In reality it was my father who figured this out, but still, I thought I could at least share this with the rest of you.

The government as of late has been trying to throw religion out of all political matters. They've been trying to kick out any form of religion so to create a pure government built on the rules that bide them. Separation of church and state will finally be accomplished. But is this all they're after? When we look at the signs of god in government we see two documents of the early Americas. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Both of these great documents have one phrase in common on the subject of religion: "These rights given to the people, are undoubtably God given." Also translated to, "These God given rights," but not the point. When you think about separation of church and state, and then look at these two documents, what do you see? If god is thrown out of our government, then there is nothing to grant us our rights but the government itself. Therefore, the government is in complete control over everything that we do.

Do I believe that is true? Not really, but I just wanted to point it out to the rest of you and see if anyone has an opinion over this matter.

Wow that's interesting I never thought about that but one thing is for certain the last thing that should have the sole power to grant us rights is the government

So true. The sad part is, They seem to believe they already have it. What they don't realize is that rights, by definition, cannot be given, nor taken away. Only privledges can be given or taken away, and we don't get our freedom from a Bill of Privledges, though I sometimes sarcastically call it that in reference to the governments disregard for it. Our rights need to be defended like rights. We should not allow the government to remove or even restrict them, or we give them up altogether.

Rights do not exist.

We only have priledges that are granted to us in exchange for obedience to a nations laws and regulations.

If you find yourself in a deserted jungle, your rights will not form a magical barrier to protect you.

Likewise, if you have committed a crime, or have done something to offend your privledge, the government can easily take away your priledges as we do to criminals.

Hence, the only way rights could possibily exist, is if a supernatural entity granted them. Such as god. Rights cannot be given out by humans who can revoke them at will. Of course the fact that god does not exist means rights do not exist, we only believe that it does for both aphysical concepts.

I think the Separation is a necessary rule in order to ensure the Free Exercise of Religion. I personally agree that 'rights' are a political construction that we negotiate with our government. They are not 'God given'. For those of you who believe in the Christian version of God, he more or less leaves us to our own devices while we live.

Don't get me wrong, when ever I say things like this to people, someone inevitably says...."So you think its okay to violate someone's rights?" and the answer is no. Just because they are a social construction and not some magical rule inherent in the nature of humanity does not mean that I don't like them and would not fight to keep them.
