Sometime during the night, the sky opened up and spilled it's contents upon a poor unsuspecting town, which was now drenched and getting even more so by the minute. It was early minute, around 5:00 or so, and much of the populous was leaving for work, the streets nearly packed with grumpy people with umbrellas and over-filled taxis that had managed to take on that wretched wet-dog smell from their customers.
Yet a momentarily commotion was started on one street corner, causing quite a bit of shuffling and a few surprised gasps before a queer sight was seen. A small, soggy, puff-ball with a tiny carcass (most likely a rodent) in it's jaws wriggled from beneath the legs of many a human and scampered across the road. Several cars with squealing tires to let the animal by, foolish drivers opening their window to shout curses at the animal before starting off once more, now thoroughly soaked.
The animal though, made it's way to a nearby newstand's overhang, sitting down there momentarily to catch his breath. Ears flicked back as he set the mouse on the ground beside him, placing a paw on it for extra protection. No one would steal his breakfast this morning. "Stupid humans!" he hissed sourly, watching as his shouts went sadly, un-noticed.

It wasn't too far away that a beautiful purebred Japanese Bobtail sat on the stoop of her upper-middle class human family. The cat's nose wrinkled at the rain; she hated it. In her mind she wondered why in the world her humans let her out. Reason not to #1: She was BEAUTIFUL. Someone could steal her. Reason not to #2: It's raining. Cats hate rain, don't they?
It was so early in the morning when her human placed her outside. Making her question why in the world her lovely owner would scoop her from her warm bed and make her sit outside in the cruel, nasty world. Speaking of her owner, he also had promptly sped away in his Jaguar after doing this.
With a sigh the house cat scrunched into a bunny-like pose, squinting her eyes while gazing out onto the busy pavement. She certainly hoped her master would return soon.
She was getting a bit hungry after all.

Sheltered momentarily under of the awnings of the news stand, the cat contemplated eating the mouse or finishing it off back at his current residence, though with the heavy rains it seemed the latter option seemed highly unappealing. But what he wanted was not to be, as several people, seeking shelter from the downpour crowded in the exact place where he was, and the Manx tom quickly reconsidered, especially when one careless human creature nearly stepped on his food. Quickly grasping the rodent in his jaws, Mowgli dashed from under the stand and down the street, trying his best to leap over puddles and keep on his feet.
"Stupid butt-scratchers.." the cat growled through his teeth, racing away and dodging legs and boots.

The Japanese Bobtail rested her head on her forepaws when she noticed movement under the newsstand that happened to be only a couple hundred feet away. Her muscles tensed, not yet noticing it was another cat, what if it were a dog? There were so many people around in the morning, whatever it was, it probably wouldn't even see her crouching there.
Her alert yellow eyes continued to watch the creature under the newsstand. That is...until it darted off. The cat sat up, attempting to see where it was going. Unfortunately it was coming in her direction. By now she had noticed it was only one of her kind. Still she had heard stories of street cats attacking house cats, and she wanted no part of it.
Without much time to hide, she sat as stiff as a statue, hoping this dirty street cat wouldn't even notice her as it passed by.

Dashing through the streets, the cat glanced around quite frequently, breakfast still held fast, for some place to rest. Blue eyes came upon a town house's front steps, and quickly his path changed as he made a bee-line towards that. But little to his relief, as he reached the door, a vicious barking and scrabbling paws came from inside.
The door shuddered as the canine occupant behind it rammed itself into the wood, jaws clicking franticly. Nope, definitely not this house. Jumping to his paws in surprise, the Manx tom leaped from the cement steps to atop a garbage can, beginning to skid from can to bag, to bag, to can, to reach the next stoop. Little did he know of it's hidden occupant.
Leaping up and over the small concrete border that separated the two homes, bright orange paws fell upon the steps, and panting the cat shook itself, blue eyes still glued to the past house's door in case the dog was able to get out.

