getting loose of their branches, shaking down to the ground below. Normally, when the leaves fell and hit the grass, there would have been a second rustle. However, there was something that interrupted the rustle. Looking down below, another feline had taken shelter here. With closer inspection, he noticed that it was another leopard. Thinking, Ba'kru shrunk back into the tree, closer to the trunk to remain out of sight. Most of the body would be blended with the night sky, only his eyes and hind corners were vulnerable to the sight of another. Was there a point in hiding? Likely, this male was not used to the land just yet, he has yet to meet many land travelling leopards.

He looked down at the grey form, ones that look almost like the clouds. Curious, he took a closer look. He did not seem harmful, but he could not take his chances. The leaves prior must have given him away so his only defense was this tree and his ability to actually run away. Best not be rude and upset this one.

"Who are you?" he called out, looking down at him through the leaves. "What is a leopard doing out here?"

Kyro's eyes had just started to drift to a close when all of a sudden, there was a tickling sensation along his back. And then something crinkly fell right between his ears. Confusion blotting his handsome face, he raised his head, shaking his gray tuft. Leaves. There were leaves all over him. That wouldn't have been so odd if it was the season when leaves fell freely from their parent trees, but nowadays, the only way they floated towards the ground was if someone dislodged them.

Immediately wary, he raised first his eyes, then his head towards the sky, peering into the dark boughs of the tree. At first, he saw nothing but velvet blue and twinkling stars...but a few of the stars looked a little stripier than they should be. The fur standing up along his back, the young male leopard raised himself to his paws, silver eyes locked intently on this other creature. He inhaled deeply. Leopard. Male. They seemed about the same size, but Kyro was always wary. His smooth charms couldn't get him away from another male as easily as they could an uppity female.

However strange it was to see another of his kind in the savanna, his muscles still tensed in order to run away as quickly as possible should the other become aggressive. But then he spoke, coming closer into view. Perhaps he wasn't a threat after all? Relaxing somewhat, he left his rump settled to the ground, and his normal easy grin to come to his maw. "I could ask the same of you," he chuckled lightly. "I'm Kyroji'zale. Who're you?"

Ba'kru's head appeared out of the leaves, nothing but his head to reveal stripped face of black and blue. His soulful, piercing blue eyes looking down at him with a slight smirk. He did not seem agressive, perhaps it was just paranoia that got to him and nothing more. He looked over the male carefully, to assest the sitatuation he may be in later if he happened to cross this one. He was mostly grey, light, middle, and dark ranged colors. His eyes matched a mixture of the dark and middle grey where as his underbelly and paws, some around his facial features, were of the light variaty, there was a dark blot on his back and head. He seemed like a good, jungle cat.

"Name's Ba'kru, I live out here in the savanna. I will assume that this is your first time out here?" he smirked and pulled his head back in before climbing down to a lower branch to show more of himself, his tail idly falling down over the the short limb. The leopard had been travelling with a female cheetah for a time before she disappeared on him. That was how he ended up here in the tree; waiting for her to return but that would not ever happen. So it seemed.

"Normally, we jungle cats stay in the comfort zone of the jungle, pouncing on our prey and carrying them away up into the trees. Here, that isn't so easy. The trees are small, short, and have little leaves. To pounce on a prey is hard, and the fall doesn't give us enough power to take it out quickly. So we have to chase our food here, do you think you can manage that, Kyro?"

Still peering at the leopard warily, Kyro let his lean body relax a little more. They seemed about the same size, and in a panic, Kyro had been known to beat a fast trail in the opposite direction. He knew his charms wouldn't work on someone of the same gender as he, but his normal suave grin couldn't help itself and made its way onto his face. "It's a pleasure, Ba'kru. And it is my first time on the savanna, and a mistake I'll never make again," he huffed, casting an evil glare at the flat, sparse land around him. His little adventure had really not been a good one.

His silver glare still on the land, he returned to the conversation at hand. "Catching prey is much more difficult out here. There's not as much coverage for that element of surprise," he said. Not that Kyro ever really used that 'element of surprise'. He preferred the easy way out, bullying others out of their own meal and taking it for his own. He wasn't really that lazy, he just...didn't see the need to make effort where none was needed.

"And it is awfully rare to see another one of our kind out here. Pray tell what madness has come over you to make you want to live in this wretched place?" His voice was full of stark honesty. The gray leopard was truly amazed that any would chose this hot, dry place over the humid lushness of the jungle.

"Love, my dear friend, love," he replied as he looked out into the savanna. He was not shy enough to keep this story to himself, he would rather have people hear it out to understand the 'vandal' that was Kru. His icy blue eyes glanced over at him and smiled. "There is no love for me in our home, Kyro, this land is filled with females that may be willing to love and I would gladly love them back. But back home, I have been rejected far too much to find the will to seek out a leopardess. Though I have always dreamt of having a family, it seems I will not have that. But my heart still yearns for love, you see, and that is why I am out here. Seeking any female to love me."

"If it is a matter of hunting, that has grown to a little problem for me. I can catch small antelope only when they cross under my tree, mind you, I never stay in the same tree for long," he nodded. He still implemented the old style of the leopard hunting into that of teh savanna. Most have never seen a leopard so they pay not much mind, but they are cautious. He simple drops down and in their daze, catch them off guard. "One gets used to it after a few cycles."

