It was early morning, the sun's rays bathing the sky in color. Across the open Savannah, life was beginning to stir. Around one side of a moderately-sized waterhole was a tiny collection of brush. A mouse squeaked and crawled out from under it, braving it's way to the water. The brush rustled and a purple head appeared, tongue stuck out of the side of the mouth and a jaunty grin on its muzzle.
The purple wild dog, Bambadege, wiggled her way through the rest of the brush much to the distress of the mouse and pounced on the stock-still creature. "Heehee!" she giggled with glee. Success! It was another morning free for her to perfect to her own ways and life. She had not a thought to what her other days have been like or the fact that she was once small. Her life was free and easy and she knew no other way.

Kichanga was not a morning dog, not by any stretch of the imagination. He preferred afternoons and evenings. Mornings were often damp, and it felt so uncomfortable on his fur.
Of course, if he wanted to avoid moisture, sleeping by the waterhole had probably been a bad choice for Kich. Still, he had reached the hole dehydrated and exhausted just the prior night, and as soon as he got a drink he laid down and slept beneath a tangle of brush. And he would be sleeping still had his sensitive ears not picked up on the distinct sound of rustling nearby. He cracked open an eye to observe, wanting to be cautious but not yet having the will to get up. He sighed when the tiny mouse emerged and paused by the water. "Oh, just a mouse," he muttered.
Then something much bigger landed nearby. "AH!" Kichanga leaped up, paws flailing and scrambling. As soon as he was standing and saw the female there with the mouse under her paws, he sighed with relief... and embarassment. Way to go, buddy boy, he thought. "What are you planning to do with that thing?" he inquired to Bambadege. "It's barely a mouthful."

Her eyes, full of mischief and delight, twinkled as she turned to look at him, the mouse still stuck between cupped paws. What silly thing he was, jumping like that. She was not playing with him, no, no. Or at least not yet. She slid the corners of her mouth downward in the form of a pout. "I was just playin' with him."
Eat mouse? Nope, nope. She did not eat mice. Mice did not taste good and she was not a cat. She was a dog. Bambi wagged her tail as if to reassure herself of that fact. "I am Bambadedge. Who are you? I noticed you were asleep. Don't you like the morning? By the way, just call me Bambi. It's much easily to say and remember." She nodded to affirm her statement.

Kichanga watched her a little uncertainly, the glitter in her eyes making him wary. "Oh... oh I see," he said, eyeing the writhing form of the mouse just below her paws. He wasn't sure how proper it was to play with little living things and terrify them like that, but he didn't want to say it. He thought if he did, she might get upset... or cry... and he wasn't sure if he could handle that this early in the morning.
"Well, it's nice to meet you Bambade... er... Bambi. I'm Kichanga, but you can call me Kich if you want," he said. He sat with a sigh and drooped a little, wiping at his tired eyes with his paws. "No, no Bambi I don't like the morning. And I actually didn't sleep much last night at all. Sorry." His statement was punctuated by a long, wide yawn, as though to make a point. Though he was trying his hardest to hold his head up straight and be respectful, he wasn't succeeding very well.

Bambi made a face as though she was being reprimanded and released the mouse as if to demonstrate her good will towards the mouse. She watched it twitch and then scurry away as though its life depended on it. The mouse was no help in proving her case, the scaredy cat -erm, mouse.
She watched him yawn as if inspecting every little tooth inside his mouth with interest. "I sorry you didn't sleep well, Kich. I slept well, I suppose. I'm not tired." For in truth, she didn't believe she went to sleep for be sleeping, one has to first go to sleep and she could not remember doing so. "Are you always here?" she asked curiously. She had no clue if she did. So she had no clue what it was like. She had spent the morning exploring but that didn't necessarily mean anything.
Bambi looked at him curiously. "You look awfully nice, ya know." Of course, she meant nice as in he looked like a nice person. ...not that she was a good judge of character.

