Should we stop useing cars? I think its polluting the world a lot more then what it did whenwe used foot or horses! I think we shouldn't be allowed to drive cars just to drive. We should only use them to get to places like work or college. Nor should we use cars for criminal acts! Am I right?

I've got nothing against cars themselves. It's the fuel on which they run that's causing the problem. A more appropriate argument would be against the continued use of fossil fuels. There are already cars that run on alternative fuels like ethanol, which is much less harmful to the environment. They just haven't become widely popular yet.

Also, the hybrid cars are a lot better for the environment. And, uh, what zorlock said.

I look at this Global Warming thing and see many possibilities and scary future problems. Because of the way that nature has the strange ability to heal itself and we as humans have evolved to survive no matter what, I would say no. But also there is the health of our future generations and the Earth they will live on. That makes me think that we should go ahead and delay, if not prevent, the problem as long as possible. While I do not know what to do, I would take the most attractive side of the deal. Either drive and find a way of survival for my grandchildren, or don't drive and let everybody enjoy the same Earth that I have minus the driving. I know that this is difficult advice, but I hope that it might help people to decide whether to live the luxuries that might prevent the future on Earth for others, or to (what could be called control yourselves) so that the luxury of life can stay a luxury. neutral

I don't like cars or much of the modern day machines. The only thing that is better in the modern day is electronics (i.e. iPods, Nintendo, computers).

-.-;
Anyway, I agree with Zorlock. Besides, the government makes money through automotives and insurance so...
Yes. I have you by my side...

sweatdrop uh oh. people are going nuts! joke!
uhhmmm... i do know that cars contribute to pollution. but what can we do?when people walk or to the times when people ride horses? cars are necessities. it makes life easier. besides, there are other ways to help mother nature. for once, you can stop using chlorofluorocarbons or CFC's. that would mean not using your airconditioning. but that would suck right?

I don't have anything against cars. In many places, towns can be built far away from each other because cars can get to and from them easily. If we got rid of cars we would have trouble getting from place to place. If there was a law somewhere that said someone was only allowed to travel by means of a car with fuels such as gasoline etc. during times of danger or for maybe 1-2 hours a day, the pollution would be very far down. Even then however there will be a downside. Economy could go down. Some places wouldn't get as many tourists, etc. I think that if many people started switching their cars for more environmentally friendly cars, pollution would go way down.

We don't have CFC's in the air conditioners anymore, to my knowledge. As well, for the first post, It is not really a good point you made. We all know that needless driving is pretty bad for the environment and your pockets. You may have said that people could use public transport more or buy the energy efficient cars. And you also said that walking or using horsepower is much more environment friendly and I get the point you're trying to make but we have much more people than that time and happen to be in extremly different situations. We have much more people, for one. You also can't just get the positive effects of technology without acquiring some of the negative ones too. The tele and the computer are both examples of this and so are cars.

I think that we should, as some of you have said, use public transport, continue to push alternative fuels, walk if the distance isn't far, or even take a bike. It al;l depend where you live I guess. So Cal is warm and dry more often, so, I see no problem with not using a car to get places, because I'm not getting snowed on. cars should only be used for long distances.

I don't believe in getting rid of cars, but finding alternatives to the fuel in which cars use. I for one, could not survive without a car. My school is about 30 miles away, and the closest bus is 10 miles. Now that I can drive, I certainly take advantage of having a car to be able to get to school. I also believe in carpooling. Many students live in the same area, but all drive in different cars to school. Schools and businesses should encourage the use of carpooling by giving those carpooling students and employees specific benefits. I don't believe we can survive without transportation, but I do believe finding alternative energy sources to fuel our vehicles will certainly help make a difference.