(( It's alright. Hey! Kru found a very nice girl to become his life-mate! :3 -try not to mention hybrids to him x3-))

Kyro settled his belly against the ground, tucking his front paws underneath his chest. There was no threat here, he was sure, and so he had no reason to be uncomfortable. Ah! The subject of love. It was a thing he was familiar with (in a certain way), and a subject he held near and dear to his heart. Yet it appeared he viewed the subject in another light. "Ah, but rejection is one of my favorite parts. It only makes the prey that much more tantalizing and desirable. And why bother with a family?" He chuckled as he rolled over on his back. "Why bother when you can bask in the love of many instead of tying yourself down to one?" Kyro firmly believed in 'free love', and firmly believed that he would never, ever dare to settle down. In fact, that was one of the most horrifying thoughts in this entire world to him. He shuddered mentally.

He turned his pale eyes back to Ba'kru. "Hunting is a completely different matter," he said, a hint of distaste in his voice. "I haven't managed a single kill while I was out here. Everything is too flighty and sees to well. But I've resigned myself to an empty stomach until I return to the jungle. There, at least, if food is hard to come by, there's always something smaller to knick it from."

{awww! that's fantastic! <3}

Kru cocked a brow at the male. "Mating around is something I do not go for, my friend. I have known a few males who sought females for purely the mating and pleasure. It is all good, however, I do not want any part of it. I chose to have a family because I will always be happy that way, and if I am lucky, my mate will all I need for my own desires," he chuckled as he truly thought that was it. The problem was that he had to find a female that could be his mate. However, the leopardesses will not touch him with a ten foot branch. "If that is what you are into, I guess it's up to you."

"Hunting is a little harder, but it not as hard as you make it out to be. If you are patient, you could still drop to catch them. Or you can try your hand at the field mice," he chuckled as he looked back up at the tree.

"I should get to sleep soon, I have to wake up early and full of energy before I get going again. With a wonderlust like mine, I have to keep moving and hope I find that one special girl, you know?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2007 1:16 pm

Kyro chuckled. "I choose not to mate to any, but simply to woo them. For me, a flutter of the lashes and a kind word is all I need." And it was. Kyro, while he did enjoy the pleasures a female could provide, rarely seduced anyone. It was much to risky, what with the chance of cubs popping up, and then the mother hunting him down and making him share the responsibility. Oh no, that life was not for him. He barely managed to look out for himself most of the time. A whole family? They would all starve if they relied on him.

The silvery leopard poked his tongue out at the thought of hunting. So much...effort. Who had the energy to chase something down, or the patience to wait up in a tree on the off chance something came by and didn't smell you? Surely not he. "Field mice," he said musingly. "I imagine twenty of those little things might put an end to an empty belly." He laughed. "But they're almost harder to come by than anything else."

He turned his eyes up to the darkening sky. It was getting late...and he did have his own journey to make in the morning, back to his home. "Would you mind to terribly if I shared your tree for the night as well? I'd sleep at the base, of course." He grinned charmingly. "And I do wish you luck and happiness for your quest. My own is much more short-termed. I want only to find my way back to the jungle in the morn."

"But of course, please, sleeping on the ground only makes you open prey for the nocturnal hunters out here. While we ourselves are, we are much to tired to hunt and defend ourselves, I would assume. Please, come up for we leopards make our homes up here," he laughed and scaled the tree quickly before picking out a sturdy branch. Laying a paw under his head and the rest of his body over the branch, his legs and tail hanging off the sides, he watched him with careful eyes.

"Choosing not to mate is your choice. Choosing to flirt with them is also yours. But it is your responsibility if something were to go array, after all, we are males and we seek the company of the opposite sex," he smirked. He had always wanted the company of a female. His dreams consisted of females, mating, cubs, and a happy family to keep himself happy all his life. To love and be loved, to share wonderful nights with his mate, to see his blood line carried on, to watch his cubs grow into adults and go off to start their own lives. He wanted to give a family a chance when he never got to get the experience of his own. His heart yearned for the touch of a female. The kiss, the lick, the nuzzle, and the smile of that beautiful face of someone he loved. Though his dream may never become true, his heart still yearned and thus he was out here seeking for his love.

"Food is food, my friend. How you get it is a luck of a draw. Come, get some rest, I suspect you have a long journey before you," he let out a yawn before resting his eyes. He too had his own journey but his was a little more difficult to accomplish.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2007 2:38 pm

Kyro shuddered thinking of responsibility. Since he'd left his mother's side to venture out on his own, he'd always shirked it. He'd scavenged off lesser predators, snagged eggs out of a tree or two, and generally just lived off the land without making much of an effort on his own. It had been a pleasant enough life, filled with lots of naps and plenty of time to play. He had no desire to change that lifestyle just for some girl. Of course, if he slipped up once, he'd be forced to care for the little brats. He wasn't that cold-hearted.

But enough talk of such conflicting subjects. A yawn stretched his maw. "Thank you kindly," he mumbled sleepily, pulling his lanky body upwards and towards the tree. He dug his claws into the soft bark, pulling himself up swiftly. It definitely wasn't as covered here as the trees in the jungle, but Kru had a point. Anything could sneak up on him if he stayed on the ground.

Settling himself in the joint between two branches, he flopped his silky body over them. His eyes already closed, he cracked open one to look at the other leopard above him. "'Night," he said softly, before another yawn consumed him and he drifted off into a delightful sleep.