Kichanga sunk a little, sorry that he couldn't escape affronting Bambi just a little, but simultaneously relieved to watch the mouse scamper away. He was still watching the grass where it went off as the female began to speak to him again. He listened, and he heard every word he said, but in his sleepy daze he didn't even really think to look back at her. Later, when he was more awake, he would feel horrified at his prior lack of manners.
He did manage to shake his head a little as he replied. "No, I wander," he told her. "I just kinda slept here because this is where I laid down. And tomorrow, I'll probably be somewhere else." He shrugged, but the corners of his maw showed the beginnings of a smile. "That's just how I live.
Then Bambi got his full attention. "What!?" He swiveled about and stared at her for half a second in surprise... then lapsed into a sloppy grin. "Oh... well thank you for saying so." He suddenly felt awfully self conscious, like he should go take a dip in the waterhole or groom himself, but he didn't want to be too obvious. Not that he could stop himself from compulsively combing his fur with his claws now. "You look very nice yourself." And when Kichanga said it, he meant it in both senses, although he worried that this girl's mind might not be all there... but he could deal with that. He'd met a few very nice folks who hadn't been all there, and they made for very interesting company.
Anything to keep things exciting, right?

Ooooh he traveled? "Sounds cool," she said excitedly, wagging her tail. Then again, this place was cool to her. The sun had "brought" her there and it was exciting enough for her. She did not think about where she would be tomorrow because there was no yesterday to compare it to. There was only today. Carpe Diem.
She shook her head proudly and beamed as he gave her that sloppy grin. And then flushed just a little at his compliment. Bambi shook her head again to clear her thoughts before deciding to just go with it and not worry about anything ...which felt the most natural to her, almost like a habit. "Thank you," she said sweetly, tilting her head. She looked around with a cheerful face and smacked her lips. "Let's get something to eat."

Kichanga chuckled a little as his tail lazily thumped against the ground. "Yeah, it is pretty cool," he said, although it felt like the biggest understatement ever spoken. It was more than cool to him... it was the only way to live. He couldn't imagine a world where he always had to stay in one space. He thought he'd get awfully bored if he didn't come across something new every day.
If only he knew what it was like for everything to be new every day, as his company did.
But he managed to smile groggily at her as she thanked him for his compliment. Then she said something to him that made more sense than anything else she'd said to him yet. "Oh my gosh, yes," he replied, staggering to his feet. "I would love to eat right now." He yawned once more, stretched, then felt himself slowly growing more and more awake at the prospect of food. But... what to eat? He picked up his head and scanned the horizon and saw nothing... but he thought he smelled something. He beckoned Bambi to follow him with a tip of his head. "Follow me." With that, he scurried into the brush.

The energy Bambi had was never exhausting to her because there were no previous moments of high energy to recall. She was never bored, always excited. Even the most boring terrain supplied her with amusement, whether she found company or not.
Bambi's eyes lit up as he admitted to his hunger and looked around. She raised her nose to sniff the air, to mimic him and find whatever he found. She certainly smelled something but there was nothing in her brain to connect it to. The purple wild dog danced on her toes, feeding off a certain excitement in the air. Watching him bound into the brush, she danced a little faster and stuck her tongue out the side of her mouth. Her eyes lit up and as though they were a timer, triggered her leaping off after him. "Away we go~" she sang cheerfully. She had to admit, she was glad she had ran into another wild dog. The mouse would not have been this much fun.
((had a thought about the whole remembering thing. Maybe her memory issue is simply the fact that she doesn't think anything is truly worth remembering and after she meets him another time or two, she actually believes he is worth remembering him and promises him to try and remember him ...and eventually her memory problem is no more? xD;; A little too corny?))