The female cat gritted her teeth in effort not to make any noise. She was quite sure that the other cat would have recognized her by now, perhaps he was just ignoring her. Nevertheless she stood still, like a statue. Only her eyes wandering to catch a glance at the subject. The male cat didn't seem as bad as she had heard street cats being described. She had always heard they were horribly dirty and flea ridden, but this tomcat seemed to take care of himself quite well.
Still afraid to make herself noticed, she held her breath, hoping that he would leave soon. Until a speck of rain dropped on her noise, making her nose itch intensely. It was so intense she could hardly ignore it. The itch on her noise increased to that she HAD to sneeze. She couldn't hold it back any longer...
"Aaahh...Aaaah...CHU!"

As the barking and howling died away, the tom-cat relaxed quite a bit, though back still turned to the other on the porch-steps. Beginning to wash his paws, Mowgli lay his prize by his feet, stubbed tail making an attempt to curl around him for warmth.
'Aaahh...Aaah...CHU!'
The noise made the cat spring to his feet, fur immediately puffing itself up in surprise and a orange head whipped around, blue eyes widened in surprise. Imagine his shock to notice that there was another cat here! A queen, even!
"Bless you." Mowgli said slightly shakily, sitting down on his haunches once more, still quite bewildered from the jump.

"Uuuh...thanks..." The lady cat said quietly, still a bit uneasy with being so close to an unfamiliar animal. She inched a little further away from him, just in case he had a disease or something else icky. It was indeed getting a little chilly on these short autumn days.
With the raise of an eyebrow she eyed the street cat and noticed he had a dead mouse. "Uggh." She said rather rudely. "I hope you're not going to eat that disease ridden rodent."
The lady cat figured that she might as well talk to the tom since it appeared her owner wouldn't be returning for the moment.

The tom gave a small smile at her reply, not at all worried or uncomfortable at the close proximity of them both, though apparently she was.
Leaning down to actually start on said breakfast (of course he'd offer her some first), Mowgli stopped, looking with a look of light surprise in the blue eyes towards the queen. 'Disease ridden rodent?' He thought for a moment, resisting the urge to raise an eyebrow and laugh at her. Silently he let his eyes slip down her frame once or twice before smiling. 'House cat', he mused, 'definitely a house cat....'
"Well miss, may I ask what you suppose I am going to do with it, if not gain nourishment?" He inquired quite innocently, purring whilst he spoke.

The female squinted her eyes at the male, hinting a bit of smartness in his voice. Cleverly, she came up with her own reply. "Oh, I don't know, maybe you're trying to kill yourself." She smiled at this, and jumped down from the ledge, still keeping her distance.
From there she saw the mouse a bit closer, and despite her not wanting to think it appetizing, her stomach did. Her stomach erupted into a soft grumble and she hoped he didn't notice.

The tom kept his good-natured smile, slightly amused at the female's curt answer. "Why, I would never dream of doing such a horrendous thing in the presence of a lady like yourself."
He replied, sounding horribly aghast at the mere thought of such as he shook his head. Mowgli took a small step back to give her some room, and despite her former disgust at his choice of a meal, she (or at least her belly) seemed quite interested in it. He tried not to smile.

The lady cat grinned softly, hoping he really didn't notice her stomach grumble. "I've never met a street cat before. I hope you didn't mind when I acted a bit cautious." She looked down at the mouse. It smelled delicious, but she could never eat such a thing!
"I'm Miyako."

Whatever the cat heard he made no mention of it. Naw, naw, why that'd be just plain rude! And it was obvious to him this chick wasn't the type to go for ignorant jerks, though it was quite a bit of fun when they did.
"My dear, I might have been quite concerned had you not been cautious of me. Some street-dwellers are hardly model citizens, though I can completely assure you that there is nothing you can fear from me!"
Mowgli purred, settling back onto his haunches as he offhandedly her eying the meal he'd caught.
"Well, miss Miyako I do hope you'll forgive my horrid manners. I am Mowgli, tour guide to the stars and the top cat in this town."
