He probably has an idea that Hojo does. During the play in the festival episode Hojo challenges Inuyasha to a sword battle for Kagome's affections. (Princess something or another in the play)Inuyasha takes out his sword, thinking this is all real. Just when you think Hojo's a goner this watermelon demon thing appears and interrupts.