((Maybe a little. XD We'll see how things progress.))
If only Kichanga could have been so energetic. Hungry as he was, he was still so groggy that it felt as though he was dragging himself along.
Even if he wasn't alert, though, his nose was. As they drew in closer, the scent became clearer, more distinct. Kich grinned broadly and turned back to Bambi. "We're having zebra this morning," he whispered to her with an excited lash of his tail. Zebra was one of Kichanga's very favorite meats, and since it was a little hard to come by it was a rare treat.
The dogs were already at advantage, being downwind, and they were given yet another advantage when Kichanga emerged from the brush to find themselves on the crest of a hill, with the zebras down below. "Stay low," he told Bambi, then eyed the herd, looking for easy pickings. A yearling stood on the edge, wandering yet further from the rest. Perfect.
Leaning in close to Bambadenge, he said, "Alright, listen... you see the little young one at the end. I want you to run at it as fast as you can, drive it away from the rest. I'm gonna cut around and catch him from the front. Can you do that?"

((alrightie then xD;; ))
Bambi smiled at him, her eyes widening in delighted disbelief as his whisper. Then again, it was a similar expression that she might have given had he asked that they lay down and stare at the clouds. But she was fresh and antsy and full of energy. So at the moment, hunting suited her best.
At his words, she crouched low, a silly, sly grin crossing her face. She nodded, "Yes, yes," she exclaimed, seeming ready to bolt into the thicket of herd. "I am ready." The scene could very easily be related to an army commander giving one of his recruits their first mission and briefing them on the info, while at any moment, the commander might finish his briefing and sharply send the recruit on their way. That sort of energy stirred in her feet and tickled up her legs, making them itch to move, to gallop through those tall grasses towards the black and white bodies below.

Kichanga grinned broadly, getting excited himself. Just the thought of the impending chase was waking his tired body, and his tail flicked with the rhythm of his heart. His eyes fixed on the zebra, he waited until it was just far enough from the rest of the herd to cut it off, then...
"Go!" he hissed to Bambi, then bolted down the hill. The downward motion and gravity gave him extra speed, which meant he was at the advantage. The frightened zebras fled, hooves and dirt flying, while Kich's target ran, thankfully, in the opposite direction. "Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!" the wild dog cried to no one in particular.
He drove the fleeing creature down a bank and into a dry brook bed, where he hoped it's steep edges would provide the perfect barrier for he and his companion to corner it.
It was all up to Bambi now.

At the word "go", all the built-up adrenaline was put to action. She lowered her head so that it was leveled with her back and galloped down the hill at full speed at the intended target. She tried to angle her approach to force its flight in the direction desired. Her face broke out into a wild grin as it did so, her tongue coming out the side.
As if it had added a certain energy to her run, she picked up any speed she had lost covering the ground to get to it and quickly came up behind the best. Trying to draw out some more speed, she bent lower to the ground to close in the distance. Almost like a lion, she attacked it from behind to try and take it down, her claws raking its behind. She had similar luck to lions when it came to grip but she was determined.

Kichanga gritted his teeth a bit as Bambi came down the embankment and snagged their prey from behind. He had been hoping that she could get it from the front so that they could trap it between them. Oh well, now he'd have to give it a shot. Leaving Bambi to take up the rear, Kich scrambled desperately up the steep embankment. It would be nearly impossible to take on with hooves, but claws gave the wild dog traction. He lost a lot of ground climbing, and muttered, "Oh, darn it all," to himself before bolting alongside the trench.
Gradually he picked up speed until he was practically running alongside the zebra. Then he lunged, landing on it's back as he took it by the throat. The creature went down, startled and flailing. "WATCH OUT!" he cried to Bambi as he struggled to maintain his grip on the wild creature.
Unfortunately, one leg caught him in the stomach and threw him off against the embankment, where his head struck the hard earth and he went down like a sack of rocks, knocked out cold.

This hunt was proof that Bambi was no where near a genius. When it went down, she got excited and started ripping at its hind end. She ignored his warning, fully lost in her hunter energy. All she could think of was blood and the meat just beneath the skin. But then her ears perked up and she looked up. He wasn't where he had been. He wasn't even relatively near the animal.
Abandoning it, she went in search of him and found him out cold on the ground. Prodding him, she tried to wake him up. But it didn't seem to be working. "Oh my gosh, I'm sorry," she cried, probably the only time in her short-memory-span existence. "Please wake up."
